#PinkTutuRome Wednesday 2025-02-12 exploring Rome Italy

It’s Emma here, and this week’s Pink Tutu adventure takes us to the dazzling capital of Italy - Rome! I’ve dreamt of visiting this historical haven for years, and I'm finally here, ready to explore its cobblestone streets and soak up all that Italian magic.

As you all know, I love train journeys. The journey from Derbyshire was a delightful affair, watching the English countryside fade into the rolling hills of Tuscany, then finally arriving in Rome, with its beautiful, sun-drenched station. My first impression? Rome is full of vibrancy and excitement, buzzing with life and an infectious sense of joie de vivre. I swear, even the traffic seems to dance!

First things first: Ballet! No trip to Rome would be complete without indulging in the city’s incredible ballet scene. On Tuesday (yes, I arrived early!) I enjoyed a fantastic performance at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. I felt a thrill of excitement walking into the stunning venue, it felt so historic and elegant, it was practically bursting with theatrical magic. The performance was phenomenal! It was a contemporary piece that mixed in a few classical movements and was wonderfully moving, the dancers were incredible, their bodies swirling and gliding across the stage like graceful, ethereal beings.

Afterward, I was giddy with inspiration, so I hit up the nearest dance shop. I'm now the proud owner of a brand new pair of ballet shoes – Italian leather, of course, a luxurious, buttery-soft treat for my tired toes! I couldn't wait to get back to my hotel room and test them out, imagining I was waltzing through the Colosseum (that would definitely be a magical performance!).

I'm not just about the ballet, though! Shopping is a HUGE part of the Pink Tutu experience! (Don’t worry, it's all very affordable. I'm an expert on finding the best deals, and it's no secret my love for pink leads me to some amazing sales! ).

As soon as I stepped into the bustling, vibrant city centre, I felt a familiar feeling buzzing in my veins - that excitement for a new shopping spree! I immediately headed to the Spanish Steps for a dose of pink overload! From pink polka dot dresses to delicate floral pink lace blouses, I fell in love with all the gorgeous fabrics. I was also lucky enough to snag a beautiful pair of hand-crafted, pink satin ballet slippers (who knew they would be a fashion statement!), and a pink-fringed shawl – perfect for those evening strolls with a little extra flair!

Speaking of evening strolls, it would be rude not to mention the stunning view from the top of the Pantheon. Watching the sunset over Rome, painting the sky with vibrant shades of pink and orange… oh my, it’s a memory I’ll cherish forever! And as a testament to my pink tutu commitment, even the city's sunsets are helping spread the pink love!

Now, let's talk about food. My journey wouldn't be complete without indulging in Rome’s incredible culinary scene. There’s gelato, pizza, pasta... Oh, how can I choose? I must say, every single meal I've had so far has been utterly delicious. From simple street food like mouthwatering supplì (deep-fried balls of risotto) and delicious arancini (stuffed rice balls) to sitting down at authentic Italian trattorias enjoying classic dishes, each bite is an explosion of flavors and a delight for the senses! I even indulged in some delicious cannolis on my way to the Trevi fountain to throw in my coins!

Of course, what is a Rome trip without a pizza and wine extravaganza? This week, I tried the most incredible, hand-made pasta - think homemade tagliatelle with slow-cooked rabbit sauce, absolutely mouthwatering! (Oh, the truffle pizza at this one little hole in the wall is the best I’ve ever tasted!) The wine? Just heavenly. I think my favourite has to be the Barbera d'Asti - it has a delicious sweetness to it!

Speaking of deliciousness… did you know that it is an absolute must to try Rome's local chocolate shops? The flavours are just incredible! Chocolate made with different flavours of fruits, spices, nuts – each one an explosion of deliciousness! I found myself picking up more and more chocolate from these amazing stores, not only for myself, but also for gifts for family and friends, to remind them of my adventures here in the eternal city.

There's so much more to share about my incredible week in Rome - from exploring the ancient ruins of the Forum, standing in awe of the Colosseum and its epic scale, to wandering through the fascinating history of the Vatican Museums. Rome has a constant hum of history in every cobblestone street and monument!

But Rome isn't all about history, though, even with that incredible buzz! It's also a city buzzing with modern style! One afternoon, I decided to treat myself to an incredible experience. I walked through the charming, trendy Via dei Condotti and visited Valentino, a store filled with glamorous pink and glittery, breathtaking couture creations! It was a real fairy tale moment! I can't even explain how incredible the clothes are. The attention to detail is out of this world! I did promise myself that I’d treat myself to something special once I had my Pink Tutu Roman adventure. I wasn’t disappointed! I was tempted to buy an incredible silk dress that shimmered under the lamplights… But let's just say that the beautiful dress in the Valentino boutique is waiting for my next trip! I am sure there will be another pink tutu Roman adventure in the future!

Of course, every night after these adventures, I found a cozy café where I enjoyed a beautiful glass of wine (with delicious pasta!), a warm, friendly atmosphere and the opportunity to catch up on some well-needed blog time! The sound of my laptop clicking while I enjoy the view, sipping wine and reflecting on my days. What a way to finish the day!

Speaking of the Pink Tutu! Everywhere I've gone in Rome, I've embraced my passion for pink tutus! I've been sporting them throughout the city - from exploring the Trevi Fountain and throwing in my coin (hoping for a wish!) to enjoying a romantic gondola ride down the Tiber River!

Every passerby looks so intrigued and happy! And I love spreading the joy and joyfulness! I think it's infectious! The most important part of the Pink Tutu Movement is to wear your heart on your sleeve – literally! So, whether you're feeling fabulous in a full-blown pink tulle tutu or just adding a pop of pink to your outfit, let your inner Pink Tutu goddess shine! (Did I mention, it’s absolutely impossible to find a store that doesn’t have a beautiful, sparkling, pink accessory to add to your wardrobe. They’re absolutely everywhere! You’d think it was my own personal color!)

This week in Rome has been an unforgettable journey full of art, culture, and delicious food. But most of all, it has been an incredible celebration of the beauty of Italy and the importance of finding your own, personal, unique sparkle.

It is a must-see, and must-experience, destination for anyone. Just a short hop on a train, and it feels like you're a million miles away. The feeling of escaping into the historic magic, the cobblestone streets, and those amazing Italian vibes... oh, it’s absolutely magical!
