Pink Tutu Rome: #1091 - A Roman Holiday in Pink
Ciao bella! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome blog post! This week, I'm bringing you all the glorious pink, frilly, and fabulous from my whirlwind trip to Rome.
Now, you may be thinking, “Emma, Rome, ballet – how does that even work?” Well, darlings, you see, it's all about embracing the unexpected. The Italian capital is brimming with history, culture, and, yes, even ballet!
Let’s rewind a little, shall we? My trip started with a fab journey on a glorious Eurostar from my home in Derbyshire, England, all the way to Paris, which of course I was dressed head-to-toe in pink. I can’t stand those stuffy train carriages so I always make a bit of a statement – after all, why be dreary when you can be pink, right?!
In Paris, I indulged in some of that classic Parisian charm. A trip to the famous Opera Garnier is a must-do, even if you only peek at the stunning architecture. Then, I headed over to the Musée Rodin, a haven of incredible sculpture, and, believe it or not, an unexpected place for some truly sparkly outfit inspiration! Who knew?
Then it was onto Rome! I always find a thrill in arriving in a new city by train. I love watching the scenery rush past, the anticipation of adventure mounting with each passing mile. I had my eyes on a particular train that day, a vintage Italian beauty – think faded crimson and polished brass. I popped on a new vintage pink beret for the occasion – all about blending in and making a statement simultaneously, darling!
Upon arriving at Termini Station, the hustle and bustle was already drawing me in. My first destination: The Hotel de Russie – an absolute stunner, oozing that glamorous Italian romance that we all dream of!
Speaking of romance, the first evening in Rome is all about La Dolce Vita – a chance to immerse oneself in the city's charming charm. I found myself swept away by the allure of a cozy trattoria down a narrow alleyway. The aroma of garlic and basil hung heavy in the air as we feasted on fresh pasta and heavenly wine – simple but delicious. And the service? A symphony of Italian hospitality.
But the real magic started to unfold the next morning. As the golden sunlight streamed through the hotel window, I slipped on a sparkling pink tutu – Rome called for an extra dose of glamour! It’s all about embracing the ballerina spirit, darling! Why have an ordinary day in a simple skirt when you can pirouette through the cobbled streets in a pink tutu, right?
The Colosseum – what a sight to behold! Even though it was a tourist haven, it was simply breathtaking to see such a monument to history. It felt like walking through time, and with the vibrant pink tutu, I must have stood out! Imagine the Romans looking up from their sandals – “Whoa, where does this one get her style from?” - lol!
The Trevi Fountain – every girl needs a photo there in a perfect pink outfit, so I took a ton of them with my ballet flats. The water cascading, the marble, the shimmering pink of the tutu reflecting off the sunlight – oh darling, I swear I felt like a real-life Roman goddess! And as I tossed a coin into the fountain for luck, I couldn’t help but feel the enchantment of the city and dream about returning.
That evening was an exploration of the city's bustling culinary scene – the pasta is out of this world, as are the charming eateries on each cobblestone street.
My days in Rome were filled with delightful wanderings – through the Vatican, past the Pantheon, into the enchanting heart of the city. The fashion was a beautiful mix of sleek Italian style with vintage touches, which is absolutely my aesthetic – and of course my pink tutu popped out as a striking element amidst it all!
And speaking of style, what would a trip to Rome be without a trip to the fabulous boutiques, darlings?! There is nothing quite like the thrill of exploring stylish boutiques, discovering treasures tucked away amidst cobblestone streets and the constant whispers of history.
In one particular hidden boutique I fell for a vibrant fuchsia dress – the perfect addition to my Rome wardrobe! I also discovered the most exquisite silk scarf with an intricate floral motif - the sort of scarf that adds an element of Italian charm to any ensemble. This shopping expedition, of course, included a detour to a tea room. A lovely break to recharge from all the sightseeing – and my beloved tutu remained a constant companion!
But the real gem was the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma - Rome's breathtaking opera house! There was nothing like the majestic interior and the atmosphere, so opulent! I had an unbelievable experience – ballet performances that took my breath away! And when the final curtain fell, I took my tutu to the Teatro's gardens and danced beneath the moonlight – it truly felt like something out of a dream! It made the whole trip so worth it. It is the very reason I travel!
There's something truly special about a city like Rome. The ancient architecture whispers stories of emperors and artists, while the modern pulse beats with the vibrancy of a city that knows how to celebrate life. Rome's heart thumps to the rhythm of romance, and every street corner sings of passion.
Rome taught me that it’s important to dance through life, even when exploring a city like Rome with its rich and fascinating past. I realised, through a touch of pink tulle, the history of Rome truly dances beneath your feet! It's an adventure of both fashion and ballet! So keep on twirling through your week with pink! And until next Wednesday, ciao bella!
With a final pirouette and a wave of my tutu,
Emma,
The Pink Tutu Ballerina.
