Pink Tutu Rome: A Ballet-Lover's Journey (Post #1244)
Ciao bella!
It’s Emma here, back with another instalment from the enchanting city of Rome! I'm writing to you all from my cosy little hotel room, surrounded by the melodic strains of a street musician playing operatic classics. How dreamy is this?!
This week, I’ve been truly living the dolce vita. From twirling under the Roman sun to savouring every flavour of Italy’s exquisite culinary offerings, I’m absolutely smitten with the energy and magic of this incredible city.
As always, my trusty pink tutu has been a constant companion. Let's be honest, what better way to embrace the Italian flair for style and drama than with a flurry of tulle? I’ve received so many compliments from the locals – they genuinely appreciate a touch of the whimsical, even on this bustling, ancient stage.
A Ballerina's Dream: The Opera
A highlight of this trip has to be the opera at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. I’m not just talking about a ballet – though I did enjoy the captivating performance of ‘La Bayadère' - this was a full-on opera experience! The breathtaking grandeur of the theatre, the rich velvety seats, the plush surroundings, it all took my breath away.
Now, let's get to the details. The performance itself was exquisite. I'm sure you can imagine a beautiful ballerina with an impressive turn in a stunning costume… well, I’d never seen such beauty on stage. But this was more than a ballet performance – it was an exploration of human emotion and drama played out against the backdrop of mesmerising music and dazzling sets. I was completely swept away by the intensity of it all.
Shopping, Style, and a Love Affair with Roman Shops
After an afternoon of cultural immersion at the Teatro dell'Opera, I needed to indulge in some retail therapy. And where better to do that than in Rome, where the shopping scene is vibrant and eclectic?
I’ve spent the past few days weaving my way through Rome’s chic streets, discovering hidden gems and indulging my love for vintage treasures. I picked up a vintage sequin top that practically screams "I'm a star!" – I just know I'll get so many wears out of it, from ballet performances back in Derbyshire to glamorous evenings here in Rome.
You know, I can’t help but be inspired by the incredible Italian style. Their confidence, their ability to look effortlessly chic even on the busiest street – it's simply breathtaking. You'll be seeing lots of Italian inspired outfit posts popping up on the website soon, don’t worry.
Adventures on Two Wheels – A Rome Vespa Ride!
How could I come to Rome and not hop on a Vespa? As soon as I saw them cruising the streets, I knew I had to try it. It wasn't quite as smooth as I'd imagined - those cobbles are seriously bumpy - but oh, it was so much fun!
Feeling the wind in my hair as I sped through Rome’s iconic landmarks felt like a scene out of a film! The freedom and joy of it were simply electric. If you're ever in Rome, a Vespa ride is an absolute must!
A Trip to The Trevi Fountain – Making a Wish on the Future
Rome has a captivating blend of history and beauty. One of the highlights of my journey has been visiting the Trevi Fountain. You know, the one that's famous for tourists throwing coins over their shoulders!
Now, I wouldn't be a true believer in magic if I hadn't joined the coin-throwing tradition, would I? I stood there for a moment, taking in the sheer scale of the fountain, the magnificent sculpture, the bubbling water... Then, with a touch of nervous excitement, I closed my eyes and tossed my coin over my shoulder. I don’t want to reveal my wish, that wouldn’t be fair. But I'm confident that with a touch of magic and a lot of hard work, it'll come true.
Taking Time to Explore - And Fueling the Pink Tutu Adventures!
Beyond the iconic sights and the captivating city scenes, I'm loving the laid-back Roman lifestyle. There’s something about soaking up the sunshine in a sunny piazza, relishing the aroma of fresh pasta wafting from a bustling trattoria, it’s all so incredibly relaxing.
Let me be honest, I have had a rather generous supply of pasta and gelato!
You might think all this travel would put a strain on the wallet. But don't worry, I've got it covered! My passion for ballet keeps the travel coffers filled – I’ve managed to perform for some wonderful events, including a delightful show for a charity ballet fundraiser and a spectacular gala performance for a renowned ballet school in Derby. I can’t thank everyone involved in supporting my Pink Tutu journey – your generosity has made this Roman adventure a reality.
Rome Through My Lens - The Beauty Captured
You’ll see plenty of photos on my Pink Tutu website from this Roman trip, you can see them on the Pink Tutu Rome website, link at the end of this post. The iconic Colosseum, with its powerful history, the charming Roman rooftops, the cascading beauty of the Trevi fountain… Every corner of Rome exudes an air of beauty and history, capturing it through my lens was an absolute joy.
