Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 17th July 2024 - Ciao Bella! 🇮🇹

Post 1519

Ciao, darlings! I’m Emma, your resident Pink Tutu enthusiast, and I’m back from my whirlwind trip to the Eternal City, Rome. Buckle up because I've got so much to tell you about the glitz, glamour, and, of course, pink tutus!

This week's post marks a special milestone - my 1519th blog post! It feels like just yesterday I started this crazy journey, documenting my life through the lens of my beloved pink tutus. And it all began in a tiny village in Derbyshire, where I’d dream of dancing my way through the cobbled streets of Rome, swirling in a voluminous tutu under the Italian sunshine.

Now, Rome has always been a city of dreams for me. Imagine it – cobblestone streets, fountains, ancient ruins, delicious pasta, and oh, the gelato! But there’s also a thriving cultural scene. And you know what my favourite things are? Theatre, opera, and ballet. I was practically hopping with excitement to see what the Italian stage had in store!

As you know, I fund my travels through ballet. So before setting off, I secured a few incredible gigs – a solo performance at the Buxton Opera House, a fundraising show for the Derbyshire Dance School, and even a cameo appearance in a local theatre production of "The Nutcracker." Each performance was a dream, allowing me to indulge my passion for dance while keeping my travel fund plump.

So, with a full dance card and my trusty pink tutu packed in my suitcase (the most fabulous vintage one from a Parisian antique store, of course), I boarded the train from London, ready to experience the magic of Rome!

A Travel Tip from Emma: Always choose a train when travelling – it’s so relaxing! It allows you to soak up the views and gaze out of the window, inspiring creativity and daydreams. It's my little bit of magic. And don't forget the snacks!

Arriving in Rome – Fashion and Fun

Rome was a vision! Stepping onto the train station platform, I felt an immediate energy coursing through me – a mix of history, culture, and just a hint of chaos. It felt like something out of a film set. The station was buzzing with people – everyone rushing about, their suitcases clattering on the floor.

But for me, it was the perfect setting to debut my new travelling ensemble. I had meticulously planned this outfit, after all, it was Rome! It was the epitome of girly elegance: a gorgeous dusty pink satin skirt, a silky, blush-toned blouse that billowed softly in the breeze, and of course, my statement piece - a sparkling pink tulle tutu! It had tiny pearl details that caught the sunlight and fluttered around my ankles as I walked.

I couldn’t resist a quick Instagram photoshoot in the station's grand hall – after all, a picture is worth a thousand words, and this moment was pure magic. I’ve been a fan of using Instagram as a visual diary since the very beginning. It's all about showcasing my style, sharing travel tips, and connecting with like-minded individuals around the world.

The Splendour of the Teatro dell’Opera

Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without experiencing the renowned Teatro dell’Opera. Imagine – velvet seating, intricate chandeliers casting shimmering light on a majestic stage. A shiver went down my spine as I entered the auditorium!

My excitement hit fever pitch as the orchestra started to play – the sound was breathtaking. And the performers! Their costumes were absolutely magnificent – flowing fabrics and glittering jewels. The entire evening was an explosion of colour, light, and drama.

I even had the pleasure of meeting the prima ballerina after the performance – what a kind and generous woman! She encouraged me to keep pursuing my dreams and even complimented me on my pink tutu, saying it was a welcome splash of colour amidst the traditionally formal setting.

I realised that this experience, the beautiful costumes, the passionate performances – it was everything I had dreamt of.

Shopping Spree in Rome: All Things Pink!

Rome is not just about ancient history, you know. It's also a fashion lover's paradise! There were stores galore brimming with all sorts of chic pieces, But of course, my mission was to find the most extraordinary, most stunning, most... PINK outfit!

Let me tell you, darling, Rome delivered! I stumbled upon this divine little boutique nestled in a cobblestone alley. They had rows of the most delicious pastel shades, frothy lace, and vibrant prints you could imagine – pure sartorial heaven. I must confess, my spending limit might have been breached slightly, but hey, who can resist such an extravagant display of femininity? I picked up a pair of elegant pink stilettos that would have even Cinderella jealous, a fluffy pink sweater with a playful pompom on the shoulder, and, of course, a brand-new tutu. This one was a soft lilac shade with delicate tulle ruffles, the perfect addition to my ever-expanding pink tutu collection.

Rome's Culinary Delights

Let's be honest, no trip to Italy would be complete without some epic food adventures. Rome did not disappoint. The aroma of freshly baked bread, the simmering scent of spices in every trattoria, the tantalising sight of rows upon rows of mouth-watering pizzas – I practically lived on pasta and gelato for a week! And don't get me started on the creamy cappuccinos – they were pure bliss, especially enjoyed on a breezy afternoon overlooking the Trevi Fountain.

Seeing the sights: The Colosseum, The Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain

Rome’s ancient architecture left me breathless! There's something deeply humbling about walking through the Roman Forum and seeing the grandeur of the Colosseum. It feels like a physical connection to a different era. Each building is a monument to human achievement, and a stark reminder that even the most impressive structures eventually fade away.

Standing in front of the Trevi Fountain was just magic. I threw a coin over my shoulder (of course, I wished for endless dancing opportunities!) while soaking up the grandeur of this magnificent sight. Every stone, every intricate carving seemed to whisper stories of emperors, gladiators, and ordinary citizens living their lives amidst these architectural marvels.

Dance in the Streets: Roman Style!

And just like that, it was time to say farewell to Rome. As the train pulled out of the station, I couldn’t help but feel a touch of sadness. I had tasted the magic of the Eternal City, witnessed its breathtaking beauty, and made memories I will cherish forever.

But this isn't goodbye. I know, deep down, I'll be back soon – perhaps to see a ballet at the Teatro dell’Opera, or to indulge in another shopping spree. And, of course, I’ll be back to show the world that Rome looks even better with a pink tutu!

Until next time, darlings. Stay pink, stay fabulous, and keep dancing!
