Pink Tutu Rome: Post #1105 - Roman Holiday in Pink!

Buongiorno, darling readers!

It's Emma here, your pink-tutu-wearing travel buddy, beaming at you from the heart of Rome! It’s Wednesday, which means it's time for our weekly Pink Tutu Rome adventure! Buckle up, because today's post is a real whopper, bursting with sunshine, gelato, and all things beautiful and pink (because, well, what else would you expect from yours truly?).

Now, I know some of you might be thinking, "Emma, darling, why the trip to Rome? Why now?" And you know what? You're absolutely right to ask! Rome has been on my bucket list for years, but life as a professional ballerina is, let's just say, slightly hectic. I juggle classes, rehearsals, performances, and (let's be honest) the occasional mad dash through London on my way to a fitting. So, a little break was absolutely necessary, even if it did mean travelling without my beloved pink tutus!

But don't you worry, my pink-loving darlings. My trusty suitcase is packed full of colour and flair! I've brought some fabulously vibrant pieces with me, from a sequined pink jacket (oh, darling, it's divine) to my trusty vintage, petal-pink suitcase. Yes, darling, I do everything in pink, even travel!

But enough about my outfit (although, it is an essential part of the whole Pink Tutu experience, isn’t it?). I simply had to travel by train this time, though! I just adore the thrill of leaving everything behind, watching the scenery rush past as I settle into the comfortable carriage. It’s pure magic! There’s something so elegant and refined about taking a train journey. Imagine the stories those carriage windows could tell! It’s almost like you're a part of some beautiful period drama…except without the terribly dreary romance. whispers Oh, who am I kidding? Give me a handsome conductor any day!

Anyway, back to my Roman adventures! You all know I love a bit of historical sightseeing and I’m happy to report that Rome absolutely delivers! Every corner is crammed with history: from the Colosseum, which truly feels like stepping into a gladiatorial battle, to the Pantheon, where you just feel the weight of all that ancient wonder around you.

Fashion Inspiration: A Roman Touch

Now, let's talk fashion! One thing that absolutely stunned me was the beautiful fashion in Rome! As a huge ballet fan, I am constantly inspired by elegance and grace and this city just has it in spades! I fell in love with all the chic, timeless looks. Think billowing linen dresses in soft colours, perfect for walking around the ancient ruins, paired with effortlessly elegant sandals and maybe a little vintage handbag with a touch of gold… absolutely perfect for a Pink Tutu Roman Holiday.

Speaking of shoes, the leather footwear is divine! It makes you feel as though you've stepped back in time. The colour palette is truly exquisite - muted hues of terracotta, dusky rose, deep red. It feels almost romantic and, to be honest, very, very Pink Tutu!

I’ve already snagged some beautiful pieces from my favourite boutiques, which you can expect to see in next week's blog post, as I do my very best to bring a touch of Roman flair to your very own wardrobe. And don't even get me started on the Italian leather shoes! Every time I hear the gentle click of my new pair on the cobbles, my heart leaps.

Let's Talk Ballet…

It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu trip without a touch of the beautiful ballet! Now, the Romans aren’t all that fussed on ballet (shocking, I know! – just like those crazy Derbyshire folks), so I did some digging. I ended up finding a lovely ballet class – complete with breathtaking views of the city, and even a cute, fluffy Pomeranian that keeps trying to steal my pink hair ribbon!

This is not only a great way to keep my muscles warm after a morning of exploring, but also to feel connected to a community, no matter where I am in the world. Ballet truly is an international language. I may not be fluent in Italian, but as I stretched out my leg in that picturesque studio, surrounded by the passion of fellow dancers, I felt at home.

Oh, and of course, we can’t forget the legendary Opera house, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. My dearest friend Lucy is a seasoned opera fanatic (though she claims I "accidentally" taught her to love ballet, just like you lovely lot!), and so naturally we had to visit this magnificent, opulent jewel. Just looking at the gilded exterior is like being transported back in time to another era – complete with the perfect backdrop of vintage, chic and beautiful, timeless beauty that oozes class and tradition.

You can almost hear the melodies floating from those ornate balconies, with their grand architecture, that remind you of the romantic story that is Rome! It's quite the spectacle!

A Feast for the Senses

And who could forget the food? Darling, it's all I've been dreaming of! Each day, I wander through the vibrant, fragrant markets, exploring the colours and scents of fresh fruit and vegetables, sampling the incredible local cheeses and, of course, indulging in a scoop of the most delightful gelato! It's all simply perfetto.

I’m making sure I enjoy a real Italian feast, from traditional pasta to fresh seafood and mouthwatering pizzas. It's hard to imagine anything more delightful!

Travel Tips:

Let me give you some helpful Pink Tutu tips for your very own Roman adventures. My absolute musts:

  1. Be prepared! Rome is a beautiful, historical city. Wear comfortable shoes! Honestly, darling, your feet will thank you! I brought along some trusty ballerina pumps that slip into my handbag easily and go with everything – you simply can’t go wrong with a touch of pink. And be sure to pack a decent water bottle because the heat is no joke!

  2. Get lost…on purpose. Forget the tourist maps and take a detour down a quiet alleyway. This is how you truly discover Rome, where you stumble upon charming shops and cafes that you wouldn't find in any guidebook.

  3. Embrace the sunshine… and wear a hat. The Romans have a lovely laid-back lifestyle, perfect for soaking up the rays. And don't forget the most important part – that’s a good, old-fashioned Pink Tutu, naturally!

See you next week…

Well, darling, this little Pink Tutu explorer has a gelato date scheduled. This city just calls to you!

Until next week’s post, stay beautiful and pink!

Love,

Emma x
