Pink Tutu Rome: #1024 - Ciao Bella!
Well hello there darlings, it’s your favourite ballerina blogger Emma here, bringing you all the fabulousness from Rome! I know, I know, another city? But Rome has been calling for years and honestly, with all the fashion, the food, and the breathtaking architecture, it’s simply irresistible.
How’d I get here? As always, the trusty train! I love nothing more than zipping through the countryside, soaking in the changing scenery. The journey to Italy felt like a fairytale with those beautiful, sun-drenched hills, olive groves, and ancient ruins peeking out from the distance.
But enough about the journey, let's get down to the heart of what you're really here for - Pink Tutu in Rome!
My first impressions? The colour, the energy, the sheer drama of it all! Everywhere you look, there's history oozing out of every cobblestone, and those ancient fountains are just mesmerising! I have to admit, a slight case of culture shock did hit me. From the hustle and bustle of the Piazza Navona, with street performers, artists, and tourists mingling, to the peaceful serenity of the Vatican, I haven’t felt such an overwhelming mix of sights and sounds since that time I went to London’s theatreland after the Royal Ballet opened Swan Lake!
Rome & My Pink Tutu: Now, before you say "pink tutus don’t fit in with ancient Roman ruins!" think again. Rome is just crying out for a dose of colour! Think of the amazing photo opportunities. I already have a killer Instagram pic with me posing on the Trevi Fountain, twirling in my sparkly pink tutu with a handful of coins for good luck.
Shopping: Of course, a Pink Tutu blogger simply has to check out the shopping! Rome is a dream come true, bursting with the most amazing vintage boutiques, leather shops, and designer stores, perfect for finding unique and fabulous items to complete my ballerina wardrobe. I managed to find some stunning tulle that I can't wait to turn into a new pink tutu.
Performances: But this trip isn’t all about tutus and shopping, darlings. My biggest inspiration in Rome so far? The opera. On Tuesday evening (I know, I arrived early on Monday!), I went to see "La Traviata" at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Oh, the drama! The emotion! The costumes! The passion! The sheer talent of these singers! I was mesmerised and my inner ballerina was positively leaping!
Food: We can’t talk about Rome without talking food! Every meal has been an explosion of flavour – the pasta, the pizza, the fresh mozzarella, the delicious gelato. I'm going to have to book a second trip just for the food! (I've already ordered one of those pretty Italian shopping bags to fill up with all the goodies from the local market!)
Must Sees in Rome (so far!):
- Colosseum: Okay, so, it's big. It's grand. It's incredibly moving. And honestly, the photo I got of my pink tutu against the Colosseum is my new Instagram profile picture!
- Trevi Fountain: A definite must-do, with that iconic architecture and those refreshing sprays of water. It is almost impossible to find a photo of this iconic fountain where you don't see some lucky coin wishing upon its waves, but luckily the sheer volume of visitors means you don’t need to be on your own to take a shot! And besides, what's more iconic than a pink tutu with the Trevi Fountain in the background!
- Spanish Steps: This is more than just a set of steps, it's a real fashion hub, so of course, a Pink Tutu blogger has to pose here! I even spotted a cute Italian street performer singing a ballad that made my heart flutter like a bird taking flight.
Day-Trip to Florence: On Friday, I'm taking a day-trip to Florence! The birthplace of the Renaissance. I can't wait to explore the Uffizi Gallery and soak up all the art and architecture that this magical city has to offer!
What are my favourite things about Italy so far? Well, obviously the Italian food! (especially those pizzas! The Italian pasta!) The people, they’re so welcoming, so stylish, so warm! The romance in the air! It feels like every corner is filled with romance! And oh my goodness, that gelato. (Maybe just one more scoop... for the blog!)
But here's what's truly wonderful about travelling as a Pink Tutu blogger: It's a beautiful way to explore the world! With each new destination, I meet the most wonderful, diverse, and open-minded people. Everyone loves a pink tutu!
Stay tuned for next week's Pink Tutu Rome blog, darlings! There's so much more to see and experience, and I can't wait to share it all with you.
