Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2016-06-01 - Exploring the Eternal City!
Hello my darlings, and welcome to post number 1095 of the Pink Tutu blog! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a little bit of travel, and oh my, have you got a treat in store for you this week! I'm currently writing to you from Rome, Italy, a place I've dreamt of visiting ever since I was a little girl watching "Roman Holiday" on repeat. The Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Vatican City... It's all simply magical!
And let me tell you, Rome hasn't disappointed. The city is buzzing with energy, with vibrant streets, friendly locals, and some of the most delicious food I've ever had (seriously, I haven't stopped eating pasta since I arrived).
Now, let's talk about the most exciting thing - the fashion! Oh my, you guys. Italian fashion is a whole different beast! The chic silhouettes, the vibrant colours (so much pink!), the amazing accessories - I feel like I've walked straight out of a fairytale!
Getting to Rome in style
This trip was a bit different from my usual escapades. I managed to snag some incredible performances in Verona and Venice over the last couple of weeks, which gave me just enough funds for a trip to Italy's capital. I, of course, took the train, arriving at Roma Termini, a bustling railway hub teeming with life. Did I mention that a certain Valentino flagship store just so happens to be right outside the station? Well, let's just say I left with a new pink dress and matching ballet flats!
The first stop, the Spanish Steps
Right after checking into my charming hotel (all pink floral patterns, of course), I made a beeline for the iconic Spanish Steps. There was such an incredible buzz around me. Families were enjoying the sunshine, artists were sketching, and I even spotted a street performer dressed in a... well, you guessed it... pink tutu! We exchanged smiles, of course, and she gave me a thumbs-up as I strolled past, a little bit of Derbyshire pink tutu solidarity in the heart of Rome!
The Colosseum and an evening of ballet magic
After an afternoon spent soaking up the sights and indulging in some mouthwatering pasta carbonara, I headed for the Colosseum. Seeing it in person, it was just as grand and imposing as it is in the movies! You could practically hear the roars of the ancient Roman gladiators!
That evening, my day of cultural indulgence continued with a ballet performance at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. It was exquisite. The production was based on one of my favourite ballets, La Bayadere, and I must say the company was incredible! Seeing such world-class ballet in a stunning setting, oh it was truly magical.
Tutu and take a peek!
This week's post has just skimmed the surface of all the wonderful things that Rome has to offer. Next week, I'll be taking you all to the Trevi Fountain, showing you my favourite fashion boutiques and, of course, exploring the fascinating history of the Eternal City!
Remember, my darlings, even if you don't have a pink tutu at hand, a pink ribbon, or maybe a tiny pink flower in your hair will suffice! Don't be afraid to express yourself. Let your inner ballerina shine and let's spread pink joy across the globe.
Ciao for now,
Emma xoxo
