Pink Tutu Rome: #956 – Ciao Bella Roma!
Wednesday, 2nd October 2013
Hello my lovely Pink Tutu followers! I'm so excited to be sharing my Italian adventures with you all! Today, I'm in Rome, the Eternal City, wearing my very own custom pink tutu, of course!
It's been quite the journey getting here! A little bit of ballet, a little bit of train travel (which I always enjoy, as it allows me time to sketch out outfits in my notebook and catch up on all my favourite fashion blogs), and lots of anticipation – and here I am. The sun is shining, the gelato is calling, and Rome is, frankly, spectacular!
I travelled from my home in Derbyshire (where it was starting to get rather chilly!), right to the heart of Rome's vibrant Termini station. It was my first time travelling by train on the continent, and honestly? It was even more glamorous than I imagined! It felt like something out of a film! So many grand old carriages, bustling platform cafés serving strong coffee, and… let's just say my pink tutu made quite the splash. There were a few curious glances, some hesitant smiles, and then – oh the joy! A little girl with sparkling eyes and pigtails ran up to me, pointed at my tutu, and started giggling! She then proceeded to do a little twirl herself. What a charming little moment. It made me realize… the tutu power is truly international!
I’ve found myself a darling little apartment in the heart of the Trastevere district, where cobbled alleyways and lively piazzas abound. It's just a stone's throw from the Tiber River, so I can picture myself sketching while enjoying the sunset over the city.
My Pink Tutu Rome Plans
I’ve been eagerly researching Rome's hidden gems and planning some truly pink-tastic adventures for my time here. Naturally, it’s got to involve:
1. Ballet Ballet Ballet! Of course, my travels wouldn’t be complete without attending at least one (maybe two) ballet shows. I’ve already heard rumours of a fantastic production of Swan Lake at Teatro dell'Opera, and I’m digging into the Rome ballet scene to find hidden treasures. Maybe even an opportunity to dance in one of their gorgeous ballrooms? Oh, to dream!
2. Fashion Faves and Fantastic Finds
I'm so ready to delve into the Roman fashion scene! It’s an adventure just for me. There are so many boutiques waiting to be discovered, hidden in quirky alleys or charming piazzas, and vintage stores overflowing with chic, timeless styles. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for some one-of-a-kind accessories to complete my outfits, and maybe a vintage silk scarf for the evenings in Trastevere? I simply adore vintage accessories!
3. Sights of Beauty: A Feast For the Eyes
From the iconic Colosseum to the breathtaking Trevi Fountain (where I'll definitely toss in a coin for good luck and, well, a little sprinkle of fairy dust for the journey!), Rome is simply brimming with historical charm. The Roman Forum, the Pantheon... all those beautiful relics of a time gone by. Just being surrounded by so much history makes me feel like a princess exploring her royal kingdom!
4. Gelato and Pastry Perfection:
Okay, this is major part of the Roman experience for me! My motto is "if you’re in Rome, you eat all the pasta and gelato." And I plan to do exactly that! Every corner boasts charming cafés with their window displays overflowing with tantalising pastries, and it's simply impossible to resist! I'm a firm believer that the perfect gelato deserves the perfect outfit. So, you can bet I’ll be snapping photos in my favourite pink tutu, complete with a generous scoop of creamy gelato!
5. The Pink Tutu Effect: Sharing My Sparkle
What’s more important than just seeing amazing things? Spreading a bit of the pink tutu magic, of course! I’ve got a feeling the people of Rome will love this little sprinkle of whimsical wonder. I can just see it! Little children twirling as they skip by, men with smiles instead of furrowed brows, even tourists sharing a smile as I make my way down a bustling Roman street. Who knows? Maybe the whole city will be wearing tutus soon? A girl can dream, right?
This is just a glimpse into what promises to be an utterly magical Roman adventure. I’ll be documenting my adventures with lots of photos and stories here on the Pink Tutu Blog every Wednesday, so stay tuned for a sprinkle of pink tutu magic from the Eternal City!
See you soon!
