Pink Tutu Rome: Post #1111 - Ciao Bella!

Wednesday 2016-09-21

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, and I'm absolutely bursting with excitement to be back with another post! This week, it's all about Rome – the Eternal City, the City of Seven Hills, the place where ancient history whispers through the cobbled streets and gelato dreams come true!

And how did I get here, you ask? Why, by train of course! A glorious train journey across the Alps, accompanied by a cheeky Aperol spritz and the rhythmic clickety-clack of the wheels against the tracks. The countryside whizzed by in a blur of greens and golds, and by the time we reached the Italian border, I was positively giddy with anticipation.

Now, let's talk about this city! I can already tell, it’s going to be a whirl of pastel-coloured piazzas, ancient ruins, and, of course, a whole lot of shopping. (Who am I kidding? That’s a given anywhere I go!). I can practically smell the delicious scent of freshly baked bread and the rich, creamy aroma of freshly churned gelato… Don’t even get me started on the shoes! 👠

Oh, before I forget! It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu adventure without a little ballet, would it? I did my research and found out that on Wednesday night, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma is hosting a special performance of “La Bayadère”, and you know I couldn't miss that! I’m just about ready to trade my sparkly tutu for a formal gown (although I’m not ruling out a pink tulle overskirt – we'll see how daring I feel!), and I’ve got a beautiful bouquet of fresh roses ready to crown the occasion. I can already imagine the intricate costumes, the swirling stage sets, and the passion of the performers... Honestly, I just get a little flutter in my tummy every time I see a ballet, it's so beautiful!

Day 1 – Pantheon & The Flavors of Rome

Today, I decided to soak in the history. The first stop on my itinerary? The Pantheon – oh, how I love this place! Its scale, the way the light pours through the oculus, the story etched into every stone… it's a breathtaking sight! And of course, a must-have photo opp with my pink tutu flowing like a flamenco dancer! My followers on Insta will be living for it!

After taking it all in, it was time for the perfect Roman lunch - freshly made pasta with the most glorious tomato sauce and a cheeky glass of chilled white wine. I devoured it in a quaint trattoria near the Trevi Fountain. Did I mention the Trevi Fountain? I haven't even thrown a coin in yet, but I already know I'll be back again to make my wish, hopefully, a grand adventure on a stage in a gorgeous ballet!

The day ended with a delectable gelato stop near the Colosseum - chocolate and hazelnut - oh my! A must for any Rome explorer, wouldn't you agree?

Day 2 – Fashion Finds & Flamenco Fusion

I know I’m a ballerina first and foremost, but there’s a little shopaholic within me that needs to be nurtured! So today was dedicated to Rome’s fashion scene, and boy, oh boy!

I went to a shop on Via Condotti - a whole street full of luxury stores! A beautiful shop that was a wonderland of vibrant prints and textures, soft leather handbags, and luxurious silks! Imagine my delight when I discovered a beautiful silk scarf with a vibrant floral print! A splash of color on my plain black tutu… I’m absolutely in love!

To end the day, I treated myself to an extraordinary flamenco performance at a little, hidden gem tucked away in a quiet corner of the city. It was incredible! The passion and energy, the vibrant costumes – the beauty of the dance is beyond words. This amazing evening ignited something within me, reminding me of my own love of ballet and my journey. It inspired me to dream of taking my performances to new heights.

Day 3 – Roman Dreams & A Slice of Pink

Today, I took a trip to Villa Borghese. It's a serene oasis amidst the bustle of the city. Walking through its peaceful gardens, I couldn't help but be reminded of my Derbyshire roots. A touch of English charm tucked away in this incredible Italian city. I spent the afternoon indulging in a classic cappuccino and enjoying a little bit of people watching – there's something so wonderful about sitting in a quaint little café, soaking in the city's buzz.

It wouldn’t be a Pink Tutu blog post without a little touch of pink, right? So I ventured into a local Italian craft market, a haven of local artisans selling exquisite handmade goods. I discovered a lovely ceramic pink ballerina figurine – and knew instantly it would have a special place on my bedside table. She will remind me of this incredible trip to Rome!

And here’s a little insider tip for all you aspiring Rome travelers: When it comes to experiencing authentic Roman culture, be sure to pop by Trastevere! This charming little neighborhood, bursting with cobblestone alleyways and local markets, will truly enchant you! It's also a great place to indulge in a traditional Italian dinner. Trust me, the flavors are unforgettable!

Looking Ahead

My Roman adventure has been one for the books. It's a beautiful city with a rich history, a vibrant cultural scene, and an intoxicating energy. I've been wowed by everything from the food, fashion and the stunning architecture. It’s left an unforgettable imprint on my heart, inspiring my soul and adding new stories to my own Pink Tutu adventures!

Oh, and speaking of Pink Tutu adventures... next week I’m headed to Paris! The city of lights, love, and, of course, beautiful fashion!

See you next Wednesday with a new installment! Remember, be bold, be adventurous, and wear a little pink!

Ciao Bella!

Love,

Emma xx
