Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! #1537
Wednesday, 20th November 2024
Hello my darlings! I hope you are all well and having a fabulous week!
Itās Wednesday, and that means itās time for a brand new Pink Tutu travel blog! This week, weāre in the beautiful, historic city of Rome!
I have to say, darling, I am utterly smitten with Rome! The cobbled streets, the delicious food, the history everywhere you look - I feel like I've stepped back in time.
Oh, and the sunshine! The gorgeous Italian sunshine just adds a touch of magic to the whole experience, doesnāt it? Makes me want to twirl in my pink tutu and just soak it all up!
So, how did I get here? Well, as always, I travelled by train, of course. I am quite a train-loving girly! I packed my big, beautiful pink suitcase with all my tutus, sparkles, and glamorous attire - wouldn't be caught dead travelling without a tutu, darling. A girlās gotta be ready to dance wherever she goes! I adore the sense of adventure and excitement a train journey brings.
Once I arrived at Termini Station, the first thing I did was hop on a local bus. Yes, you heard right, Iām not afraid to be practical and embrace local transport. This got me to my gorgeous hotel right in the heart of Rome, in the charming Piazza Navona. I booked a little, chic, pink hotel, just the right side of old-school fabulous and, of course, my room has a magnificent balcony overlooking the square. Honestly, you wouldn't believe how delightful it is to sip a latte and watch the world go by every morning!
Speaking of latte, the food, oh my goodness! The food! Every bite has been pure heaven! I am definitely in danger of falling in love with pasta all over again - I've had spaghetti alla carbonara, cacio e pepe (that's just so much cheese and pepper darling!), gnocchi with pesto, the most incredible Roman artichokes, and all kinds of pasta imaginable. But don't forget the pizza!
Of course, no Italian adventure is complete without a big scoop of gelato. I have to tell you, this is where I really hit my pink stride, I found a delightful gelateria just down the street from my hotel. Imagine it, a pink flamingo ice cream stand called "Dolce Rosita". Needless to say, I spent quite a bit of time in this paradise. They even had a special flavour just for me, 'Strawberry Surprise', a beautiful pink confection made with fresh strawberries, cream, and, wait for it, edible glitter! I mean, who could resist, honestly!
Oh! Before I get too distracted by my passion for pink gelato, I forgot to tell you, my darlings, I have the most delightful treat in store for you on Thursday. You know I canāt resist a ballet show, and on Thursday evening Iām going to see the āOpera Ballet of Romeā perform āSwan Lakeā! I canāt wait to see this iconic ballet in such a stunning setting! I can imagine the costumes, the dancing, the energy, the drama ā pure magic! And just think, maybe even the occasional pink feather boa! (Because I'm sure there will be an occasion, darling!). I will make sure to post pictures, and my take on the performance on my Insta Stories, so be sure to check them out. I'm so excited for this and I'll tell you all about it in my next blog post!
Speaking of Instagram, it was my first full day here and of course, I already had my first photo shoot in Rome! I donned my best pink tutu - a gorgeous new tulle creation I found at this amazing boutique called āPink Parfaitā, nestled in a little hidden lane near Piazza Barberini, don't miss this one if youāre on a vintage fashion quest like me! Itās my kind of shop ā filled with the most divine frocks and the sweetest vintage pieces imaginable. My camera lens was a-glitter with my dazzling new tutu and the most vibrant colours imaginable.
After I did my tutu twirl photo shoot in Piazza Navona, I wandered towards the iconic Pantheon. Can you believe itās two thousand years old! It was breathtaking. It took me to a time before I was born, just like walking into the story books!
Then I saw it ā I literally gasped. Just around the corner of the Pantheon, there it was, the most beautiful little vintage ballet store youāve ever seen! āBallet Bellaā with a huge display of delicate ballet shoes and dazzling costumes and tutus. The shopkeeper was the sweetest old lady, she looked a little like Margot Fonteyn - a real icon. She gave me a tour, showing me old photographs of ballet stars performing in the Roman amphitheatres - you would not believe the history. Sheās planning to make me a custom pink tutu with a lovely vintage touch ā how amazing is that? Oh, I canāt wait. It will be so fabulous! It would be the perfect tutu to wear in a performance under the starry Roman night!
My shopping escapades didnāt end there darling! I walked down the Via Condotti, home to some of the world's most exclusive designers. The most divine shop windows filled with exquisite dresses, shoes, handbags, jewels ā it was pure heaven. I love finding vintage bargains so I skipped those, and popped into āGiselleā, a sweet boutique near the Spanish Steps where I found a wonderful cream crocheted shawl to match the vintage blush pink top I picked up the day before at the little Pink Parfait.
So now, I am back in my hotel, snuggled on my bed in my fluffy dressing gown, watching the sunset over Rome, enjoying the city lights twinkly and ready to get ready to go out for dinner tonight. We are planning to go to āLa Tavernaā, in a quirky little side street near the Colosseum. I have heard it has a really fun vibe. I love a little lively dancing, you know how it is! Iām wearing a fabulous little rose print dress (bought on one of my vintage hunting adventures) with my matching ballet shoes and pink velvet blazer, just a dash of elegance. You canāt go wrong with a touch of ballet sparkle, can you darling? I packed some fun, chunky, vintage pink jewellery. Canāt wait for some music, laughter, and good food. Maybe even some street dancing, who knows?!
Rome is all about exploring and taking it all in. Don't forget, thereās no place like a city full of ancient wonders to make you think about your life, your journey and the places you want to go next, and the best way to reflect is in a pink tutu.
Rome youāve been so incredibly kind to me. I hope I get to visit you again very soon, but for now Iām off to bed. Tomorrow, it's time for that āSwan Lakeā performance. And donāt forget to keep a lookout for the fabulous vintage pink tutu and all the latest Roman pink tutu-rific goodness in my next post!
Until then, stay pink and beautiful, and please let me know what youāre up to.
Lots of love, Emma xxx
