Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella!
Post 1397: Wednesday 2022-03-16
Ciao, darlings! It's Emma here, back from the Eternal City with my trusty pink tutu in tow! It feels like ages since I've been able to flit through a European city, the rhythmic click-clack of my pointe shoes on cobblestone streets a symphony of its own. As always, Rome never fails to capture my heart – it's like a fairytale with a history stretching back millennia. And let's be honest, who can resist the call of pizza, pasta and all those divine, hand-crafted shoes?!
This week's adventures have been a whirlwind of pink, pasta, and… pantomimes? You'll just have to read on to discover more about that!
Trainspotting for the Soul:
I can’t deny, train travel is my happy place. It's where I feel most free – floating between Derbyshire and all the captivating places on my ever-expanding list! The journey down from London was filled with chatter, a smidgen of excitement, and the usual 'who-has-the-best-train-view' contest (I think mine was pretty spectacular). After all, isn't there something undeniably chic about sipping tea with a view of the English countryside as you speed towards new horizons?
Rome Sweet Rome: Where the Fashion Never Stops
The moment I arrived in Rome, I knew it was going to be one of those magical trips. The city was bathed in golden sunlight, the air buzzed with excitement, and the scent of jasmine clung to the wind like a beautiful dream. Naturally, my first stop had to be the shops!
Forget your predictable beige and grey – Rome embraces color with a gusto that makes my ballerina heart skip a beat! It's a visual feast of vivid silks, emerald greens, scarlet reds, and of course, shades of pink galore. I've never seen such a beautiful display of textures, prints and styles! From flowing Grecian dresses in shimmering turquoise to hand-painted scarves in bold geometric patterns, every corner seemed to be bursting with the kind of inspiration I need to add a little pizazz to my wardrobe.
Dancing into the Night: A Ballet Showcase and Beyond
Okay, so I couldn't resist a little ballet in Rome. I mean, it's the city of art, culture and everything beautiful! And I've found that ballet performances seem to follow me everywhere – even into the heart of Italy.
This time, the stage was set for the Rome Opera, the ornate setting itself adding a touch of grandeur. It felt like stepping back into history! There was a breathtaking rendition of 'La Bayadere,' the choreography elegant and expressive, with the kind of dazzling costumes I'd dream of performing in myself!
As always, I loved spotting other tutu wearers in the crowd. It’s an instant connection, an unspoken language understood between fellow twirling souls. And after the show? A little late-night wander around the charming piazzas with a glass of local wine (with just a dash of Aperol to add a touch of Italian flair, naturally).
The Art of Shopping: Vintage Treasures and a Fashion Fetish
The next morning, my quest began in earnest. No, I didn't just go shopping… I embarked on a veritable shopping pilgrimage.
I stumbled upon a hidden vintage store tucked away in the heart of Trastevere. Imagine a labyrinth of hand-stitched treasures – old beaded purses, silk scarves with floral motifs, and those beautiful velvet hats that just scream 1950s chic.
Of course, a visit to Rome wouldn't be complete without finding some shoes that would make Cinderella jealous! My trusty pointe shoes can conquer any cobblestone, but they couldn't possibly handle the beauty of a good old-fashioned Roman heel. The delicate craftsmanship, the supple leather, and the colour… let’s just say my shopping bag ended up pretty heavy with footwear worthy of a Roman princess!
A Pink Tutu’s Guide to Roman Delights: Pasta, Pizza and Pantomimes!
Rome truly lives up to its reputation of being a foodie’s paradise. The food… it's divine! Pasta al pesto, Roman-style pizza (seriously, you HAVE to try it!), perfectly-baked bread dripping with olive oil, and delicious, juicy tomatoes (yes, I even picked some myself, and no, it's not as embarrassing as you might think!)
Speaking of delightful surprises, who would have guessed that I would find myself in the middle of a captivating pantomime? Okay, so maybe 'pantomime' is a slight exaggeration, but I stumbled across this enchanting puppet show in a bustling square. The characters were brilliantly crafted, the story whimsical and endearing, and even the Italian phrases that I couldn't quite understand added to the charm.
I'd call this a perfectly romantic night. In a beautiful city, a magical ballet, delicious food and a pantomime of a lifetime. I had a wonderful evening filled with laughter and beauty. It doesn’t get more magical than that.
A Little Piece of Italy for Your Wardrobe:
Back in my London flat, I'm already planning my next Italian escapade. Maybe Florence? Venice? Each city is waiting to be explored through a pink tutu's eyes, with each stop offering a new adventure in style and discovery!
But Rome will forever hold a special place in my heart. A city where I embraced my love of ballet and fashion, discovered new hidden gems and danced my way to a fabulous new pair of shoes.
And don't forget – everyone can embrace the beauty and power of a pink tutu! It's more than just a piece of clothing. It's a reminder that life is about embracing your unique self, celebrating your individuality and having a little bit of fun!
So, dear readers, tell me: have you ever been to Rome? What's your favorite Italian city? And of course, what’s your go-to outfit when you want to express your own unique style?
Ciao for now!
Emma
