Ciao bellas! Emma here, bringing you a splash of pink from the Eternal City! It's been a whirlwind few days exploring the ancient wonders and vibrant streets of Rome, and trust me, my pink tutu is well and truly on point! 😉 This week's #PinkTutuRome is bursting with all things chic, romantic and Italian.
Now, I know what you're thinking. "Rome, a tutu? Seriously, Emma?" But let me tell you, darling, a pink tutu can take you anywhere. Just like those iconic Trevi Fountain coins, it's a lucky charm. And if it's good enough for Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday, it's good enough for this Derbyshire girl!
A Journey By Train: First Stop, The Colosseum
I'm a firm believer in train travel, it's a stylish and relaxing way to see the world, and so I set off from Derbyshire to Rome with my trusty pink carry-on (oh, I always pack a change of outfit for any potential impromptu ballet session). After a smooth journey, I arrived in Rome feeling full of Italian zest.
First up? The Colosseum, obviously! You simply can't be in Rome without paying a visit to this awe-inspiring marvel. Picture this: the warm Italian sun, the ancient ruins, and my pink tutu swirling with the breeze. Let's just say it made for some very memorable Instagram photos. The energy was electric, and you can truly imagine the gladiators and roaring crowds. It's the perfect place to unleash your inner warrior princess, tutu or no tutu!
The Vatican: Art, Architecture and... a Twirling Moment
The next day was a spiritual awakening - literally! The Vatican was, as the name suggests, truly awe-inspiring. I spent hours wandering through the stunning Vatican City, admiring Michelangelo's masterpiece in the Sistine Chapel. The detail, the emotion... breathtaking.
And, of course, I had a tiny tutu moment right there in the courtyard of St. Peter's Basilica. Can you imagine a more picturesque spot for a pirouette? Honestly, you haven't lived until you've twirled in the shadow of a Papal palace!
A Feast of Flavours: From Gelato to Roman Pizza
Let's talk food, darling! Roman cuisine is legendary for a reason. I’ve indulged in creamy, melt-in-your-mouth gelato, the tastiest pizza in all of Italy, and decadent pasta that would make even the most discerning foodie drool. It was a culinary explosion in the best way possible!
My tip for any ballerina visiting Rome? Always save room for dessert! Trust me, the pastries here are simply divine.
Fashion Fever: Roman Style, My Style
Now, being a fashion-obsessed ballerina, Rome's style is everything I could ever want. Think chic and stylish, with a touch of romance. Leather jackets, fabulous silk scarves, and dresses that are the perfect length for showing off those ballerina legs.
I snagged a few new treasures for my wardrobe, from a beautiful vintage dress (which, obviously, pairs perfectly with my tutu) to a sleek leather tote. I simply adore finding unique, independent boutiques to explore. Rome's fashion scene is alive with personality and style - and I'm taking it all in!
Show Time! Ballet at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma
This week, Rome was blessed with a divine ballet performance, and, lucky for me, tickets were within my reach! This is, after all, how I fund my travels, darling! Performing in smaller theatre and street shows helps fuel my wanderlust and pay for these incredible adventures.
The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma is a spectacular building - imagine a pink tutu shimmering under the grand chandeliers. Magical. I caught the most enchanting performance of "Giselle," the story of a beautiful and heartbroken girl who finds herself caught in the world of mythical creatures. It was a masterpiece. Seeing ballet on stage here felt especially powerful, a reminder that there are no limits to your dreams and aspirations.
Finding Peace at The Borghese Gallery
After the ballet, I retreated to the serene Borghese Gallery and Gardens. A world away from the bustling city centre, it offered an oasis of tranquility. Wandering through the picture-perfect gardens, the air filled with the sound of fountains, I took some time to reflect on the incredible journey I'm on, to breathe in the magic of Rome. There's truly no place on earth like it.
Keep Twirling! A Pink Tutu Promise
