Pink Tutu Rome: #1242 - Ciao Bella, Rome!
Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to the Eternal City and overflowing with Italian romance, delectable cuisine, and of course, endless inspiration! Welcome to this week's Pink Tutu Rome blog, where we'll be diving headfirst into a world of Roman elegance, Parisian chic, and, of course, the magic of the dance floor!
A Train Journey Fit for a Prima Ballerina
As always, I opted for a scenic train journey. There's something magical about gliding through the countryside, a steaming cup of tea warming my hands as the world whizzes past. This time, my adventure began in beautiful Derbyshire, England. I miss the green rolling hills and charming village pubs, but oh, the thrill of the new awaits!
My Parisian ballet class (remember, darling, you can always catch my Tuesday posts for ballet snippets) kept me extra toned and agile for this Roman escapade, and after the rigorous rehearsals, the train carriage felt like a personal retreat. A pink tutu, naturally, was essential for the journey! After all, when in doubt, twirl it out, right? And the passengers, oh, they were mesmerized! There's something so joyful about a pink tutu in the middle of a train. Pure whimsy!
Roman Revelations
Arriving in Rome was like stepping onto the stage of a grand opera! The air was abuzz with a million stories waiting to unfold. A symphony of smells and sounds enveloped me: the tangy scent of freshly baked focaccia, the joyous shouts of street vendors, the deep rumble of scooters winding through the narrow cobbled streets. And the colours! Sun-bleached terracotta, vibrant bougainvillea clinging to ancient stone, and of course, a dash of pastel pink to catch my eye (because every city needs a touch of ballet magic!).
Shopping for a Cause
I couldn't resist starting my Rome journey with a visit to a hidden gem boutique nestled amongst the charming streets of Trastevere. It's filled with vintage treasures - perfect for channeling my inner Audrey Hepburn! I picked out the most beautiful ivory silk scarf, its delicate embroidery reminding me of a graceful ballerina. And wouldn't you know it, I even spotted a pink vintage tutu tucked away in a corner! It was a moment straight out of a fairy tale! Remember darlings, this week is "Buy Pink, Give Back." 10% of all my pink-themed shopping goes to support local charities. We're bringing back the joy of pink one twirl at a time!
A Roman Feast for the Senses
Italy is a symphony for the senses! Of course, my day wasn't complete without an exquisite Roman feast. I ventured into the heart of the Trastevere neighbourhood and was drawn in by the enchanting aroma of slow-cooked ragu. I indulged in a divine plate of spaghetti alla carbonara (the perfect combination of rich and creamy - just like my perfect cup of tea!). The pasta danced on my tongue, the flavour lingering on my tastebuds - a taste of pure happiness.
Art in Motion
Oh, and my darling, the Colosseum! What a breathtaking monument to history, an echo of Roman grandeur! I imagine it buzzing with crowds, cheering for gladiatorial battles, a grand spectacle indeed. The stone whispers stories of courage, battles, and a timeless allure. The Colosseum even reminded me of the ballet stage, a timeless spectacle filled with breathtaking moments of artistry! I wonder how the Romans would have embraced the graceful moves of a ballet, the costumes shimmering in the midday sun?
Opera, Romance, and Ballet
For a true dose of Roman flair, a visit to the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma was an absolute must! The sheer grandeur of the architecture transported me straight into a world of dramatic art. On this Wednesday evening, 27th March 2019, I witnessed the magic unfold on stage in the form of a production of "La Traviata." Verdi's iconic masterpiece took me on an emotional journey. And to think, "La Traviata" was the story of a ballerina - Violetta Valery! It made me appreciate how even classic art forms like opera were touched by the magical world of dance! The passionate melodies, the elaborate costumes, the stunning sets - it all came together for a performance I will never forget.
A Ballet Escape
Of course, my Roman journey wouldn't be complete without a spot of ballet. I found a lovely little studio in a tucked away corner, hidden amongst cobblestone streets, and joined a class of vibrant, graceful souls. There's nothing quite like the feeling of your body moving effortlessly to music, your soul connected to every step. The ballet barre and "en pointe" positions - oh the graceful magic! It's a wonderful way to feel your best, and I felt my pink tutu spirit flow as we pirouetted our way through classic movements!
Pink Tutu Reflections
Rome has stolen a piece of my heart. The city itself is like a grand ballet performance. With its history, culture, fashion, and passionate spirit, it’s no wonder that it’s known as the Eternal City! This trip has inspired me, rejuvenated my artistic soul, and reignited my love for ballet and the pursuit of my own Pink Tutu dream.
Remember darling, you don’t need to be a professional dancer to wear a pink tutu. It’s a statement of confidence, joy, and self-expression. Join me, on this pink-hued journey of ballet and beautiful living.
Until next week, darlings!
Yours in pink tulle,
Emma
