Pink Tutu Rome #1322 - A Ballerina's Dream in the Eternal City

Ciao, darling! It’s Emma, your Pink Tutu blogger, reporting live from the heart of Rome! This week’s journey finds me captivated by the magic of this timeless city, a kaleidoscope of ancient history and vibrant life that's just begging to be explored in my favourite shade of pink, of course!

A Train to Remember

The journey itself was an adventure. As usual, I opted for the train, its rhythmic sway perfectly complementing my pre-trip ballet practice. The anticipation for Rome built with each clickety-clack of the tracks, mirroring the rapid beating of my tutu-clad heart.

And just like that, we arrived in Rome. It felt like a scene from a film, with cobblestone streets bathed in warm Italian sunshine and the ancient grandeur of the Colosseum beckoning.

The Colosseum: A Stage for History

Speaking of grand stages, I was blown away by the Colosseum. Imagine, a whole city built within its walls centuries ago! My inner history buff was in awe. Standing amidst the ruins, it was easy to picture gladiators battling under the Roman sun, the crowd’s cheers echoing through the centuries. It felt almost as exciting as a premiere night at the Royal Opera House.

Of course, no visit to Rome would be complete without a bit of fashion inspiration. I had to pay homage to the stylish Roman women, effortlessly blending classic elegance with contemporary trends.

Shopping Adventures

One of the most beautiful aspects of Roman shopping is the emphasis on unique and artisan pieces. I was smitten with the handmade leather bags in the artisan workshops. You just know each piece was lovingly crafted. The bright pink handbag I picked up in the Trastevere neighbourhood will be a perfect match for my favourite blush pink tutu.

Speaking of tutus, let me share a little secret – I'm actually using this trip as an opportunity to learn more about the history of ballet in Italy! Did you know that the birthplace of modern ballet is Naples, a short train journey away? And that Rome has its own thriving ballet scene?

Ballerina’s Paradise

I found myself enchanted by Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. It's a magnificent building, both inside and out, that holds a place in my heart, not only for its architectural beauty but also its vibrant theatrical history. Imagine the costumes, the music, the grand performances! I can’t wait to catch a show at the Opera House – and I've already spotted the perfect pink tutu to wear.

A Little Bit of Romance

Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without a touch of romance. The city’s streets feel imbued with a sense of history and intrigue, like a captivating tale unfolding at every corner.

Every narrow alleyway whispered tales of lovers' encounters, of emperors and their mistresses, and of passionate artistic creation. It’s no wonder the city is called the "Eternal City."

The sheer energy of Rome feels infectious. You can sense it in the chatter on every street corner, in the rhythm of life unfolding in the piazza, in the vibrant laughter of families enjoying meals under the warm Italian sky.

And speaking of families, Rome's a city where history comes alive for children too. The museums and historic sites here, even with their grandness, still manage to spark children’s imagination.

A Touch of Magic for the Young Ones

My favourite discovery was the Borghese Gallery. It’s not just beautiful inside, with statues, paintings, and frescoes. But the park that surrounds it – a real, fairytale landscape – felt as though it’s straight out of one of my favourite ballet storybooks! Imagine – fountains, ancient trees, hidden pathways, and the Villa Borghese, a magnificent structure perched upon a hill overlooking the city! The perfect location for a ballet photoshoot.

Rome has been a constant delight, full of artistic expression, culinary delights, and beautiful vistas.

The magic of Rome truly resides in its vibrant, life-affirming atmosphere. Whether it's strolling through the picturesque Trastevere, or watching the sunset cast golden hues across the city's rooftops, every moment here feels like a graceful pirouette in the spotlight.

As my trip in Rome concludes, I’m already counting down the days until my next adventure in the city. Rome's like a beautiful tutu - it never fails to bring me joy.

Until then, keep twirling, Emma x

A little about today:

  • Today, October 7th, I was lucky to be a part of a very special event, a fundraising gala organised by a local ballet school here in Rome. I was thrilled to be performing as a guest ballerina, sharing my passion for dance with the community and, of course, spreading the joy of the pink tutu!
  • Rome was in bloom today! I saw an exquisite display of red, orange, and yellow dahlias at a street market in Trastevere. Inspired by the vibrancy of the flowers, I bought a little sprig to adorn my favourite blush-pink tutu, and to take back with me as a beautiful memento of this vibrant city.

I hope this blog post inspires you to explore your own adventures. Don’t be afraid to embrace your own personal style, just like me in my pink tutus. Whether you’re a fashionista, a history buff, or a travel enthusiast, there’s a piece of Rome waiting to be discovered just for you.

Ciao, Emma xx
