Hello my lovely darlings, and welcome to another Wednesday instalment of the Pink Tutu Chronicles! This week, we’re taking a whirl around the eternal city, Rome! The cobbled streets, the ancient history, the delectable gelato… what’s not to adore? It’s like a movie set come to life, except instead of gladiators and chariots, you’ve got fashion-forward tourists in colourful clothes and stylish scooters zipping through the piazzas.
Train Travel is for the Soul
As you all know, my trusty travel companion is the glorious train, and Rome is absolutely accessible via the Italian train network. From Derbyshire, it’s just a short (ish) hop and skip, although, let’s be honest, a train journey can easily become an adventure of its own! Imagine the joy of leisurely looking out of the window, seeing the landscapes morph and change as you make your way towards the next adventure, accompanied by the gentle sway and clack of the tracks beneath you… it's quite the experience, darlings!
This trip, however, involved a little more excitement than usual. We had a little train "detour" – a minor derailment (oh no, not the tulle!) on our way in, but thankfully everything was fine. The Italians handled it all with that signature blend of calm and chaos, and before long, we were on a new train, enjoying the scenery and, of course, a good gossip. A little drama in the train journey just adds that bit of intrigue, wouldn't you agree?
Landing in a Paradise of Pink
Upon arriving in Rome, the excitement just kept on escalating. There's a real buzz about the place – a whirlwind of ancient history, lively markets, and mouthwatering aromas from street vendors. It's enough to make any Pink Tutu girl want to twirl around the cobblestone streets, chasing pigeons and giggling with glee. Oh, how I wish I could have worn my tutu out here – the cobblestone would provide such a rhythmic click-clack for the tutus. Think of the fashion shoot potential!
Of course, the Eternal City already has a fashion vibe going on - Rome's always been at the forefront of trends, and everyone from tourists to locals takes style seriously. From classic leather jackets and chic accessories to bold prints and fabulous shoes, every turn unveils a new fashion statement. As a proud member of the “Pink Tutu” team, I can’t help but admire the daring style of the Romans, especially the women! They wear bright colors and playful prints with so much confidence, which inspires me to break out of my fashion comfort zone and go all out! It's all about that infectious spirit!
Roman Rhapsody: The Culture and Charm
The history of Rome is simply mind-blowing. Visiting the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, was like stepping back in time, and feeling that energy from generations past, all while picturing life in the ancient Roman empire. There’s an incredible air of mystery, which adds another layer of excitement. I love discovering the stories behind the structures and the events that took place within them. And as someone who loves history as much as I love fashion, it's like a fairytale come to life! The stories weave a magnificent tapestry of courage, artistry, and drama…
The Roman architecture itself is such a magnificent testament to beauty and art. Every building, from grand basilicas to modest alleyways, is adorned with stunning artwork and beautiful carvings. The attention to detail is impeccable.
But the beauty of Rome isn't just found in ancient monuments and artwork, it’s also in the warmth of the people, the joy in their food and their passion for life. They’re a welcoming bunch! And, of course, the gelato - the ice cream that melts your heart, not your ice cream! You haven’t experienced true gelato until you've had it in Rome. There's this divine richness that simply bursts with flavour and goodness. I’d say it's a national treasure!
A Touch of Tutu Glamour
Okay, let's get down to the nitty-gritty - this trip wasn't solely about history and art (though I wholeheartedly recommend you soak those up when you come!), it was also about some good old-fashioned "Pink Tutu" fun! So, as much as I enjoyed the historical sites, the moment I spotted a dance academy (it seemed destined!), I just had to investigate! It was a little bit of a hidden gem, tucked away down a quiet street. I entered with excitement, and guess what, dear friends… it was completely fitting! The studio was brimming with vibrant pink walls and a collection of colorful tutus – they even had a pink one hanging proudly at the entrance. Oh my, you should’ve seen the way I did a little dance of joy when I saw it – it felt like fate had called me in for a pirouette! I practically squealed in delight. This felt right!
I had to take a little impromptu ballet class, of course, because when do I ever say “no” to a good prance, darling? The teachers were friendly, the other students were encouraging (there were several young hopefuls with their mamas and grandma’s!), and we danced and spun, with smiles radiating in that warm Italian sunlight.
As I danced around that little pink-walled room, it was just a reminder of how a passion can translate into joy anywhere in the world! The language of dance truly knows no bounds!
Fashion Find!
One of my most favourite activities during my trip was, naturally, exploring the shops! And believe me, Rome didn't disappoint. As I ambled around the colourful markets, it was pure indulgence. I came across so many stunning silk scarves, flowing linen dresses, and, of course, beautiful pink ballet shoes - some even with matching tutus! Talk about divine!
And it's all so reasonably priced, too, my dears. My suitcase came home very full! (If only you could have seen the look of the border control officials when they saw that pink ballerina case overflowing!) Rome's got that timeless chic with a touch of modern vibrancy – it’s no wonder I keep going back. It’s that mix of elegance, creativity, and fun that sparks my Pink Tutu spirit, every single time.
A Roman Romance...of the Gastronomical Kind
Okay, I need to take a moment to dedicate some attention to the real highlight of my trip: the food. From authentic pizza slices enjoyed at little sidewalk cafes, to elegant pasta courses in cozy, candlelit restaurants, every bite was a delicious discovery! And, of course, those famous pastries – creamy tiramisu, crumbly biscotti… my dears, just one look and I practically began to tap-dance. Every mouthful of delicious food was a magical dance. The Italians are truly passionate about what they eat, and it shows!
It’s all about indulging your senses – a symphony of flavor, aromatic delights that stimulate your senses! That's my version of Italian Romancing. Oh, if food could be a dance partner... we’d make such an unforgettable pair!
The Eternal City and The Eternal Pink Tutu Dream
And, let’s talk about those breathtaking views, darling! Rome’s got it all – the ancient Roman wonders alongside the majestic city, rising high against the blue, Italian sky. You can even find these charming, romantic hidden corners and secret gardens scattered throughout the city. I've got a few photos from some stunning, hidden gardens that are perfect for twirling and photo opportunities! Just wait till you see the ones from the Borghese Gardens! I managed to snag some shots with breathtaking pink-tinged sunset as the backdrop – I’m planning to post those on my Pink Tutu page later! You're welcome!
As always, the whole journey is not just about me exploring, it's about sharing these delightful experiences with you lovely ladies. And that, darling, is what makes all of this truly fabulous. I've been thinking a lot about how important it is to feel the city you're in – not just see it!
Whether it's enjoying a street performance or exploring hidden gardens, it’s about those magical, heartfelt moments that we experience on a trip – a reminder of why we travel, why we explore, why we're here.
Speaking of performances, darling, you're all going to adore the video clip I made about my visit to a wonderful little theater right next door to my favourite gelato shop. It's one of the most romantic theatres I have ever visited, with soft candlelight and velvet curtains. Oh, to spend my life in a setting like that. A bit dramatic, you might say, but just think of how wonderfully inspiring it would be for all of us! And don't worry, the video clip has the best Pink Tutu soundtrack ever.
I’ve gotta say, this journey through Rome, filled with so much pink-tinted fun, was like living a fairy tale for a week. The Italian charm and charisma mixed with all the art, history, gelato, shopping… It just felt right! This place is not called "the Eternal City" for no reason! I guess it’s because the enchantment here truly endures – every time you think you’ve explored every corner, you stumble across something breathtakingly new, a new detail, a new twist, and there are always those hidden surprises waiting to delight you! And, of course, my quest continues! Every destination is a chance to spread a little pink tutu joy - and I have a feeling there are plenty of potential Pink Tutu ladies roaming the cobbled streets of Rome, ready to break free with a twirl!
Stay tuned for next Wednesday’s post on our adventures in Florence – which I just know will be overflowing with even more pink-tinted fabulousness, and as usual… all things Pink Tutu!
See you soon my loves!
With a whirl and a twirl,
Emma

*P.S. Did I mention that this is a *huge city? I need to add one very important travel tip – Wear comfortable shoes. Trust me, it’s one of the best ways to soak in the authentic Roman experience! And when I say “comfortable,” I mean “very comfortable!” (No pointe shoes here darling!) And of course, it always helps to have a trusty Pink Tutu to guide the way! I swear, the magic just follows when you’re sporting your pink tutu – it works wonders!” **
