Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2014-11-26 – A City That Makes You Twirl!
Hello my darling Tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, and this is post number 1016 on www.pink-tutu.com! Today I'm waltzing through the cobbled streets of Rome, Italy! And let me tell you, this city is practically made for a pink tutu! It's like a fairytale come to life, with its ancient ruins, beautiful churches, and gorgeous piazzas!
Now, you all know my mission is to make the world a more fabulous place, and a world where everyone wears a pink tutu is just that. Well, Rome, dear Rome, it seems to understand. There's a definite joie de vivre here, an unashamed sense of self-expression. Just the kind of attitude that gets me going. I might have even seen a woman walking a dachshund dressed in a mini tutu – now, that's what I call a stylish canine!
You wouldn't believe what a journey I had just to get here! It was a whirlwind of train travel that would have made a ballet dancer dizzy! The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Imagine vast, rolling fields and charming countryside towns all whisking past my window at 100 miles an hour! I might have even danced in my seat a few times. Who wouldn't?
I even found the most delightful cafe, hidden away in a backstreet. Imagine a cozy little courtyard with ivy climbing the walls and the scent of fresh coffee beans filling the air. It was the perfect spot to grab a latte and enjoy a slice of the most incredible pistachio cake I've ever tasted! (Note to self: Must find the recipe for that heavenly pastry).
After refuelling with delicious treats, it was time to see the sights. First stop? The Colosseum! This incredible arena, a testament to the Roman Empire's might, stood before me like a giant, whispering stories of gladiators, lions, and a thousand years gone by. It's quite humbling to stand in a place with so much history and wonder! I even had a moment (no, two, actually) where I envisioned myself performing there, all pink tutu and grace, amidst the roar of the crowds!
From there, I ventured to the Pantheon. What an amazing feat of architecture! This giant marble dome with its incredible open skylight made me feel as though I was dancing beneath the stars. I felt truly inspired. The intricate sculptures and frescoes in the Pantheon were works of art, each one telling a different story. This is the kind of inspiration I need to start crafting new routines! Maybe my next big piece will be inspired by the Pantheon's dome – I'll need to put some serious thought into that...
Later in the afternoon, the Roman sunset painted the sky with the most incredible colours. Pink, naturally, played a key role. What could be better for my wardrobe than a sky that mirrored my colour of choice?
I couldn't possibly visit Rome without taking a stroll down Via Condotti. Oh my, what an array of beautiful shops, and more than a few boutiques with some very exciting pink accessories! It felt as if this iconic street was designed specifically for someone like me. The window displays of these fashion houses are absolute art – if you've never been, I urge you to see them with your own eyes. You can almost smell the glamour!
Of course, no visit to Rome is complete without indulging in some exquisite Italian food. I discovered a quaint little trattoria tucked away in a quiet piazza. It felt like a scene out of a movie – the kind with warm-hearted families and endless plates of steaming pasta. And the spaghetti alla carbonara? Chef's kiss Let's just say it was divine. (I'm almost feeling another twirl coming on!).
Now, this evening, I'm catching the "Romeo and Juliet" at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, a show with so much history. As always, I've picked out a pink tutu that fits perfectly with this dramatic tale, all flowy and light, as befitting my romantic, fun-loving personality. It's been years since I saw this show. There's just so much tragedy and beauty packed into this classic, and, well, I think the energy here might just lead to a truly spectacular dance performance!
This trip to Rome is full of exciting new energy for me. It’s clear the city's creative energy has been infused in me; maybe a Roman-inspired performance at Derbyshire next year? Just think – “Romeo and Juliet” meets the Colosseum!
Well, I’d love to keep chatting, but I hear the overture starting! Remember to look for next week's blog, coming your way every Wednesday on www.pink-tutu.com!
Until then, don't be shy, twirl away, and don't forget – pink tutus for everyone!
Love and twirls, Emma x
