Pink Tutu Rome #1219: Roman Holiday in a Pink Tutu!

Ciao bella! It's Emma here, your pink-tutu-wearing, travel-obsessed, ballet-loving blogger, bringing you another slice of life from the most magical city in the world - Rome!

This week's adventures started, as always, on the train. I love travelling by train. It's so relaxing, and I can really let my creativity flow. I was in a real pink mood this week, so my ensemble included, of course, a beautiful hot pink tutu, topped with a crisp white blouse and my signature ballet flats, this time a sparkly pair with gold details.

Rome has always had a special place in my heart. My first visit, at 17, was with my family. I remember the breathtaking Colosseum, the romantic cobbled streets, and the delicious gelato - which I indulged in shamelessly, of course. This time, though, it's all about Pink Tutu Rome! I'm on a mission to show everyone how fantastic this city can be, and of course, inspire some pink tutu action.

Day 1:

The train dropped me off in the heart of Rome, and I was straight into a whirlwind of pink excitement! My hotel is just a short stroll from the Pantheon. Now, if you've never seen this magnificent building, you're missing out! Its perfect circular shape, crowned with a giant dome, just blew me away. I practically floated inside, captivated by the soft light filtering through the massive hole in the roof. You could have easily convinced me I was back in the days of the Roman Empire!

After a little wander through the quaint shops lining the streets, I decided to indulge in some shopping. Oh, the sheer bliss of browsing in Roman boutiques! You find so many unique treasures here, especially in the less touristy parts. I snagged a stunning pink silk scarf adorned with Roman-inspired patterns - I couldn't resist!

The highlight of the day was definitely the evening. I'd booked tickets for the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma! It was a lavish performance of Verdi's "Rigoletto". The costumes, the music, the sheer talent on stage… it left me speechless! I just felt so fortunate to be part of this magical experience, surrounded by so much artistic beauty.

Day 2:

After a delightful breakfast of freshly baked pastries and a cappuccino at a local cafe (pink-themed, of course!), it was time for some serious Roman sightseeing! The Trevi Fountain is one of those places you just have to see to believe. I found myself mesmerized by the incredible water features and the sculptures that bring the mythical story of the fountain to life. I even made a wish, while tossing in a coin – wish me luck, darlings!

But, it wasn't all about fountains and ruins! I spent the afternoon with my dear friend, Isabella, a fellow ballerina who's been living in Rome for a few years. We indulged in some serious gelato, exploring hidden shops tucked away on charming streets.

To finish the day on a high, we headed for the Teatro Olimpico. This gorgeous renaissance theater felt so intimate, and the performances, showcasing traditional Italian stories, transported me back to another era. As always, the sheer passion for theatre here left me in awe.

Day 3:

It was time to explore beyond the bustling city centre! My train journey took me to Ostia Antica, a fascinating ancient Roman city with beautifully preserved ruins. Walking through the streets, it was easy to imagine life as it once was here. The ruins felt so real, and I could picture the bustle of this busy Roman port.

Back in Rome:

With the days flying by, I felt a sense of wistful sadness knowing I had to leave this magnificent city soon.

I was determined to squeeze in every last bit of magic before I went. One last wander through the Piazza Navona, its cobblestones buzzing with artists, performers and tourists. Then, I had to check out the majestic Colosseum! The scale and sheer grandeur of this iconic building took my breath away. I wandered through the arches, picturing the gladiators and the crowds cheering from the stands, and then spent ages sketching its imposing outline.

Rome had woven its magic again. I’ve returned to Derbyshire filled with inspiration and stories to tell. Rome was always a dream destination, but experiencing it with my pink tutu added an extra layer of enchantment. As I often say: a pink tutu takes you everywhere!

I’ll be back next week with another pink-tutu filled adventure. This time, we're taking the train to Florence! Until then, darling readers, I hope you all embrace the pink tutu lifestyle! Be fearless, be glamorous, and most importantly, be yourselves!

Love, Emma
