Pink Tutu Rome: Post 1109 – Ciao Bella, Roma!

Wednesday 2016-09-07

Ciao bella!

Well, here I am, in the Eternal City itself – Rome, Italy!

Let me tell you, getting here by train was half the adventure. I love a good train journey. You really get a feel for the countryside, especially in Europe. This one was particularly scenic, weaving through lush vineyards and sleepy towns. Plus, there's something so glamorous about arriving in a foreign city by train – think Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday, all chic and carefree. And let's not forget, the freedom of hopping off the train, no queues at the airport, just the open air and the scent of possibility…

But the real highlight of the day was stepping out into Rome and getting my first glimpse of the Colosseum. My heart actually skipped a beat. I mean, it's just so unbelievably big, so impressive, it's practically breathtaking. It's one of those landmarks you've seen so many times in pictures and movies, and to finally be standing before it was just incredible.

And then, of course, there was the food! I’m talking real Italian food. Honestly, the pizza was like nothing I’ve ever tasted – thin, crispy base, just the right amount of cheese and toppings, divine! I could just about smell the oregano, basil, and garlic before I even tasted it! I think I could eat this every single day and be quite happy with my life. And the pasta? Oh my goodness! So fresh, so flavourful… it just melted in my mouth. Honestly, I'm already planning my next trip back just for the food!

Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without a spot of shopping. And, let me tell you, there is a lot to tempt a tutu-loving girl! So much leather, so much silk, so much lace! I could have easily lost a week in those amazing shops – I’m actually going to have to come back for a dedicated shopping trip!

This evening, I’m going to see an opera – La Bohème, one of my favourites! I'm quite excited as I love live music and theater, so much so, I often get backstage afterwards and meet the performers! Maybe, if I’m brave, I'll even strike up a conversation in my limited Italian… Maybe "Ciao Bella" with a smile and a cheeky twirl? Why not?! It’s certainly the Italian way to live, right?!

This is all such a whirlwind and a dream come true. Who would have thought that a little Derbyshire girl with a love for ballet and a pink tutu could end up dancing around Rome?!

Stay tuned for more pink tutu adventures next Wednesday!

A Quick Rundown:

  • Day: Wednesday 7th September, 2016
  • Location: Rome, Italy
  • Adventures: Exploring the Colosseum, indulging in delicious Italian food, getting lost in the shopping streets, attending La Bohème at the opera
  • Fashion: Pink tutu, obviously! But today it's been paired with a flowy white dress, and a bright pink floral headband. I'm feeling a bit boho-chic, very Roman Holiday, very chic, very…me!

Coming Up:

Next week I’ll be posting about my opera experience! Keep an eye out for tips for travelling by train, Italian fashion and all the best spots for shopping and Italian delights in Rome!

Until next week, stay pink and fabulous!

Love, Emma xx
