Pink Tutu Rome - #1278 - A Week in the Eternal City!
Ciao Bella! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu enthusiast, and I'm bursting with excitement to share my latest adventure: Rome, Italy!
This is my first trip to the Eternal City and honestly, it’s been a whirlwind of ancient history, delicious pasta, and of course, gorgeous outfits!
As you know, I’m a huge fan of train travel. There's something so romantic about hurtling through the countryside, watching the world whizz by. And the journey from Derbyshire to Rome? Well, let's just say the scenery was utterly breathtaking. Rolling hills, quaint villages, and even a glimpse of the majestic Alps – it was a visual feast for the eyes!
But let’s be honest, the real magic begins when you arrive in Rome.
Day 1: A Whirlwind of History
After checking into my adorable little hotel tucked away in the heart of Rome, I couldn't wait to explore. First on the agenda? The Colosseum! This monumental structure, dating back to 70 AD, simply took my breath away. I couldn’t resist doing a few spins in my pink tutu, imagining the gladiatorial battles that took place here centuries ago!
Next, I made my way to the Roman Forum, a vast expanse of ruins, once the beating heart of the Roman Empire. This was truly stepping back in time! And of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without seeing the Trevi Fountain. It was even more impressive than I imagined – a real fairytale spectacle! I threw in a coin (for good luck, of course!), wishing for another amazing adventure like this one.
As the day drew to a close, I enjoyed a delectable Italian dinner. My stomach was bursting from a heaping plate of pasta, washed down with a delicious glass of wine! It was the perfect ending to my first day.
Day 2: Ballet Bliss
Rome is known for its beautiful architecture and its artistic soul. But you know me, I was on a mission to find a ballet show! And thankfully, this city did not disappoint!
I discovered an exquisite performance at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. The programme was a mix of classics like "Swan Lake" and a modern piece choreographed by a rising star. The dancing was divine, the costumes a dream, and the atmosphere positively magical. My heart simply soared!
After the show, I made my way to a charming café in the heart of the city, savouring a cappuccino and soaking in the romantic atmosphere. It was the perfect evening!
Day 3: Shopping Paradise
Now, you can’t visit Italy without indulging in a little retail therapy, can you? Rome is a fashionista's dream! From luxurious designer boutiques to quirky independent shops, I was spoilt for choice. I picked up some fabulous accessories, a stunning silk scarf, and a pair of statement earrings, perfect for adding a touch of glamour to any outfit!
After a morning of shopping, I decided to treat myself to a little pampering at a charming spa. There's something about indulging in a facial and a massage that just makes you feel amazing. This day was truly a reminder to always spoil yourself, you deserve it!
Day 4: Food, Fashion and a Touch of Magic
What is Italy famous for? Besides breathtaking art and history? Food, darling!
Today, I decided to take a cooking class. It was absolutely fantastic! I learned how to make the most authentic spaghetti carbonara, a dish so rich and creamy it simply melted in my mouth. I even got to try my hand at making pizza from scratch. I’m going to bring these recipes back home and put them to good use!
After lunch, I strolled through the heart of Rome, taking in the cobbled streets, the stunning architecture, and the charming cafes and trattorias. I made a pitstop at a vintage clothing store where I found a stunning pink silk dress. I couldn’t resist buying it. What a gorgeous addition to my wardrobe!
And no trip to Rome is complete without a visit to the Trevi Fountain at night! The way it’s illuminated at night is absolutely magical. It was so peaceful and serene; I could have stood there for hours.
Day 5: Day Trip to Ostia Antica
I love exploring new places, so today, I took a train trip out to Ostia Antica, the ancient Roman port city.
Imagine this: ancient Roman houses, well-preserved mosaics, and breathtaking views overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. It's like stepping into another world!
Ostia Antica is definitely worth a visit if you’re in Rome and you have time for a little day trip. You won’t be disappointed!
Day 6: Roman Feast and a Night of Opera
I knew I had to go to Rome’s famous food market! There was an absolute smorgasbord of Italian delights: cheese, cured meats, fresh fruit, vegetables, spices, pasta and even seafood. I feasted on samples until I couldn’t eat anymore. But trust me, you can’t really have too much of that!
And in the evening, I attended a spectacular performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. It was a magical night, filled with stunning costumes, enchanting music and world-class performers. I was in my element, and let me tell you, there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
Day 7: Final Farewells and Pink Tutu Promises
I love goodbyes as much as I love new adventures. And even though it was hard to say farewell to this beautiful city, I felt such a sense of satisfaction knowing I had truly absorbed all it had to offer.
My pink tutu and I went for a last walk through the charming streets of Rome, stopping to capture one last picture at the Trevi Fountain. And as I tossed my final coin into the water, I whispered a wish: I’ll be back one day, Rome.
Before I boarded the train back to England, I thought about all the experiences I had shared with you in this week-long blog. It’s a testament to how much I love sharing my passion for ballet, for fashion, for travel, and for inspiring you all to find your own adventure. And if it means encouraging just one more person to wear a pink tutu, then I know this trip has been worth every single moment.
So, until next time, darling, keep shining brightly!
Your Emma xx
