Pink Tutu Rome - Post #1106: Ciao Bella! Adventures in the Eternal City

Wednesday 17th August 2016

Ciao darlings! It's your favourite tutu-clad traveller, Emma, reporting live from the heart of Rome. Oh, it's divine here! Think cobbled streets, sun-drenched piazzas, gelato that melts in your mouth and that classic Italian air of effortless style.

This week I'm trading in my usual Derbyshire drizzle for a Roman summer, and trust me, I'm living my absolute best life. The Pink Tutu mission to inspire the world with a splash of pink, one tulle-tastic tutu at a time, just got a whole lot more exciting!

Now, you might be wondering how this ballet-loving lass from England finds herself in such a beautiful city, right? Well, let's just say this gal can spin more than just pirouettes! My career involves gracefully twirling across the stage, bringing the magic of ballet to life with a dose of pink, of course. The funds earned from these performances fuel my travels. And let me tell you, this little pink tutu can cover a lot of ground - from the Royal Albert Hall to the stunning Colosseum. I believe that adventures, much like life itself, should be taken one dazzling tutu-clad step at a time!

So, without further ado, let's dive into my Pink Tutu Rome Diaries.

First Stop: A Ballet Extravaganza!

Arriving in Rome by train was a treat, such a lovely change from those pesky M6 toll queues! After settling into my gorgeous boutique hotel (seriously, they even had a balcony overlooking the charming courtyard where I performed a little twirl to celebrate!), I got ready for the highlight of the week: The Rome Ballet Festival.

I was in for a real treat tonight, with an evening of modern choreography. The theatre was grand and filled with a sophisticated atmosphere. As the orchestra played the opening notes, I felt the energy building. It's that electrifying feeling, you know, that makes you feel like you're part of something special.

Now, my darlings, I don't want to give away too much of the magic, but the performance was a feast for the senses! It was full of passion, athleticism, and pure beauty. The dancers' movements flowed seamlessly. They brought the stories to life through every leap, pirouette and graceful glide. And you betcha, I was already plotting how I'd bring some of the inspired choreography to my own classes back home!

A Taste of La Dolce Vita:

Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without some la dolce vita (which basically translates to “the sweet life”) - think delicious food, chic shops, and breathtaking scenery. And the best part? This city's buzzing with fashion!

My first day was filled with a deliciously indulgent lunch in a cosy Italian trattoria. I enjoyed pasta al pesto, a simple but divine dish, accompanied by a glass of Italy’s best white wine, Pinot Grigio.

Then came the moment I'd been eagerly anticipating - shopping! The designer boutiques along Via Condotti had me swooning! It's not just high fashion though, the streets of Rome offer a treasure trove of charming independent shops bursting with Italian crafts and vintage treasures. And the colours! The shades of red and gold are truly inspired.

Rome has that certain flair where the everyday is an opportunity to look fabulous. I saw so many ladies in gorgeous flowy dresses and statement sunglasses - definitely getting me into that holiday mood!

Taking a Stroll Through History:

My afternoon adventure involved exploring the colossal beauty of the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill. I got my culture fix walking amidst the ruins, imagine how breathtaking this area must have been during the ancient Roman Empire. The sheer magnitude of it was jaw-dropping - a definite bucket-list moment! I even caught a glimpse of the Colosseum from afar, which is simply a monument to the human capacity to create incredible things.

I found myself reflecting on the importance of history and culture. It reminds us that the past guides us into the present, and helps to shape the future.

As I continued my journey through the bustling streets, the warmth of the Roman sunset enveloped the city. Every corner offered a different shade of beauty: from the Golden hues of the buildings, to the warm smiles of the local vendors selling freshly picked strawberries.

I took a moment to just soak in the atmosphere. Rome has this amazing sense of history woven into its very soul.

Pink Tutu on the Piazza

With the sun descending, it was time for my evening dance. This city is such a treat for tutus, with so many beautiful piazzas that practically beg to be twirled upon! I found the perfect spot - an area brimming with vibrant energy and an air of joyful abandon.

The music playing on nearby terraces added to the enchantment. I graced the Piazza with a few simple but graceful steps - my signature pirouettes and slight twirls, making sure to capture it all with my phone (who wouldn’t want a few snaps with this pink wonder in a magical setting?). I felt like I was dancing with the spirit of Rome - its history, its culture, its undying passion. It's not just a dance, it's a lifestyle.

The evening came to an end, with the promise of new adventures waiting to unfold in the days ahead. I'll be back on Wednesday, darlings, with another update on my Pink Tutu adventures in this incredible city. Until then, go out there and embrace your own la dolce vita with a sprinkle of pink magic.

P.S. Don’t forget, it’s not just a tutu - it’s an attitude. Let’s make the world a pink-tastic place one twirl at a time!
