Pink Tutu Rome: A City of Pink, Pastries, and Plié's! (Post #1622)

Buongiorno, darling tutus! It's Emma here, your pink-clad guide to all things sparkly, stylish and oh-so-fabulous. I'm so excited to be back in the eternal city of Rome! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a new #PinkTutuRome adventure on www.pink-tutu.com! Today's topic: A day filled with pizza, piazzas, and a lot of pink!

So, you know how I always say that every city has a pink tutu waiting for you? Well, Rome has got a whole collection, each one more glamorous than the last! I'm not talking about actual tutus, although those do pop up in some rather unexpected places here. No, this time, I'm referring to the vibrant colour, the energy, the dramatic flair – just like the colour pink!

Rome, for me, feels like a grand ballet set; its ancient ruins are like breathtaking backdrops for grand ballets, its charming streets filled with characters, each a dancer with a story to tell. This week, I've decided to channel this energy by exploring some hidden corners of the city and experiencing a taste of the real Roman life – something a little bit different from the usual tourist attractions.

Trains and Trailing Twirls:

This week, I've taken to travelling on the local trains, and oh my, it's been an experience! This city pulsates with a sense of movement; you've got the tourists buzzing around, the locals getting their day underway, and all of it combined is a magnificent spectacle. I've discovered a secret delight - the Italian phrase for 'platform' is "binario". It’s the sweetest word I've learned all week! And it always makes me smile when I see it written up at the station!

Imagine this: I'm perched on a train, sunshine streaming in, watching the city roll past my window. A twirl or two here, a cheeky peek out the window, and then I pull out my travel journal to jot down the day's adventures. Of course, my pink tutu, complete with sparkly pink tulle and a matching beret, is my travel companion - I always believe in making a statement, especially when navigating the bustling Roman metro.

Pizza, Pastry and Piazzas:

Food is such an integral part of any Italian adventure. We all know about pasta and gelato (and yes, I'll be doing a whole post on my favorite gelateria soon!) but have you had real Roman pizza? Oh, the joy! I visited a little trattoria tucked away in a quiet alley. The scent of freshly baked pizza was enough to lure me in. You see, for a ballet dancer like me, carbohydrates are a dancer’s friend – think of all the energy you need for a performance!

Now, I have a secret confession: I can’t travel without pastries. They're my guilty pleasure. And in Rome, it’s even easier to give in! I stumbled upon a quaint little pastry shop called Pasticceria Rosetta, the place had pink velvet chairs, marzipan creations shaped like roses, and the most amazing cream puffs! My tutu, with its tulle billowing, had to be carefully positioned as I devoured the sweet, fluffy treat! It was heaven on a plate!

After stuffing myself silly with pastries, it's time to soak in the ambience of this vibrant city. I made my way to Piazza Navona, one of the most impressive piazzas in Rome, with its ancient fountains and street performers. It felt like a grand ballet stage, filled with movement, colour, and a sense of joy.

Finding My Inner Roman:

Rome isn’t just a tourist destination, it’s a city full of everyday magic. I popped into a vintage store where I found a beautifully embroidered, rose pink lace top! I snapped it up, knowing I’d wear it that evening! That evening, I spent an evening at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the majestic Opera house. It was my first visit to this stunning venue, a treasure trove of architectural beauty. The inside was pure decadence: glittering chandeliers, red velvet seats, and the aura of anticipation. They were showcasing ‘The Nutcracker,’ and, naturally, the tutus on stage inspired my own outfit choice for the evening. The ballet was a visual feast - the dancers were exquisite and the story was a charming blend of whimsical fun and heartwarming emotion. My feet were tapping the whole way through the show, but I must confess, my heart was touched by the emotional ending. It made me realize why I love dance so much – it’s a language that transcends words, a way to connect with others through movement and feeling.

My #PinkTutuTip for Rome

Wear a vibrant coloured top. This city screams color - and it brings your style to life.

That's all for this week's #PinkTutuRome adventure, my lovely tutu lovers. Join me again next Wednesday for more exciting escapades in the eternal city, as I uncover more hidden treasures, taste delectable treats and discover even more sparkling experiences!

Until then, twirl with a smile and don't forget - the world is your stage. Remember to be kind, always, be generous, always, and above all – be pink!

With love and a whole lotta tutus,

Emma
