Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! (Blog Post #1534)

Wednesday, October 30, 2024

Buongiorno, darling tutu wearers! It’s Emma here, back from the Eternal City, and let me tell you, Rome is living up to its name! This week's adventures have been absolutely pinkalicious, and I’ve been channeling my inner Audrey Hepburn, spinning through the streets in my fuchsia tulle masterpiece. (Who wouldn't? It’s practically a necessity in this glamorous city.)

A Train Journey Fit for a Ballerina

Now, as you all know, I love a good train journey. It’s the perfect time to settle into my reading (currently devouring a fabulous historical novel about Roman gladiators!), practice my pirouettes in the aisle (just a little pirouette, darling! I wouldn’t want to inconvenience anyone), and most importantly, people-watch. And believe me, Italy provides endless inspiration for outfit ideas! My new favourite combo: a turquoise cardigan with a silver, sequin-encrusted tutu. Just wait until you see the pictures, darlings!

Roman Gladiators…and Glamazon Fashion!

This weekend, I finally fulfilled my dream of visiting the Colosseum! The history, the energy, the sheer size of it…it was truly awe-inspiring. The Colosseum is just about as dramatic as a ballet performance, except, instead of a prima ballerina, you’ve got gladiators fighting for their lives. Now, I’m not one to glamourise violence, but it did remind me that ballet, just like these historical battles, is about pushing boundaries, striving for perfection, and expressing oneself with passion. And yes, the whole scene did provide a stellar back-drop for a couple of ballet-inspired photographs - one with my trusty pink tutu trailing behind me amongst the ancient ruins, another with me poised in a demi-plié by the statue of the Emperor Domitian, a real moment of tutu-clad glory!

A Pink Paradise in the City of Seven Hills

I’ve already lost track of how many cobbled alleyways, bustling markets, and hidden squares I’ve wandered through in the past few days, each one a miniature piece of Italian magic. The fashion, of course, has been a dream – think floral prints, leather jackets, chic berets, and - oh my gosh! – the shoes! The Italians, darlings, they have a way with footwear! I've found some divine vintage pumps in a charming shop in Trastevere, complete with floral detailing and an adorable kitten heel – perfect for strolling along the Tiber River, catching the evening sun reflecting on the water. And trust me, the perfect shoes are a must when your days involve hours of exploration!

A Night at the Opera, My Dear

Tonight is a night for grandeur. A night for feathers, sequins, and a whole lot of drama – we’re going to see a performance of Tosca at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma! Oh darling, I've been dying to see Tosca. I’ve even ordered a beautiful scarlet gown, a statement necklace (courtesy of a charming vintage store near the Pantheon!), and the grandest of all – a scarlet opera cloak – to add a touch of dramatic flair! To make this experience even more authentic, we've picked up tickets from a local ticket stand, adding an air of impromptu glamour to the whole evening. Think 'La Traviata' meets 'Pretty Woman', but with an Italian twist, darlings! I'm even bringing my own personal ballerina touch, with a beautiful red tutu tucked inside my gown.

Pizza and Pastelitos: A Delicious Romp Through Roman Delights

Of course, every trip to Italy wouldn’t be complete without sampling the local delicacies! Oh my goodness, the pizza! So thin and crispy, with the most delicious tomato sauce. I’m sure I've been through more than my fair share of ‘Pizza margherita’ and even sampled the Roman speciality ‘Pizza bianca’.

And let’s not forget the divine 'Gelato'! The Italian's have truly mastered the art of making gelato, creamy and delicious. Yesterday, I discovered the cutest little cafe in the Piazza Navona - think bright yellow awnings, wrought iron tables, and rows of tempting pastelitos, each one a miniature work of art. Honestly, darlings, you'll find a whole kaleidoscope of gelato colours to tantalise your tastebuds. My personal favourites are the Strawberry Sorbet, lemon gelato, and – just for that special treat – the delicious ‘pistachio’. Every mouthful is pure joy!

Pink Tutu Inspiration: Spreading the Joy, One Tutu at a Time

The wonderful thing about Rome, my darling tutu wearers, is that it encourages a kind of ‘anything goes’ approach to life. From the fashion, to the art, to the architecture, it’s a city of endless possibilities, just like ballet. And you know what? My ‘Wear a Pink Tutu’ campaign seems to be catching on.

Today, while I was trying to capture the perfect selfie in front of the Trevi Fountain (my tutu certainly got some stares, darling!), a little girl, maybe six or seven years old, walked up to me and said, ‘Your tutu is so beautiful! Can I wear a pink tutu like you one day?’ I told her, of course she can, and she squealed with delight. It was the most wonderful affirmation I've received so far. And in this very pink and magical city, it makes me feel even more inspired to spread the message: embrace your individuality, be bold, be beautiful, and let your spirit shine - a little bit like a tutu that twirls with joy!

What to Expect Next Week on Pink-Tutu.com

Next week on Pink-Tutu.com (every Wednesday, don’t forget!), I’m going to be talking about my incredible visit to the Vatican Museum and the breathtaking Sistine Chapel, the history and culture of ballet in Italy, and of course, sharing more fashion tips from this extraordinary city.

I can't wait to tell you all about it! Until then, happy twirling, darlings!

Yours in pink,

Emma xoxo
