Hey darlings!
It's Emma here, your pink-tutu-clad travel companion, and this week, we're venturing to the Eternal City – Rome! 💋 After a rather whirlwind few weeks twirling my way through Europe by train (oh, how I love those long journeys!), I landed in Rome just in time for… an absolutely gorgeous sunset! 🌅
This time around, my adventures were funded by my lovely performances with the National Ballet Theatre in… Derbyshire! Yes, my home county's theatre circuit never disappoints, and I have to admit, my fellow Derbyshire dancers gave a simply smashing show – even with a few too many dodgy stage entrances (oh dear, I know how those go!), it was truly spectacular!
Now, onto Rome! I'm writing this with a very very full stomach, having just devoured a heavenly bowl of pasta, which by the way, was even more divine than that magnifique truffle pizza I enjoyed at La Taverna yesterday – talk about living life on the edge! 😋
For those who missed the last post, this week I'm sharing some of my favourite pink discoveries in the Italian capital. I can’t even begin to describe the incredible shopping - all those shops and markets brimming with exquisite designer accessories and beautiful silk fabrics. A girl could literally shop until she drops. ✨
Rome is positively bursting with colour and excitement. From the historical grandeur of the Colosseum to the charming alleyways overflowing with charming cafes and gelaterias, every corner of the city feels alive with artistry and romance. Speaking of romance, you know, a certain Italian opera singer was even spotted near the Trevi Fountain! And rumour has it, his very beautiful ballerina wife was just behind him, her tulle skirt floating ever so slightly, making for a magical tableau that looked like something out of a fairytale! Wouldn't it be glorious to waltz beneath those Tuscan skies with a pink tutu of course, with my beloved (Italian opera singers – get in touch!) 💖
Fashion Finds in RomeSo let’s talk fashion! The first thing that caught my eye was the plethora of deliciously vibrant silks and velvets. They are just so lush and luxurious, especially the shades of pink – my absolute favourite! I had to scoop up a couple of shimmering fuchsia scarves – one for me, and one for a certain Italian opera singer (I'm hoping that gesture seals the deal!). 😉
This trip, my pink tutu game has gone to a whole new level! While exploring the very trendy streets, I stumbled across the cutest pink tutu shop hidden inside a quiet courtyard – my ballet-loving heart went pitter-patter. You should see it! Imagine, a shop full of sparkly tutus, everything from delicate cotton ones perfect for daily wear to some outrageously fluffy ballgown-esque ones that could grace any red carpet – yes! Even better, the lady behind the shop is the loveliest woman, she is creating a whole collection just for my pink tutu loving audience, I will share more in my next blog post. I cannot wait.
Oh, and of course, you know how I love my ballet shows! Last night, we saw the most beautiful interpretation of Swan Lake at the Opera House. Talk about elegance! Even with my pink tutu peeking out from beneath my dress, the audience was surprisingly understanding and, even gave me some nods of approval, or at least that's how I perceived it – anyway I didn’t let it affect my graceful posture one bit! 😄
I think what I love the most about Rome is the sense of history, especially within its charming and beautiful old-town piazzas and markets. It’s like walking through time, imagining what the streets would have been like centuries ago – but let's be honest, pink tutus are an excellent addition to any era, wouldn’t you agree? 😉
The local vendors were so lovely - everyone with a story to tell and an intriguing new trinket to tempt you. I’m lucky to have acquired the most stunning handmade silk pouch with delicate pink embroidery, and a charming silver locket. I plan to fill it with trinkets and memories of this wondrous city. I might just wear it to that Italian opera singer's next performance (yes, I’m just a tad obsessed right now!). ✨
I also indulged in a most divine pastry in the heart of Rome, a pastry so exquisitely pink, it almost seemed a crime to consume it! But, trust me, my darlings, you have to experience the delightful pleasure of a good pastry! 😉 Speaking of good, my darling cousin Isabella who lives in the region joined us for lunch today at a local trattoria – imagine an Italian restaurant nestled within a little square of sun-drenched terracotta and fragrant basil, it really couldn't have been more beautiful and romantic, and of course the lunch was scrumptious. 🇮🇹
Rome truly embodies all the romantic elegance of Italian fashion. I've seen some of the most breathtaking outfits – shimmering, silky dresses, sharp tailored suits and beautiful wide-brimmed hats adorned with intricate floral details. Of course, I’m always looking for a fabulous new pink to incorporate into my outfits – a little something to complete a Pink Tutu Rome look! ✨
Oh, how I wish you were all here to share this incredible journey! Imagine strolling along the cobblestone streets of the Trastevere district with me, relishing the intoxicating aromas of freshly baked bread, vibrant gelato flavours and freshly brewed coffee.
The evenings here are like stepping into a fairytale. The soft orange hues of the sunset paint the city with magical shadows as the air fills with the sounds of street musicians. It truly is magical. ✨
And of course, my ballet-loving heart needs a little bit of magic every now and then. So next week, we’ll be venturing to Florence – another enchanting city brimming with art, culture, and oh yes… beautiful tutus!
So, stay tuned for my Florence post next week, where I'm sure to find all sorts of exciting adventures for my little pink tutu and I. Until then, I’m off to take in the vibrant Roman energy, maybe find myself a new pink scarf or two, and enjoy another glorious meal with some beautiful Italian food. 💋 Ciao bella!
