Pink Tutu Rome: #1468 - Bonjour, Bella Roma!
Well hello there, darling readers! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed traveller, and I'm absolutely bursting with excitement to tell you about my Roman adventures.
This week, I’ve been whisked away to the Eternal City, a place that's been calling to me for ages. Rome is just so full of history and beauty, and of course, there's endless fashion inspiration around every corner. And I must say, it’s just as magical as I’d dreamt.
To kick off this week's blog post, I must share my secret: I travel by train. I know some of you think I’m a little bit old-fashioned, but there’s something so romantic and glamorous about gliding through the countryside. Plus, I get a chance to enjoy the scenery, do some writing (hello, new blog post!) and listen to some classic ballet music, all whilst wearing my trusty pink tutu, of course. Don’t get me wrong, I do love a good flight, but the thrill of a train journey across Europe cannot be beaten.
Speaking of excitement, I arrived in Rome and was immediately swept away by the energy of this extraordinary city. The first thing I did? Well, obviously, a shopping trip! I've found a real treasure trove of fabulous stores and boutiques, full of beautiful Italian fabrics and stunning designer pieces. Naturally, my pink tutu found its way into all the fitting rooms – let’s face it, a splash of pink never hurt anyone!
But I couldn't be in Rome and just go shopping. So I did what any self-respecting ballerina would do: I headed straight to Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Oh my goodness, it was an absolutely breathtaking experience! I can’t even describe the grandeur and the stunning interior design of this magnificent theatre. I got goosebumps just walking through the entrance hall. This incredible venue held a ballet performance, showcasing the artistry and passion of some of Italy’s most talented dancers. I felt completely swept away by the drama, the music and the stories they told with their movements. The show ended with the entire theatre erupting in applause, and I just couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed by a feeling of complete joy and satisfaction.
Roman Adventures – Day 1
This morning, I started my day at Campo de’ Fiori, a buzzing market packed full of fresh produce, artisan cheeses and beautiful flowers. I lost myself in the colours and aromas, and I can't resist a little photo shoot in the heart of this energetic, local market. Naturally, I was in my favourite pink tutu – you've got to get into character for your photo ops, after all.
In the afternoon, I set off on a tour of Rome's iconic sights – the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Roman Forum. The scale of these ancient structures just takes your breath away! Standing on the historic cobbles of the Roman Forum, surrounded by the ghosts of Emperors and ancient gladiators, made me feel utterly mesmerized. It felt like being transported back in time to witness the birth of this remarkable civilization.
As evening descended, I strolled around Piazza Navona, the heart of the city. I watched street performers, artists displaying their masterpieces, and tourists soaking up the atmosphere. I could have stayed there all night, just watching and taking it all in.
This vibrant and enchanting city seems to be brimming with the passion and creative energy that fuels the world’s artists and performers. Just looking around Rome and enjoying a delicious gelato or coffee is a delight in itself! But it’s the history of this place and its strong connection to the artistic legacy of classical culture, that sets it apart as truly unique.
Food, glorious food!
No visit to Rome is complete without an abundance of delicious food experiences! I’ve been indulging in pasta, pizza, and of course, all sorts of gelato flavours! My favourites? Well, let’s just say my favourite colour extends to my favourite gelato – you can’t beat a delicious ‘Strawberry and Cream’ gelato whirl!
As I wander through Rome, I'm drawn to the cobbled streets lined with brightly coloured cafes and shops bursting with charm. It’s no wonder the locals seem so effortlessly stylish - they’ve got fashion at their fingertips! I've spotted a number of vintage shops and small boutiques. Naturally, a stylish pink tutu is a must for these explorations! This place is truly my kind of paradise.
More adventures are in store!
Rome has so much to offer, I simply can’t wait for what tomorrow has in store. I plan to explore the Vatican City, visit the Vatican Museums and look at some of the most iconic artwork by the great Masters.
I’m determined to bring back a bit of Roman glamour to share with you in next week's blog post. And I’ll be doing it all, of course, in my favourite pink tutu, so be prepared for more pictures. After all, if we’re going to conquer the world, it’s got to be in a tutu!
Ciao Bella! Emma xx
