Pink Tutu Rome #1222: Roman Holiday Dreams
Hello, darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu adventure! This week, we're whisked away to the heart of the Eternal City - Rome! 🇮🇹
Now, you all know I'm a big fan of travelling by train. It’s so much more glamorous than flying, with those big windows, the swaying motion, and the opportunity to strike up a conversation with a charming stranger! This journey started with a jaunt from Derbyshire, with my trusty pink suitcase in tow, of course.
It was a long trip, but it was so worth it. I'd been dreaming of visiting Rome ever since I saw the movie, you know the one, with Audrey Hepburn and the delicious-looking gelato. 🍦
My hotel room has a balcony with the most stunning view of the Colosseum, all lit up at night. It's so majestic, it’s like something out of a ballet performance - just a bit less glittery! 😂
As always, the first stop for any Pink Tutu traveler has to be a bit of shopping, so off I trotted to the Spanish Steps. Oh my goodness, the shops! It’s a bit of a sartorial heaven, and it all makes me feel very elegant and fashionable! They have all the hottest Italian labels there, but you can also find hidden gems in some of the smaller boutiques too, where they let you try on all the pieces until you find the perfect one.
I’m sporting a divine, very-Rome-inspired outfit that I picked up – a silky, floaty pink sundress with delicate lace and tiny floral embroidery, and to really up the Pink Tutu glam factor, I’m wearing my brand new, shimmery pink pumps, and a miniature pink flower tucked behind my ear. 🌸
As you might know, I love going to ballet performances when I travel, and Rome is home to the incredible Teatro dell’Opera. The other night I saw a production of "Giselle" – breathtaking! There are so many talented ballet dancers in Rome and seeing their effortless grace is always so inspiring! I swear, I just feel this surge of energy afterwards that makes me want to jump into the spotlight and twirl in my pink tutu myself.
The Teatro dell’Opera building is so stunning, it’s worth a visit just to take in the architecture – very romantic! I felt transported back in time, sitting in the velvet plush seating, watching the performers leap, twirl and glide with such talent! It was magic! ✨
But Rome is not just about the arts. Food plays a major part in the Italian experience. I mean, let's be honest, how could we be a proper Pink Tutu traveler without a delightful pastry, delicious coffee and maybe a little scoop of creamy gelato to fuel all those fun and frolicky adventures?
Yesterday I found this adorable café tucked away in a tiny cobblestoned courtyard, where I devoured a decadent slice of strawberry cheesecake. And just the other day I wandered through Campo de’ Fiori, which is a bustling marketplace overflowing with all sorts of interesting fruits and vegetables, herbs and cheeses and fresh flowers! My Instagram is going wild with these finds! I bought a beautiful bunch of lilacs to adorn my hotel room.
You know, being in Rome makes you think about history too. Walking through ancient ruins, imagining all the lives that unfolded in these places, just sends my imagination into overdrive! The Forum, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain... I’ve been to them all. The air seems charged with a sense of wonder, like the ghosts of past centuries still linger here.
But what makes my travels truly unforgettable is the people I meet along the way. Last night, I shared a delightful dinner with a group of young musicians. I’d met them outside the Colosseum and, because of my beautiful pink tutu, they assumed I was a ballerina. After an exciting exchange, we were soon bonding over our love for Italian culture, delicious food and good times! We all had a great time sharing stories and laughter over spaghetti and a carafe of wine!
Today, we're exploring the Trastevere district, which is said to be a very bohemian part of the city. They say there are lots of street performances here, so hopefully I can grab a great street performer’s snap for Instagram and I’ll try my best to find some hidden street art, and snap photos to inspire my Pink Tutu fashion style.
I think it’s important to remember that beauty and inspiration can be found everywhere – in a romantic street corner, in the way a street vendor pours you a perfect cup of coffee, in the grace of a stray cat sashaying across the cobbles.
Rome, you have a special magic that just captures the imagination and fills you with joy!
Now, darlings, go forth and spread some Pink Tutu magic! I'll catch you next Wednesday with another dose of travel inspiration and a sprinkle of pink. ✨
Until then, wear your heart on your sleeve (or a pink tutu, for that matter)! 🩰
Much love, Emma 💖
