Pink Tutu Rome: #1486

Hello my darlings! It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to the Eternal City, Rome! It's hard to believe that just last Wednesday I was tucking into a delicious Derbyshire Bakewell tart with a cuppa, dreaming of warmer climes and cobbled streets. Now, here I am, sun-kissed and still buzzing from all the incredible experiences I've had, wishing I could turn back time and do it all over again!

Rome, oh Rome, you stole my heart. From the moment I stepped onto the train from Milan (I must say, I absolutely adore travelling by train – there's something so magical about watching the landscape blur by, listening to the rhythmic clatter of the tracks) I felt the romance of the place seep into my very being.

A Touch of Pink in the Eternal City

It's impossible to visit a city as historically rich and culturally vibrant as Rome without being swept up in the whirlwind of sights, sounds, and smells. I even wore my favourite blush-pink tutu, adding a dash of feminine flair to the ancient cobbled streets and grandiose monuments!

I know, I know. You might be thinking "a tutu in Rome?" But hear me out! A tutu isn't just a dance garment, it's a statement, an expression of joy and grace, a symbol of dreams. And wouldn't it be amazing to see every girl, every woman in Rome twirling down the Via dei Condotti or the Spanish Steps in a pink tutu? Now, that would be truly enchanting!

Ballet Delights in the Heart of Italy

Of course, no trip to Italy would be complete without indulging in my true love - ballet. Rome boasts a thriving ballet scene, and I was thrilled to find a beautiful, intimate theatre hosting "La Fille Mal Gardée" - one of my absolute favourite ballets! The stage was breathtaking, the costumes exquisite, and the dancing truly exquisite!

I'm quite the hopeless romantic, and "La Fille Mal Gardée" with its tale of forbidden love and playful mischief just melted my heart. The final scene, with its grand celebration of joy and forgiveness, left me grinning from ear to ear, feeling utterly joyous.

Shopping for Style, Culture and Fashion

Rome is a haven for the sartorially inclined, and I was certainly not going to miss out on the shopping scene! I lost myself for hours wandering through the bustling shops on the Via del Corso, breathing in the aroma of leather, silk, and artisan crafts. It's simply irresistible!

I treated myself to a beautiful pink silk scarf with delicate gold embroidery (it'll look stunning draped over a black evening gown), a pair of intricate filigree earrings (perfect for adding a touch of delicate detail to my favourite ballerina dresses), and, of course, a gorgeous pair of blush-pink ballerina flats!

But it wasn't just about the designer labels. I discovered a small artisan workshop nestled in the cobblestone backstreets of the Trastevere neighbourhood where a talented artisan creates unique handmade bags, purses and wallets from beautiful, vibrant textiles. I couldn't resist a gorgeous fuchsia-coloured handbag – a stunning pop of colour against the muted tones of Roman architecture!

Pasta, Pizza and Gelato – Oh My!

No visit to Rome is complete without indulging in the culinary delights of Italy. Pasta, pizza, and gelato – it's simply irresistible.

My favourite was the traditional spaghetti alla carbonara, the perfectly creamy, slightly cheesy sauce was heavenly. And, of course, I had to try the famous pizza, topped with all manner of delicious ingredients! It was pure indulgence – and who can say no to a perfect thin, crisp base topped with oozing melted mozzarella?

To top it all off, there were mountains of gelato, piled high in delicious scoops and served with a generous helping of whipped cream. I have to admit, I tried a rather excessive amount of flavours, but can you really blame me? I couldn't resist a scoop of stracciatella (it’s simply divine with its creamy vanilla base studded with juicy, dark chocolate bits), a generous scoop of pistachio, and a tiny helping of zesty limoncello sorbet!

A Breathtaking Sunset over the Colosseum

Rome at sunset is truly breathtaking! The warm orange glow bathes the ancient city in a soft, golden light, casting long shadows and highlighting the details of the magnificent buildings.

I stood transfixed, watching the sky transform, while sipping on a chilled glass of local wine. And as I watched the sunset paint the sky, I realised how lucky I was to be experiencing all of this, to be living in this magical moment. It's moments like this, surrounded by beauty and history, that make life feel truly incredible.

The Spirit of Rome - A Touch of Magic in Every Corner

Rome has this wonderful air about it, a sense of magic that weaves itself into everything. Whether it's the romantic murmur of a fountain, the gentle sway of a cypress tree against a terracotta wall, the sound of laughter echoing through the piazzas or the taste of fresh-baked focaccia wafting from a nearby bakery.

You feel it in the cobbled streets, the ancient ruins, the churches, the gardens - Rome whispers its stories to you. It tells you tales of gladiators, emperors, artists, poets, lovers and dreamers.

And, of course, there is a touch of magic in the simple pleasure of a walk in a Roman park, a warm, breezy afternoon in the Borghese Gardens, watching the colours change and the sunbeams dance through the leaves, accompanied by the sweet chirping of birds, the soft, gurgling music of a fountain and the delicate scent of jasmine.

A City Full of Secrets

Rome is a city of secrets, hidden stories, and whispers of a glorious past. Every corner holds a story waiting to be uncovered.

And while I'm still brimming with memories of my time in Rome, I know there's so much more to discover. I can't wait to explore the city again and uncover more of its hidden treasures.

And remember my darlings, the secret to finding that special magic in every city, is simply opening your heart to the experience. And maybe, just maybe, adding a touch of pink, a sprinkle of feminine charm and the elegant twirl of a pink tutu can’t hurt either!

Stay fabulous! And until next Wednesday, Ciao!

Emma
