Pink Tutu Rome - Blog Post #1123: A Twirling Time in the Eternal City

Ciao, darlings! Emma here, back from another fabulous adventure, this time in the heart of Italy, Rome!

It’s Wednesday, so naturally you know what that means - it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome blog post! Rome is a city of romance, history, and food…but did you know it also has an incredibly vibrant theatre scene? I’m so glad I got to explore it, because even as a pink tutu-clad ballerina, it never gets old discovering a new theatre, let alone a whole city full of them!

Traveling in Style - Trains, Tutus & Rome!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - nothing beats the romance of train travel. For me, stepping onto that carriage, leaving behind the hustle and bustle, and letting the world go by outside the window feels like a dance in itself! This trip I even treated myself to a first-class carriage, sipping on prosecco while enjoying the countryside whizzing by.

My outfit for the journey? You know me, darling. A chic black turtleneck, some fabulously fashionable skinny jeans and, of course, my signature pink tutu. I love how a touch of pink can instantly make everything feel more fun, even a long train ride. This tutu was a real treasure, adorned with delicate pink sequins and a little black bow, adding a touch of "ballerina chic".

Roman Holiday - First Impressions of the Eternal City

The moment I stepped out of Termini station and into the city's energy, I knew I was in for a treat. Everything is a symphony of sounds - street music, chatter, the melodic chiming of church bells, all interwoven to create a unique melody. Rome, I knew instantly, is a place that whispers history in every stone.

And the fashion! Forget the cliché images of leather trousers and oversized sunglasses, darlings. There's an unexpected modern chic here. Imagine flowing floral prints on men, chunky heels and brightly coloured skirts worn with such confidence. I think they're onto something...

Exploring Rome with a Pink Tutu Twist

This week, Rome became a ballet stage, with its own unique storyline, and me? I was the prima ballerina! I twirled through cobbled alleyways, pirouetted in piazzas, and leaped across Piazza Navona, much to the amusement of passing Romans!

Highlights from a week of Roman Adventures

My Rome itinerary was jam-packed with sights, shows, and shopping sprees, each one adding another glittering note to the melody of my Rome adventure. Let me give you a little taste of what made this week a real highlight:

  • The Roman Forum & Colosseum - A must-see, of course, but for me it felt even more magical when I imagined all the stories that the ancient stones have witnessed over centuries. Imagine those majestic gladiators walking those paths! It really does transport you to another time.

  • The Pantheon - A Temple of Beauty and Wonder

This breathtaking architectural masterpiece simply took my breath away! It's almost like it's lifted directly from ancient Greek mythology - grand, majestic, and with a touch of ethereal beauty. I even snuck in a little "ballet pose" near the entrance for the ultimate photo opportunity!

  • Trastevere: A Bohemian Village Heart

Rome has its glamorous side, but Trastevere offered a refreshingly casual, boho vibe. This labyrinth of cobbled streets is packed with artists’ studios, cafes with twinkling lights, and the aroma of delicious pizza cooking in traditional ovens. A must-visit for anyone who wants to experience a truly authentic, artistic side of Rome!

The Shows Must Go On - Ballet, Opera, & More!

Now, darling, you know I can't be in Rome without exploring the amazing theatre scene. Here's what caught my eye this week:

  • A Ballet Under the Stars - Rome's open-air theatres really captured the imagination. It was such a treat to see "Romeo & Juliet" performed under the starlit sky at Teatro Olimpico, the most stunning ancient theatre. Seeing the classic story unfold, against a backdrop of a star-strewn sky, is a memory I'll treasure forever.

  • Opera & Candlelight at Basilica San Lorenzo

Rome is the birthplace of Opera, so naturally I had to indulge in a magical performance! This was at the stunning Basilica San Lorenzo, a gothic masterpiece where the beauty of the building was rivaled by the music, even more spectacular because of the beautiful lighting. The music just felt intense and heartfelt - it was one of those truly special evenings that leaves you with goosebumps!

Finding Inspiration: Rome & Fashion

My trip wouldn’t be complete without a bit of shopping therapy, now would it? And what better place to indulge my fashion obsessions than Rome!

  • Chic Boutiques on Via Condotti - My first stop had to be Via Condotti, where chic Italian brands like Gucci, Armani, and Prada showcase their latest creations. Walking those streets felt like I was walking through a runway show, and it's safe to say my bank balance took a little tumble!

  • Vintage Fashion Finds in Trastevere

Trastevere is a treasure trove for vintage finds. Hidden gems tucked into side alleys were bursting with retro treasures, offering unique and beautiful pieces I simply couldn't resist! This vintage leather jacket with fringed detailing is my new prized possession!

  • Finding my inner Donatello

I am a huge art and fashion fan and love visiting places like Florence, so finding Donatello's masterpiece at the Palazzo Vecchio in Rome felt truly special!

Bringing Rome Home with Me

The time for me to say Arrivederci to the Eternal City has sadly arrived! I have a long train journey ahead, but a new wave of creative inspiration has filled me!

My week in Rome was a whirl of discovery, a kaleidoscope of experiences that have ignited my passion for theatre, travel and, of course, my love of ballet! And to top it off? I discovered a new appreciation for how much a vibrant, well-tailored pink tutu can elevate any moment, from a railway station to a Roman Piazza!

You're already getting some amazing outfit ideas, right, darlings?

As I catch the train back to Derbyshire, England, the city is left behind, but its spirit lives on in the pages of my blog, in my memories, and most definitely in my wardrobe!

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for new photos and fashion finds! I have some amazing plans brewing…and it all revolves around the colour pink, you can be sure of it!

Ciao Bella!

Until next week…
