Pink Tutu Rome: Post 1452 - Ciao Bella, Roma!
Wednesday 5th April 2023
Buongiorno, my lovely pink tutu-loving friends!
Today is the day – the day we set foot in the Eternal City, the place of emperors, gladiators, and oh, so much pasta! I’m talking about Rome, darling, the Italian capital and a place I’ve dreamt of visiting ever since I saw the film “Roman Holiday” as a little girl.
I may be a ballerina from Derbyshire, but there’s a bit of a romantic in me – a penchant for all things glamorous and old-world. Rome fits the bill perfectly.
Getting here was half the fun, of course. It was a whirlwind journey through the heart of Europe – a scenic train ride from Florence to Rome, whizzing past rolling countryside, charming villages, and vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see. It’s always a thrill for me to watch the world roll past the train window. Every scene is like a painting come to life, and my fellow passengers, dressed in their own unique styles, add their own artistic touches to the canvas.
The train ride felt a bit like stepping into a time capsule – and that's what Rome feels like, too! The buildings are breathtaking, covered in centuries of history, stories whispered through faded frescoes and weathered stone. The energy here is electric – buzzing with the voices of vendors selling gelato and local artisans showcasing their wares. The scent of fresh pastries wafts through the air, and the taste of Italian espresso on your tongue makes you feel instantly more chic.
As I stepped off the train and into Rome's Termini Station, I felt a sense of giddy excitement, like I was a character in a ballet set, a ballerina ready to explore a world brimming with colour and romance. My pink tutu, shimmering under the warm Italian sun, felt as light and breezy as a butterfly taking flight, an appropriate outfit for this fantastical city.
Of course, what's a Pink Tutu Rome adventure without some fashion flair? You know I couldn't resist popping into a few boutiques near my hotel. I found myself a gorgeous coral silk scarf and a pair of pearl earrings with delicate, floral accents – a must-have for my wardrobe while I’m here. And my favourite discovery? A whimsical floral patterned dress with a full, billowing skirt that just screams "ballerina in Rome". It's a vision of sunshine, roses, and the Italian romance I feel buzzing around me!
As I strolled through the cobbled streets, I couldn’t help but notice that Rome itself seemed to wear a pink tutu too – it’s like the entire city was designed with me in mind. From the terracotta rooftops to the dusky blush of the ancient walls at sunset, this city was bursting with feminine charm.
Tonight is all about exploring. We're planning on having dinner at an authentic Italian trattoria near the Trevi Fountain – I’ve been dreaming about it ever since I was little, the image of the fountain, its waters sparkling under the moon, is almost as iconic as a ballerina leaping across a stage. Then, tomorrow, it's a visit to the Colosseum! I can practically hear the roars of the gladiators now… or maybe I'm just daydreaming about the thunderous applause of the ballet audience at one of my own performances.
Now, let me give you a little bit of a sneak peek into the upcoming Pink Tutu Rome posts:
Wednesday 12th April: I'm dreaming of the Borghese Gallery, an art gallery overflowing with beautiful sculptures and paintings by Bernini and Caravaggio, among others. I’m excited to be surrounded by artistic inspiration and envision how this iconic building would transform into a grand ballet stage.
Wednesday 19th April: You know I couldn’t resist attending a ballet show in Rome! I’m hoping to see a performance of “Romeo and Juliet”, my favourite ballet. Maybe I'll even meet the dancers and take a photo in my pink tutu - it's never too early to share the joy of ballet with new friends!
Wednesday 26th April: My adventures in Rome take me to the Vatican, exploring the beautiful Sistine Chapel and learning about its historical significance. This masterpiece will be a treasure trove of creative inspiration for my future ballets.
And remember, darling, wear pink tutus wherever you go. You’ll be surprised by the joy it brings you, and the compliments it garners – in the shops, on the street, in museums and galleries, on train journeys. I am so excited for this Roman adventure! Keep following my journey here every Wednesday, on Pink Tutu Rome. Ciao, for now!
