#PinkTutuRome Post #1010 – October 15th, 2014: Rome, Oh Rome!

Ciao bella!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another #PinkTutuRome post, straight from the heart of the Eternal City! This week, I'm swirling my way through the Roman sunshine, a whirlwind of pink tutu, laughter and... let's just say I might have gotten a little carried away with the shopping. (No judging, you understand!)

Now, I know some of you think my pink tutu obsession is a bit...out there. But, hear me out. This pink tutu isn't just a garment, it's a symbol, a way of life! A statement that says, "Life's too short for dull outfits," and "I embrace my inner child"! And here in Rome, amongst all this history, this vibrant energy, well, the pink tutu just makes perfect sense, right? It's a dash of colour in an already dazzling tapestry of culture!

So, this week, where have my little ballet shoes taken me? Let's get this post hopping!

Traipsing Through the Trastevere

Oh, Trastevere. You are a vision of cobblestone streets, terracotta pots overflowing with vibrant blooms, and cafes overflowing with laughter. It's the quintessential romantic Rome – narrow streets filled with laughter, musicians playing guitar on every corner, and families sitting together over steaming bowls of pasta. I popped into the cutest little boutique I've seen - "L'atelier di Luna" - a real gem of a place overflowing with bohemian fashion. Naturally, I had to snag myself a few goodies, including a fabulous scarf emblazoned with the Colosseum - perfect for adding a touch of Roman charm to my next ballet performance!

Train Travel – A Love Story

You see, dear readers, travelling by train is my absolute bliss. I love the chugging rhythm of the tracks, the scenic views that unfurl like a giant storybook, and the sense of adventure that fills the carriage with every station we pass. This time, my journey took me from the beautiful, charming Derbyshire, where I’m originally from, to this glorious Italian city, a whirlwind of change and wonder.

An Audience with The Pantheon

The Pantheon. This breathtaking structure. It simply left me speechless. It's been standing for over two thousand years, and every single inch of it screams grandeur. From the iconic dome that allows sunlight to flood the floor through a perfect oculus to the sheer size of the place, the Pantheon was like stepping into a different dimension, an echo of the past resonating in the present.

An Ode to Opera!

Italy and opera, two words synonymous with each other! And I simply couldn't leave without a night at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. The setting was a masterpiece, opulent and elegant, and the production of 'La Traviata' simply breathtaking. Watching those passionate performers pouring their hearts and souls onto the stage in a vibrant whirlwind of costumes, lights, and melodies - it left me absolutely enchanted.

Dancing through the Eternal City

The Romans really know how to throw a party, don't they? My exploration of the city started early this morning. It was so good to wake up to sunshine streaming through my hotel room window. I headed to the charming little pastry shop downstairs and had the most decadent croissant and cappuccino I've ever tasted. This morning's dance class with local ballet enthusiasts in Piazza Navona was just amazing, such graceful and talented dancers!

Fashion finds on the Via Condotti

Now, no visit to Rome would be complete without a stroll down Via Condotti, home to some of the world's most prestigious fashion houses. I'll admit it, I was a bit dazzled by the fabulous designer boutiques, especially by the iconic colours and the beautiful window displays, featuring models clad in luxurious creations. Even though my budget wouldn't stretch to that sort of couture, just seeing these exquisite clothes, fabrics, and designs inspired me to incorporate more sophisticated elegance into my own wardrobe - maybe a bit of a nod to the Italian fashionistas!

A Bite of Italian Bliss

From steaming bowls of pasta to heavenly gelato, Roman cuisine has a way of seducing the senses. I indulged in delicious, juicy pasta and fresh-baked pizzas - with enough flavour to send me into a blissful food coma, all topped off with gelato of every flavour under the sun. This really is the heart of deliciousness!

Pink Tutu, Pink Perfection

One thing I always carry with me while exploring the world - a big smile and of course, a touch of pink. And it turns out, Rome has an unerring instinct for capturing this pink magic in everything from the pink skies at dusk to the blush-toned terracotta rooftops, the beautiful bougainvillaea blossoms and the soft, rose-tinted walls that surround the Roman squares. I’m so happy I brought my signature pink tutu to Rome with me.

A Little Piece of Home, Far Away

The vibrant energy of Rome and the romantic Italian passion for everything, from art to food and life, is contagious! Yet, as I step back and look at this stunning cityscape, there's still a little part of me that longs for home – for those gentle Derbyshire hills and the peaceful atmosphere that’s always in my heart. I guess there's no place quite like home. But Rome has captured my heart in its own way, and I know I'll be back for another visit soon!

I'm always curious about your travels and experiences - Share yours with me, lovelies! Don't forget to check out www.pink-tutu.com and tell me what you think! See you next Wednesday, darlings.

With love and twirls,

Emma xxx
