Pink Tutu Rome: #1158 - Roman Holiday, Italian Style!
Ciao bella! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another instalment of Pink Tutu Rome! I'm back in my little apartment in Trastevere, surrounded by the cacophony of Roman life ā motorbikes, chatter, and the ever-present chirping of cicadas. After a whirlwind of a week, itās time to unwind and share my Roman adventures with you!
This weekās theme? A touch of dolce vita with a pink tutu twist, darling! It all started with the most exciting train journeyā¦ ever!
From Derbyshire to Italy: The Italian Railway and a Tutu-ful Beginning!
This time, my journey was from the rolling hills of Derbyshire, all the way to Rome. Let me tell you, I canāt think of a more wonderful way to travel! Donning a beautiful pale pink tutu with layers of tulle, my pink Converse, and my signature oversized pink sunnies, I took the Eurostar straight through the tunnel to Paris.
The whole train journey was like a glamorous, tutu-filled, mini performance. My pink was attracting looks and smiles from everyone, making it clear to all that this journey was not just a trip ā it was a Pink Tutu Experience! The other travellers looked delighted. They must be familiar with the magic of Pink Tutu ā who wouldn't be, by now, I ask you?!
Even the station staff seemed enthralled! They took photos of me with the pink tulle billowing in the wind. There were little boys, dressed as super heroes, doing little twirls beside me on the platform.
Letās face it, darlings, a pink tutu in the right setting turns the ordinary into an extraordinary!
A Stroll Through Roman Streets
In Rome, Iām staying in the picturesque district of Trastevere. This charming neighbourhood is bursting with cobbled streets, colourful houses, and traditional trattorias. I find it incredibly romantic; a complete contrast to the energy and fast pace of Derby. After the train journey and my arrival in Rome, my first afternoon here was dedicated to exploring these romantic streets!
I meandered through Trastevereās vibrant, artistic atmosphere. The light was incredible. I simply had to stop at every colourful flower stall! The smells and sounds all contributed to the captivating aroma of ancient Rome, making it such a rich experience.
As I walked, I was looking out for a place for lunch. It had to be somewhere pretty! After all, even food needs to be Insta-worthy these days. I soon came across "La Bottega", a tiny little trattoria in a hidden square. It was like being transported into a vintage movie, filled with beautiful tables covered in red and white tablecloths.
The trattoria had the most amazing homemade food! Spaghetti with courgette flowers, and fresh mozzarella and tomatoes - it was delicious. But it wasn't just about the food. It was all about the setting.
I ordered my meal and spent some time looking at all the Italian men (they do love a suit and a little style!) And I watched the world go by through the cafe window, sketching on my little notepad with my pink fountain pen.
Teatro dellāOpera di Roma
Iāve got to say that the best part of my Rome trip so far has been seeing a show at the Teatro dellāOpera di Roma. It was absolutely incredible! I decided on āLa BohĆØmeā and took the opportunity to wear a beautiful vintage tutu - the kind youād see in a real ballerina's costume. You know, with a bit more sparkle and some ruffles, darling. It was like stepping out of a storybook, I must say!
The atmosphere was thrilling ā it was a privilege to be in the same space as some of the most incredible dancers and singers. I love a good ballet ā especially with a dash of tragedy, like āLa BohĆØme!ā ā a great story told beautifully through music and performance.
Pink Tutu and the Shopping Experience in Rome!
What's a Pink Tutu Rome adventure without a spot of retail therapy? After the opera, I couldnāt resist an afternoon at Via Condotti, Rome's most elegant shopping street. It was a total dream, filled with luxury boutiques and the sound of high-heeled stilettos! There were exquisite fabrics, stylish sunglasses, and more pink items than you could possibly imagine.
The atmosphere was intoxicating. Every shop window shimmered with designer goods, and the air buzzed with the chatter of excited shoppers and sales assistants. The highlight for me? It had to be a fabulous pink vintage handbag, so utterly retro and gorgeous. And you won't believe it ā I managed to bag a little bit of a bargain. Just goes to show: even in the most fashionable place in Rome, you can get a pink tutu bargain, darling!
Street Performances ā Bringing it all Together!
Youāve got to see Rome through the eyes of a performer. Whether it's the ballets, the music, or the dance. The people of Rome do it all, with so much joy and passion, darling!
Even while I was wandering the streets, I discovered these incredible street performers who brought me a little magic. One of them was a magician, with such charming, light, graceful hands! And then there were these singers - opera singers, jazz, and everything in between ā singing out for everyone to enjoy. Each one had their own special twist and style and each one was amazing to see and listen to.
Every street corner is a potential stage ā Rome is a melting pot of talent, full of beauty and culture.
I had an amazing time capturing these little performances on film. I even ended up having a āPink Tutu photo-opā with one of the performers. I told her about Pink Tutu and she loved it! She even asked to be in a video, which Iām posting on YouTube later tonight.
I find this side of Rome truly magnetic, a city that never sleeps and never ceases to amaze. Every turn of the cobbled road offers something exciting. You can be inspired by a street performer's creativity, a ballerina's grace, the rhythm of Italian music. Thereās an essence here that reminds me of the ballet stage ā so vibrant, so moving! Itās so wonderful to capture this magic in Pink Tutu Rome!
On the horizon... More Pink Tutu Adventures in Rome!
Itās been a fabulous, busy few days! I have more Pink Tutu fun lined up for next week, including a trip to the Vatican and more shopping, and maybe even a performance on a little balcony. You know, in true Pink Tutu Rome style, darling! Iām sure thereās more pink magic to discover around here ā Iāll be sharing it all with you.
Catch you next week for a new Pink Tutu Rome blog ā on Wednesday! And remember, darling, thereās a pink tutu out there waiting for you!
With love, Emma
