Pink Tutu Rome: #1205 - A Ballerina's Whirlwind through the Eternal City!
Ciao Bella! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu blog post! I'm in Rome, darling, and feeling like a princess in a fairytale! I've always dreamt of visiting this iconic city, and let me tell you, it's even more magnificent than I ever imagined. I've been here for a week, and already, this trip has been packed with excitement, stunning sights, delicious food (pizza, gelato, and pasta...oh my!), and a healthy dose of Pink Tutu magic, of course.
I travelled by train from Derbyshire, you know, good old fashioned, romantic, scenic train travel - definitely a better way to see the countryside than any plane! It took ages, but I was so busy knitting my latest pink tutu design (my new one's a shimmering silver and blush, and trust me, youāll want to get your hands on it) that I hardly noticed the hours ticking by!
My apartment, right in the heart of the city, is pure dreamy ā a quaint little place, overlooking the gorgeous Roman rooftops, and - get this! - itās filled with vintage ballet posters! You can bet your bottom dollar that they've inspired a new blog post idea or twoā¦ Just you wait, darling.
So, where to begin? The Colosseum? It was quite simply epic! Imagine standing amongst the ruins of that grand old arena, picturing the gladiatorial fights and the cheers of the Roman crowds...chills! The Trevi Fountain? Itās everything itās cracked up to be, simply breathtaking, and so busy that I literally had to fight my way through crowds of tourists - a good job I had my Pink Tutu on! Luckily, nobody even noticed Iād accidentally chucked a few more coins into the fountain than I plannedā¦ Letās just say a few āoopsā and āwhoopsiesā happened, because *who cares about the pennies, eh? * (Donāt tell anyone though!)
Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without exploring the Vatican! St. Peter's Basilica ā holy moly! It took my breath away, and the artwork inside was something else ā I mean, imagine the passion and skill of those Michelangelo, Raphael, Bernini - all these incredible artists! Itās mind boggling how talented they were.
Fashion finds? Well, you can't visit Rome without adding to your wardrobe! The streets are bursting with boutique stores, with fashion inspired by timeless style, classic Italian design, and a whole heap of fun! Letās just say my suitcase is a little heavier than it was on arrivalā¦ A girl can never have enough fabulous clothes, right?
And the food? Divine! Every single meal, every plate of pasta, every gelato cone has been an absolute gastronomic treat - all washed down with the finest Italian espresso. Oh darling, itās just too good for words! You simply have to try a Nutella crepe, if you ever visit Rome.
Oh, and thereās the dancing! Romeās been a real treat for the ballerina in me! There was the magnificent Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, an old, opulent theatre, where I was swept away by the beauty of "La Traviata" ā stunning costumes, captivating performance! They also do free ballet lessons, outside, in the shadow of the Colosseum, at sunset. Did you see the photos on my Instagram? Absolutely mesmerising!
Today, (Tuesday 10th July, as Iām writing thisā¦) I plan to spend the afternoon exploring Trastevere. Thereās so much left to see ā the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, more incredible galleries ā it just seems endless!
Tonight? A lovely candlelit dinner in Trastevere followed by some traditional Italian street theatre and singing!
Speaking of street performances! Remember, darling, itās the heart of the Pink Tutu Tour to spread joy, sparkle, and confidence ā so when Iām not twirling in tutus in ballet class, or experiencing the culture and art in this incredible city, you can find me wearing pink and strutting my stuff through the Roman streets! The more I get out there, the more I feel that everyone, from grandmas to toddlers to school kids, is actually starting to take notice!
Keep those pink tutus twirling, darlings, Iāll be back with a new blog post next Wednesday - keep your eyes peeled, because Iāll be letting you know how Rome went ā or should I say Ciao, Roma?
Love, Emma xoxo
