Pink Tutu Rome: Post #1279 - Exploring the Eternal City
Ciao bellas! It's Wednesday, and that means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome adventure! I'm back in the Eternal City, and believe me, this week's adventures are sparkling like a brand new pair of pointe shoes! As you know, my absolute favourite thing is seeing new cities through a ballerina's eyes - it’s how I find the best pointe-of-view on my travel adventures! And believe me, Rome doesn’t disappoint!
Last week, I was twirling in Derbyshire, England, where I had the pleasure of judging a ballet competition. I even snagged a brand new pair of pointe shoes in my favourite shade of pink, naturally. These sparkle-licious shoes are going to be the star of my Rome wardrobe!
This week, I'm bringing you all the tutulicious adventures I'm having in the city of seven hills. Let's step right in and find out what this glamorous city has in store…
A Touch of Ballet MagicThe moment I arrived, I was whisked away on a magical tour of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma – the most impressive opera house I've ever seen! Can you imagine a ballerina in a full-length pink tutu gracing the stage in a theatre this exquisite? I can practically hear the applause! The detail is mind-blowing! Just walking through the grand entrance, you feel transported back to a time when ballet was truly the most magical form of art! They say they do have an outstanding ballet program, so I’m on the hunt for tickets – after all, the tutu can’t twirl in Italy without catching a show, can it?
A Spot of Pink Tutu Shopping!Okay, I confess - Rome is a shopper's paradise, even for a ballerina on a budget. I adore Italy's sense of style. Everything just looks so chic! My tutu must-have buys this week are a silk scarf in a delicate shade of blush pink, perfect for adding a touch of ballet sophistication to my outfit. And some delicious gelato, of course! Every trip to Italy has to include some delicious gelato. What else am I going to have for breakfast before ballet class, darling?! 😉
A Bite-Sized Italian FeastOne of the absolute highlights of Rome has to be the food. My travel budget doesn’t extend to the michelin-starred restaurants, but you know I'll tutu-ly be making the most of the delicious pasta dishes. My favourite go-to restaurant this trip is called Il Sostanza, known for its delicious truffle pasta. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! It’s worth a little detour just to sample the food… the smell is so enchanting…
I will be keeping you all en pointe with a full review of all the tutu-ly amazing meals I’ve had – so make sure you check out the latest #PinkTutuRome blog for some foodie inspiration!
Discovering the 'Gladiator' in MeThis week’s post is brought to you with the backdrop of Rome’s Coliseum… the arena which once hosted gladiators in battles to the death! What an amazing slice of history. This majestic place took my breath away – even without the pink tutu I'd planned on wearing (just in case I encountered any wild beasts... safety first!).
As I was listening to the tour guide, I was imagining the roar of the crowd as the gladiators battled to their death. I found myself wanting to be one of the gladiators, twirling my way around that arena, dodging and leaping around my opponents. Maybe in another lifetime? 😉
Ballet Ballet… Everywhere…You can’t step into any cafe in this beautiful city without hearing the most gorgeous Italian opera music, and I feel it seeps into your soul as you meander through the cobblestone streets.
Italy has such an amazing sense of style. I can tutu-ly see why Italy is such an inspiration for ballet fashion… and a ballet dancer. I just can't wait to slip into a beautiful tulle dress and twirl across the Trevi Fountain, making a wish, of course. 😉
*Travel by Train… the Best Option for a Tutu!Of course, a ballet dancer travels by train. Nothing can compete with the romance of the ‘City of Lights’ journey across the Italian countryside… with the gentle sway of the carriages, you'll twirl all the way there! And you can’t beat the views. I love catching the sunset and being whisked through breathtaking landscapes. It just gets me en pointe for an amazing day in Rome!
The train journeys add an extra dose of elegance to the journey. There is something dreamy and romantic about the rhythm of the wheels as you make your way to Rome.
My Pink Tutu Wish…I believe that a little pink tutu can really change the world. Just like those gladiators of old, let's fight for beauty, creativity and all that is pink and fabulous – just don’t forget the sparkle! That’s my pink tutu wish... and we can all make this dream come true, one twinkle at a time…
See You Next Wednesday! That’s all from the Pink Tutu Rome for now. Next Wednesday, I’m taking you to discover Rome’s beautiful Villa Borghese Gallery and Gardens. And hopefully, we’ll be on the hunt for the most tutulicious new outfit… and maybe some tasty Roman pizza, too!
Ciao Bella… Until next time!
