Ciao, darlings! 🩰
It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another installment of your weekly dose of Pink Tutu travel! And this week, I’m writing to you from the Eternal City, Rome!
I’ve always been fascinated by ancient Rome. The Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain - just the names are enough to make you feel like you’re stepping into a history book. And who better to experience this magical city with than yours truly, Emma, the Pink Tutu ballerina?
After a wonderful journey through the Italian countryside by train – it’s always such a relaxing way to travel and soak in the scenery – I arrived in Rome and was immediately charmed.
I just love the vibrancy and the buzz here. From the ancient Roman ruins to the vibrant markets, the history of Rome literally seeps out from the cobblestone streets!
The Romans love their gelato, too. I indulged in some absolutely divine flavours, and I can tell you, it's much tastier here than back home! 😉
Speaking of flavours, I even managed to find some beautifully ruffled tutus in some of Rome's boutiques – which is always a win! You know how much I love my pink tutu, but sometimes I like to experiment with different styles and textures. Who knows, maybe I’ll even pick up some new ballet shoes here, as I'm going to be doing some dancing during this trip – I can't be away from the ballet for long, can I?
Rome is full of opportunities to indulge my passion for the arts. It is just the right combination of glamour, culture, history, fashion and food! Oh, and there is just something so incredibly romantic about Rome. 🥰
Now, I’ll fill you in on all my amazing Roman adventures in this week’s post:
My Rome ItineraryI’m planning to be in Rome for a whole week, which is plenty of time to soak up all this beautiful city has to offer. And don’t worry, my fellow pink tutu lovers, I’ve got lots planned for you all!
Day One:
Rome truly is a city where the past meets the present, and to start my adventure, I headed straight for the Colosseum! It was even more magnificent in person than in the photos – massive, imposing, and just breathtakingly beautiful. Just imagine gladiators and chariots and roaring crowds all those centuries ago! I did, and it filled me with a sense of awe.
After, I grabbed some gelato from a cute little cafe with pink awnings – gotta stick with the colour scheme, right? – and took a leisurely stroll to the Forum, enjoying the afternoon sunshine. I'm loving all the historic architecture. They don’t build ‘em like they used to, that’s for sure.
And to end a perfect day in Rome, I savored an evening ballet performance at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma! This venue is truly majestic – grand, luxurious and ornate. It's no wonder Rome is the capital of the world’s opera. There’s just something so thrilling about classical music and ballet in such a beautiful setting.
Day Two:
The Trevi Fountain! It’s iconic, it’s gorgeous, it’s so busy – and it truly is just as lovely as it looks in all those movies. I tossed my lucky coin in (because you gotta, right? ), made a wish for a trip back to Rome, and then twirled with the happy tourists in front of the stunning fountains. Just look at all those amazing angles, and that cascading water, it truly is an incredible sight to see.
But you know what’s even more impressive than all the architecture? The people here, who are some of the most friendly and charming people I've met on my travels. We always share smiles, I get plenty of thumbs up when I spin in my pink tutu and even the odd comment about how stylish I am. It’s lovely. Everyone seems to love to stop and watch me, the Pink Tutu ballerina, twirling in my element. 😊
And since we are talking fashion, did I mention I got my hair styled at a fantastic local salon? And guess what – they have the most amazing selection of accessories! So of course, I just had to buy some matching pink ribbons and headbands to adorn my new do!
Day Three:
Today was dedicated to some shopping! Rome has such amazing vintage shops. I managed to find a few vintage pieces for my wardrobe that you guys are going to LOVE! It wouldn't be a Roman holiday without buying some new things to fill my wardrobe, would it? 👠
After I found the best new little Italian bistro, the kind of little place where the locals go. They had the most adorable red gingham tablecloths – so charming!
The food here is divine! Pasta is just exquisite in Rome, I don't even think there's anywhere better in the world! Then there's all that fantastic pizza! It’s been pizza heaven! I’m determined to eat my way through as much of the Italian cuisine as possible. It's the perfect holiday food for dancing. You really can’t go wrong with a classic Margherita! 😋
Day Four:
This morning I was at a fun street performance where there were local street performers twirling around with me and making us laugh with some cheeky dance moves. That’s the beauty of ballet. Everyone is so welcoming in Rome.
It was amazing watching talented street performers - some had stunning ballet costumes on – there was this amazing little boy who was dressed in full pointe shoes, who was performing the most incredible footwork with an electric pink tutu that almost matched my own! What a showstopper. Then, after an amazing and inspiring lunch, I headed to Vatican City – what an incredible place!
This place feels full of life, of faith, of beauty and I truly loved experiencing it, taking photos in front of the beautiful architecture and meeting some kind, smiling visitors from around the world!
Of course, I was fascinated by St. Peter’s Basilica - this majestic cathedral with its ornate artwork, impressive marble sculptures, and grand halls… And those breathtaking stained-glass windows are something else! And to top it off, I had a divine little pastry and enjoyed the views from the dome - amazing! I’ve definitely found a special connection to this holy place, one I know I won’t forget.
Day Five:
To Rome, by bike! You really can explore all of Rome, from the city centre to its historical parks and charming streets. Cycling through the historical streets, seeing ancient Rome and modern architecture juxtaposed – I absolutely loved the view of the Colosseum and Roman Forum from the park! And the beautiful flower stalls everywhere… I’m tempted to move here – for the weather, for the flowers and the amazing ballet performances. It feels like a dance from my dreams.
Today has been all about enjoying the beauty of the city at a more leisurely pace. The Italian lifestyle suits me so well.
Day Six:
I started this morning by heading to the Galleria Borghese, which features the work of such iconic artists like Caravaggio, Raphael and Bernini. This beautiful museum truly did justice to such breathtaking masterpieces. And, if you know anything about me you know I absolutely adored the Galleria Borghese gardens. A perfect blend of beauty and grandeur and I even saw a troupe of ballerinas practicing – in perfect synchronization. A delightful little inspiration!
In the afternoon I treated myself to an incredible cappuccino and a delicious chocolate cake – and spent hours window-shopping in the trendy designer boutiques and antique stores. It’s been a great shopping spree in a city full of style and fashion! 👠
And this evening was a fabulous dance performance, at a different venue in Rome this time, and they served the most beautiful lemon tart at the interval! This deliciousness was a fitting end to an exhilarating day.
Day Seven:
Before heading back home I went to visit the iconic Spanish Steps – another classic symbol of Rome! A beautiful historic site, it's full of local colour, fashion, tourists and photographers, it truly is a melting pot of all that is Roman. But just watch out for all the scooters! The city seems to be moving on two wheels! 🛵
To cap it all off I finished my stay with one last slice of delicious pizza. After all, you can’t leave Rome without trying their authentic pizza. And I’ve been having it almost every day! This city really has something to offer everyone, a mix of history and modern. I will always be charmed by the beautiful cobbled streets.
So, until next week…Rome has captivated my heart. This city, filled with history, culture, food and beauty is like a dance partner leading me on an elegant waltz of delight! I can’t wait to get back to Derbyshire and fill you in on my Italian adventures. 🇮🇹
Until next week, darling, keep on twirling!
Much love,
Emma,
