Pink Tutu Rome: #1536 - Under the Tuscan Sun, and in a Pink Tutu, of Course!
Ciao bellas! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood Pink Tutu blogger, reporting live from the Eternal City - Rome, Italy! It's Wednesday, so you know what that means... it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome adventure!
It feels like only yesterday I was waltzing through the cobbled streets of Derbyshire, dreaming of cobbled streetsā¦well, a lot more cobbled streets than we have in my home county! You know how I love a good train journey, and arriving in Rome after a picturesque ride through the Italian countryside was truly magical. Even more magical was being whisked away by my wonderful friends, Serena and Marco, who promised to show me the real Rome, and who am I to argue?!
Day One - Dolce Vita in the Heart of Rome
Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without a visit to the Colosseum, so that was first on the agenda. Let me tell you, the grandeur of this ancient structure took my breath away. As I twirled, feeling like a ballerina amidst the crumbling stones, I imagined gladiators battling it out, emperors cheering from the sidelines, andā¦well, honestly, I imagined myself being crowned the first ballerina of the Roman Empire. Wouldn't that be a fairytale ending?!
After soaking up the history, we wandered through the charming Trastevere neighbourhood. Narrow streets lined with terracotta buildings, fragrant with jasmine and the aroma of delicious pizza. Serena led me to a tiny, hidden gem of a shop called "Le Rose di Trastevere" - the name alone is enough to melt a ballerina's heart, isn't it? They had the most beautiful selection of pink silk scarves and hand-painted porcelain teacups, which I just had to add to my Pink Tutu wardrobe! I knew it would be the perfect little touch to complete my Rome outfit, and indeed it was.
We ended the day with a sumptuous meal in a traditional Roman trattoria, sharing plates of pasta and enjoying the warmth of the Italian sun. And letās be honest, we were probably talking about tutus and sequins ā because thatās what best friends do, right?! Serena told me about an amazing ballet show at the Teatro dellāOpera di Roma next week, so you know I'll be adding that to the itinerary - just a girl, her pink tutu, and the magic of Italian ballet, oh bliss!
Day Two - Art, Culture andā¦A Fashion Show?!
Day Two started with a trip to the Galleria Borghese, and let me tell you, this museum is a dream for any art lover, or someone who just appreciates beautiful things, which I think covers us all! Sculptures by Bernini, paintings by Caravaggio, and an extensive collection of antique furniture - talk about some inspiration! I even imagined a ballet piece set in this majestic space. A waltz amidst the statues, perhaps a pas de deux around Bernini's famous 'Apollo and Daphne', the possibilities are endless!
Then came a little shopping, because let's face it, a ballet blogger simply can't resist a bit of fashion. I wandered into a beautiful shop near Piazza Navona, full of local artisan goods and vintage clothing - the kind of place where a pink tutu can shine even brighter. It was pure inspiration! I even picked up a hand-stitched rose brooch, perfect for a ballerina on the go!
That night, we got to experience a different side of Rome - a bustling, bohemian, theatrical scene at a live performance. It was like stepping into a glamorous movie set! It's moments like these, immersed in a new city and surrounded by friends, that make me realize how lucky I am to be able to travel the world with my passion for ballet and my love for pink tutus. The show was an experimental, modern performance with some incredibly creative costumes, and it left me feeling invigorated. Afterwards, we were treated to an intimate cocktail party, and oh boy, do they know how to party in Rome! They served a signature cocktail that was all kinds of pink and fruity, which I'm hoping they let me take back to Derbyshire with me, it might just be my new favourite pink beverage!
Day Three - A Toast to Rome
It's my final day in this beautiful city, and as I write this from a cafe with the best view over the Roman Forum, I'm already planning my return! But first, breakfast! Serena surprised me with the most incredible brunch at a local bakery - you know, the kind that makes you feel like youāre on the set of a charming Italian film. There was the best bread, ricotta, jam and freshly squeezed orange juice! Itās those little, simple moments that bring so much joy, especially when youāre in Rome!
After breakfast, we wandered the Piazza di Spagna and enjoyed the views from the Spanish Steps - so picture perfect. We finished with a gelato from a charming shop down a cobblestone street - I had to try a special flavour, āThe Pink Flamingo,ā made with strawberry, raspberry, and a touch of pink champagne - oh so delicious, of course. There's just something about Rome that fills your soul with joy, even more so when you're with friends who appreciate the joy of a good pink flamingo ice cream!
This evening, we're having a lovely dinner at a rooftop restaurant, followed by some rooftop dancing. It's the perfect end to this incredible adventure!
As my pink tutu journey comes to a close for now, I canāt help but think about how lucky I am to travel the world doing what I love! My pink tutu has been my constant companion - bringing joy, laughter, and, yes, maybe a few funny stares. But that's part of the fun, right?
So until next week, dear readers, stay pink, stay curious, and never stop twirling! Ciao!
