Pink Tutu Rome: A Whirlwind of Fashion & Culture (Post #1159)

Buongiorno, darlings! It's your favourite tutu-clad adventurer, Emma, back from the glorious streets of Rome, ready to share a whirlwind of pink, pasta, and piazzas! This week, I'm buzzing after an incredible few days in the Eternal City, and trust me, this blog post is going to be filled with all the girly delights that a Pink Tutu princess could wish for.

This is week number 1159 of the Pink Tutu Rome blog. It's Wednesday, 23rd of August, and I'm sitting at my little table in the hotel, typing away, with my laptop and a glass of limoncello. It's that dreamy mix of sunshine and lazy afternoon that just makes me want to twirl. Honestly, I could be writing this post in a ballgown or a tracksuit and I’d be just as happy – as long as it's pink, right?

Speaking of pink, Rome hasn't disappointed on that front! It's all about the gelato in this city – oh, the gelato! – and you just know that the Pink Tutu princess loves herself a good, pink scoop (or three!). Every day was a gelato adventure – rose, strawberry, passion fruit, raspberry… the possibilities are endless!

This week, I kicked things off with a fabulous ballet performance at the Teatro dell'Opera. It was a production of "La Sylphide", a classic, and I simply adored the graceful movements and the sheer beauty of the dancers' pink tutus (how fitting!). Afterwards, I wandered through the streets, soaking up the charm of this historic city, feeling like I was in a fairytale.

Speaking of fairytale, the Pantheon – wow! It’s just breathtaking. I know I should be focusing on the architectural history, but all I could think was "it looks like something out of Cinderella!" You could see why they had a problem with the glass slipper... The way the light plays through that massive hole in the roof is incredible! And then there’s the Colosseum. Imagine how dazzling that must have been back in its prime, filled with the cheers of thousands! I got a little bit misty-eyed just thinking about all those stories.

As a tutu-clad wanderer, one of my favourite activities is, of course, fashion! You guys know how much I love shopping. Rome’s definitely lived up to its fashion reputation. I’ve found so many lovely things that are going to work perfectly with my current Pink Tutu wardrobe (yes, even I need a little refresh from time to time, and let’s be honest, the most gorgeous shade of pink comes from Italy, anyway, wouldn’t you agree?). I found a darling little boutique just around the corner from the hotel with a range of summer dresses in all sorts of bright shades, but there were, of course, a lot of pink options – what else could you expect from this pink princess? And for the ballet lover, the shop across from the Teatro dell’Opera has amazing ballet-inspired clothes. The outfits I found have got my twirling toes just a-twitching!

Speaking of twirling, Rome is perfect for that! There’s just something about these cobbled streets and little piazzas. They inspire so much spontaneous twirling, it’s ridiculous! Honestly, everyone in Rome must think I'm a little bit loopy.

As usual, I couldn't leave without picking up some souvenirs for my family and friends back in Derbyshire. Rome is so packed with history and culture that it's hard to decide! But of course, my pink shopping list wasn’t just for the others – my friends and family always get a little pink something, while my new tutu gets something pink, and me? I, of course, go shopping for pink! I even managed to snag a pink gelato cup! (Yes, I really am obsessed, okay!).

One of my favourite parts about travelling is getting to know local artists, musicians, and performers. This week, I had a little ballet class in a gorgeous garden in the heart of Rome! The tutor was fantastic, and all the other students were super welcoming. They even gave me a little pink hair flower, which made me smile. It was the perfect way to unwind after all the excitement and discover some more about the city. And of course, I did a little twirling, which always feels perfect with the aroma of freshly-baked bread wafting through the air, the chatter of people passing by, and the sunshine warming my pink skin. It just doesn’t get much more idyllic than this.

And let’s be honest, we’ve all got to find ways to unwind and stay fit when we’re away, right? My ballet practice is always my way of keeping my Pink Tutu skills sharp (and yes, it definitely is a form of practice… don't try telling me otherwise).

To top it all off, my train journey was as wonderful as ever! It’s a total luxury. All the people dressed up in the beautiful scenery going by my window – it truly felt like a real-life storybook.

Well, that’s it for another week from Pink Tutu Rome!

Rome’s really charmed me – the vibrant culture, the delicious food, and of course, all the gorgeous, pink opportunities (what’s a princess without her pink?).

Until next week, darlings, and remember: twirl like you're the only one in the room!

Love,

Emma Xx
