Pink Tutu Rome - Post #1131 - Wednesday 2017-02-08
Ciao Bella!
Well, here I am in the Eternal City, Rome! Can you believe it? It's been a whirlwind of cobbled streets, stunning architecture, delicious food and...yes, you guessed it, a pink tutu! It's almost become a tradition, right? Every new city, a new pink tutu! And let me tell you, Rome was made for pink tutus.
It was a dream come true to be hopping aboard the Eurostar from Derby (hello, Derbyshire!) and making my way down to the Continent. This trip has been in the works for months - I mean, who wouldn't be excited to waltz around the Roman Forum in a fluffy pink tutu? The magic of the stage helped make this journey possible, thanks to the most recent production of "Swan Lake" I danced in last month.
As soon as I landed in Rome, it was as if the city was a stage waiting for me to step onto. There's an undeniable air of history here that sets it apart, just like the ancient coliseums.
First up, my hotel! I am living the life at the Hotel San Anselmo in Trastevere. If youāre searching for that quintessential Italian villa vibe, this place has it all - stone fountains, cobbled courtyards and bougainvillea tumbling over terracotta walls. It's the perfect setting to slip into my favourite pink tulle ballerina dress for an Instagram post.
Speaking of fashion, the shopping! Oh my goodness! Letās be honest, my heart skipped a beat when I stepped out of the station and saw all the Italian boutiques. The quality of the fabrics and the beautiful tailoring is just divine! And with so many vintage stores around, there are enough lace dresses to make my head spin! But don't worry, my fellow tutu lovers, my pink tulle skirt has held strong through it all. It wouldnāt be right to abandon the iconic pink tulle on a trip like this, right?
Iām all about soaking up the culture when I travel, and luckily, this city has got a vibrant scene. Last night, we went to an incredible ballet performance at the Teatro dellāOpera di Roma - breathtaking. The story of āThe Nutcrackerā unfolded in a whirlwind of colourful costumes and powerful dance sequences. Afterwards, I slipped on a pair of chic heels (pink, obviously!) and joined the locals for a gelato at one of the local gelaterias - letās just say my tummy was doing a happy dance.
And let's talk food! I have fallen completely head over heels for all things pasta in Rome. I even managed to convince my friend, Mary, to join me in a pasta-making class at a hidden gem of a restaurant in Trastevere. We learned the art of shaping delicate ravioli and perfectly tossing al dente spaghetti. Weāve made friends with a lovely couple of locals over a table laden with pasta and wine! The evening just flowed effortlessly into dancing in the streets as the Roman evening breeze swept through the streets.
But letās be real - this isn't just about pasta and pink tutus, though I think those two elements alone would make for a wonderful trip.
This week, we're exploring the Colosseum, venturing to the Vatican, and, of course, adding to my already impressive pink tulle collection. Stay tuned for photos and stories from all my Roman adventures!
Before I go, a little dose of inspiration. My biggest hope is that when people see my tutu-clad adventures, they realize how empowering a piece of tulle can be! Forget fashion faux pas, letās spread some serious pink tutu positivity! Itās time for the world to embrace a bit more twirling and sparkle!
That's it from me, folks. Now excuse me while I slip into another dazzling pink tulle creation for a sunset stroll across Ponte Sant'Angelo!
Stay stylish!
