Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! #1108
Wednesday 31st August 2016
Ciao from Rome, darlings! The Eternal City has captured my heart (and my camera) with its dazzling beauty and delicious charm. This week, the pink tutu journey led me here, by train, of course - no plane travel for this princess! And let me tell you, even the train journey was a symphony of beauty – fields of sunflowers swaying to the rhythm of the wheels, quaint little towns whizzing past, and, my personal favourite, the cheeky Italian lads flirting with my pink tutu from the carriage window!
I must confess, packing for Rome was an absolute delight. The sunshine called for a parade of breezy sundresses, my favourite lace cardigan for the evenings (it's never quite as warm as you think in Europe, you know), and, of course, several pink tutus! My Roman wardrobe is designed to create the perfect mix of elegance and playfulness, and let me tell you, with my pink tutus in the mix, there’s no missing this ballerina!
Arriving in Rome felt like stepping back in time, with cobbled streets winding through historic squares and fountains bubbling with life. I spent my first evening wandering through the heart of the city, letting the sights and smells fill me with excitement. Oh, and I treated myself to the most delectable gelato at a charming little shop - I simply can't resist a pistachio flavour, can you?
My Roman Ballet Debut: "Romeo & Juliet" at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma
Let’s talk about the highlight of this trip! Yes, darlings, you guessed it: I had the honour of witnessing a performance of Romeo and Juliet at the beautiful Teatro dell'Opera di Roma! The costumes, the music, the dancers! It was a pure masterpiece. It's no wonder Italy is so synonymous with the arts. Every nuance, every graceful leap, every whispered sigh resonated with my ballet heart. It felt as though I'd travelled back to the heart of classical ballet itself.
Speaking of costumes, let’s not forget my pink tutu! Naturally, I felt a bit bolder in my choice for Rome and opted for a fuchsia tutu with shimmering tulle. You can imagine the reactions – I certainly drew some appreciative glances! One gentleman even bowed deeply, his hand on his chest, as if I were royalty herself. Now that’s the kind of attention I adore! I felt like a true princess from a fairy tale.
A Ballerina's Feast in Trastevere
Food. Fashion. Culture. This week in Rome is a decadent delight, all woven into the most delightful tapestry of experiences!
After my theatrical performance, my dear friend Lucia – a fellow pink tutu aficionado - joined me for a fabulous dinner in Trastevere, Rome’s charming, artistic neighbourhood. It’s overflowing with quirky art, charming shops and, of course, the most delicious restaurants.
Lucia, a native Roman, steered me through the labyrinth of backstreets, our laughter echoing between the cobblestone walls. We indulged in mouth-watering dishes, all punctuated by sipping delicious wine in a piazza bustling with music and life. For someone like me, it's about as perfect an evening as it gets!
My Favourite Pink Tutu Shopping Finds
Naturally, a ballerina can't resist a little retail therapy. Rome is a haven for fashionistas, with its boutique shops and designer labels, but even a discerning pink tutu devotee like myself can’t resist the charm of the traditional Italian markets. This week, my heart skipped a beat when I found the most exquisite silk scarves at Campo de' Fiori market - vibrant colors, luxurious textures and playful patterns – perfect for a bit of dramatic flair around the neck. I snapped them all up for myself!
I also discovered an artisan workshop in the charming Trastevere, brimming with hand-stitched leather handbags. My favourite, a delicate little bag in pastel pink – perfect for a touch of whimsical elegance. I had to get it, of course!
Embracing the Roman Spirit
And my Roman adventure continues. My upcoming days are jam-packed with sights to see, stories to be told, and adventures to have! Tomorrow, a leisurely tour through the ancient Roman Forum, with a delicious pasta lunch afterwards (it's a life I lead, you know!).
On Thursday, I’ll be joining a street theatre performance in the vibrant Piazza Navona – my pink tutu is always up for a bit of drama, isn't it?
And to finish my Roman adventure, I have planned a visit to the Galleria Borghese to gaze at masterpieces by Caravaggio and Bernini. After all, there’s nothing quite like blending fashion with a little bit of history.
Stay tuned, darlings! There's so much more to share - photos of fabulous outfits, a glimpse into the breathtaking Colosseum, and my attempt at making a real Italian espresso. Rome is all about savouring each moment, embracing each delicious morsel of this beautiful city, and of course, spreading my pink tutu love all along the way!
Remember, darlings: wear your pink tutus, dream big, and never stop exploring!
