Pink Tutu Rome: Week 1185 - The Eternal City, From Trevi Fountain to the Theatre

Ciao bella! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing ballerina, and today I'm writing to you live from the heart of Rome, the Eternal City. Yes, darling, I'm back, and this week's blog is dedicated to all the fabulousness that Rome has to offer!

As you all know, I’m a Derbyshire lass at heart, but I do love me some travelling – particularly by train. So, after my recent whirlwind trip to Paris, I decided to take the Italian rail journey – and I have to say, it’s right up there with one of my all-time favourite ways to travel. The scenery is breathtaking, the coffee is incredible, and you can just soak in all the lovely views, while getting a dose of European history.

I can't believe it’s already been a week in this incredible city – it truly feels like I've barely scratched the surface! But I have been making the most of my time here – embracing the pink sunsets over the rooftops, throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain (and whispering my wish for another ballet tour, of course), exploring hidden backstreets, indulging in gelato, and most importantly, enjoying the absolutely magnificent atmosphere that Rome has to offer.

Now, I know you love to see me wearing pink – it's kind of my signature, darling! – and so it would be no surprise to find out that I found the most wonderful little pink boutique tucked away in a quaint, cobblestoned alleyway. It was a genuine treasure trove, filled with the most divine silk scarves and dazzling pink sequins! It's hard to pick favourites, darling, but I definitely left with a blush-pink chiffon dress that is just begging to be twirled in on the grand steps of the Spanish Steps, and a feather boa so ridiculously fabulous that it wouldn't be out of place at a glamorous Milan Fashion Week party.

Oh, speaking of fashion, did I tell you about the Opera I attended here on Monday? Oh my word, it was stunning! Imagine: galleries of marble, chandeliers glistening with light, the smell of exquisite perfume, and me, twirling in my pink tutu, feeling like a true princess!

It was La Traviata, darling. You all know I have a real passion for classic ballet performances. There's nothing quite like the beauty and grace of movement – the storytelling in every plié and jeté, the emotions poured out through dance, the sheer joy and wonder! The energy in the auditorium was infectious – people stood up to applaud as the final curtain fell, and even I (usually quite the stoic observer) shed a little tear.

It wasn't just about the Opera itself, though. It was about the entire experience – the excitement before the show, the vibrant energy within the building, the opulent setting, and the incredible artistry. The performance transported me into another world, and I truly felt like I had stepped into a fairytale!

But that wasn’t the end of the magic for me this week, darling. On Tuesday, I was thrilled to be part of a special ballet performance, here in Rome! I wasn't dancing myself this time - my fellow dancers were absolutely phenomenal, gliding through intricate choreography – but I did get to go behind the scenes, watch their warm-up, feel the nerves of the pre-performance jitters, and learn more about the preparation that goes into a professional show. The performers were incredibly welcoming and so down to earth – a complete contrast to their glamorous, elegant stage persona!

For the show itself, I donned my very best, emerald-green tutu (my personal interpretation of Rome's green, luscious hills) and added a little more drama with a shimmering emerald headband and glittering necklace. My goal, as always, was to spread the joy of the pink tutu and encourage everyone, young and old, to embrace a bit of fancy flair.

Now, there are still a couple more days before I say "arrivederci" to this gorgeous city. So what have I got lined up for you lovely people back home?

Well, today – it's Wednesday – I'm going to spend my afternoon shopping! My little trip to the pink boutique has just fuelled my desire for all things fabulous! I'm looking for a statement bag, a gorgeous vintage shawl, and maybe even a new pair of Italian leather boots to add a bit of sophisticated Italian style to my wardrobe. I mean, it's a holiday, and you’ve got to splurge sometimes!

Tonight, though, the focus is pure indulgence. I have a delicious table booked at a little gem of a trattoria, renowned for its divine spaghetti al ragu. Oh my word, just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Then, for my night cap, I plan to treat myself to a fabulous gelato from a local favourite gelato place. I hear it has a whole menu dedicated to pink-tinted flavours! (Who could say no to that, right?)

So, dear reader, this week's "Pink Tutu Rome" has been full of enchantment, adventure, and oh so much pink. The magic of this city is real, and the city has filled my spirit with new energy and inspiration! I’m absolutely in love with the beautiful Italian culture, the charming streets, the amazing food, and the joy of living life to the fullest – and who knows? I just might return again with my Pink Tutu Squad in tow. You never know!

Remember, darlings, life is about embracing the sparkle. I'm already dreaming of my next destination!

Until next week, stay fabulous!

Yours in pink,

Emma xoxo
