Pink Tutu Rome: Post #1342 - "A Roman Holiday in Pink!"

Ciao, darlings! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, back from the magical city of Rome! I’ve just returned from a whirlwind week in this iconic Italian metropolis, and I'm bubbling over with excitement to share all the glorious pink, the stunning sights, and the delicious pasta (oh, the pasta!) with you all!

Remember my motto? "Make the world a more pink, tutu-ful place!" And Rome, it turns out, was the perfect playground to spread the love of all things pink and twirly!

Taking the Train to Romance

I’m a sucker for train journeys, especially through Europe. Something about gliding across the landscape, watching the scenery blur by, and reading a good book, is utterly blissful. And there’s just something magical about arriving in a new city, a pink-tutu-clad whirlwind of excitement, ready to explore.

This week's train journey from Derbyshire was no exception. I travelled through the picturesque Swiss countryside, feeling incredibly chic in my powder-pink suit and, of course, a matching tutu – a delicate cloud of tulle billowing behind me like a ballet dancer's dream. I swear, people just stopped and stared! And with every admiring glance, my heart swelled with pride, spreading a bit of pink-tutu-tastic joy along the way.

The Pinkest City on Earth (well, almost!)

The moment I stepped off the train and breathed in the Roman air, I knew this trip was going to be amazing. The energy, the buzz, the history… it was intoxicating! And it definitely lived up to its reputation!

While Rome doesn't have quite as much pink as I would have hoped (pink isn’t the primary colour on most Italian building, you know!), it certainly is a vibrant and beautiful city. Every street corner was a photo opportunity, and every street was teeming with fascinating architecture, ancient ruins, and, of course, charming Italian charm.

Pink in Rome – Finding my Ballet Inspiration

I have a confession – this trip was actually inspired by the famous Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, one of the oldest and most renowned opera houses in the world. They were hosting a performance of Swan Lake, one of my absolute favourite ballets, and I simply couldn't resist the opportunity to experience such a prestigious production in such a breathtaking venue!

Of course, my pre-performance prep was a pink tutu-fest. It's not Rome without a touch of la dolce vita and a bit of pink sparkle!

And oh my, the theatre itself! The moment I walked into the Opera House, my jaw literally dropped. The grand architecture, the elaborate gilded decor, the air of excitement and anticipation, it was utterly enchanting.

The performance? Magnificent! The costumes, the choreography, the music – it was simply breathtaking. Seeing Swan Lake danced in such an iconic setting brought tears to my eyes. It was everything I hoped it would be, and more.

Rome – Beyond Ballet

While the ballet was my main inspiration for visiting Rome, it was just the beginning! From the magnificent Colosseum to the awe-inspiring Vatican City, I explored every nook and cranny of this ancient city.

Here’s a glimpse into my Roman adventure:

  • Exploring Ancient History: Stepping back in time, I spent an entire day marvelling at the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Palatine Hill. The sheer scale of these ancient structures left me speechless, and I was instantly transported back centuries, picturing the gladiatorial games and the vibrant Roman life that once unfolded within these very walls.

  • Shopping ‘til I Dropped: Naturally, a visit to Rome wasn't complete without indulging in some shopping therapy. The boutiques and department stores in Rome are absolutely fabulous, filled with luxurious Italian designs, unique souvenirs, and exquisite fashion. I couldn't resist snagging a few gorgeous pieces of jewellery, a beautiful silk scarf, and, of course, a stunning new pink tutu!

  • Discovering the Art of Gelato: You know me, I’m all about indulging in the finer things! What's a trip to Italy without savouring some heavenly gelato? The streets were lined with charming gelaterias, tempting me with their creamy, delicious creations. From classic vanilla and hazelnut to more exotic flavours like fig and lavender, I tried them all, indulging in a bit of pink-tutu-approved dessert delight with every spoonful!

  • The Taste of Tradition: You simply can't leave Rome without indulging in the delicious food, and oh, let me tell you, I did indulge! Pasta carbonara, tiramisu, pizza margherita - these culinary delights, enjoyed in charming cafes and family-run trattorias, will forever hold a special place in my heart! And, let's face it, even pasta tastes better in pink! (Don't worry, I paired my pink tutu with a sleek black jumpsuit for all my culinary adventures!)

Rome Through Pink-Tinted Glasses

Rome was absolutely incredible – every corner offered something new and exciting.

Of course, this being the Pink Tutu Rome blog, you can bet I added a touch of pink wherever I went! From my outfit (pink tulle skirt, black blazer, bright pink stilettos) to the cocktails (pink grapefruit negronis, please!), I injected my signature colour into the beautiful cityscape. It definitely turned some heads!

I even attempted a "pink takeover" at the Trevi Fountain, tossing a coin with a pink wish in mind (of course). The legend goes that tossing a coin into the fountain guarantees your return to Rome – but throwing in a pink coin ensures your return to the most vibrant, pink-filled Rome imaginable, right?

Until Next Week

That's a wrap on this week's Pink Tutu Rome adventures! If you've ever dreamed of visiting Rome, make sure you add it to your list, darlings. And make sure to pack a pink tutu - a dash of pink can transform even the most iconic landmarks into a pink wonderland!
