Ciao bella!
It's Wednesday, and you know what that means... It's time for another Pink Tutu Rome adventure! Today's post is extra special as we delve deeper into the heart of the Eternal City.
So, imagine this. Me, Emma, your trusty pink-tutu wearing blogger, hopping off the train from Derbyshire and landing right in the middle of the Roman sunshine, the scent of freshly baked bread, and... well, you've probably guessed it - another gorgeous pink tutu waiting in my suitcase, ready to sparkle against the stunning backdrop of this historical beauty.
The train journey was pure bliss, as usual! As the English countryside flew by, I sipped on my cappuccino, dreaming about all the sights I'd be soaking up in Rome - the Colosseum, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain - my to-do list was epic, and each site felt like a personal stage ready for my pirouettes. Speaking of which, my trusty travelling bag contained, alongside the tutu, a brand new pair of ballet flats for dancing through the Roman cobblestone streets.
I couldn't wait to see the magic of Rome, and believe me, the magic is most definitely there. But first, shopping!
Now, it's a known fact that Rome is a fashionista's dream. After checking in, I had to make a bee-line to Via Condotti, the exclusive shopping street famous for its designer boutiques. The window displays were a masterpiece! They had this kind of glamorous fairytale feel, and I was tempted to walk through the windows.
This shopping spree was almost like my pre-performance jitters, with that thrill of the show about to begin! The shops, full of chic and extravagant attire, felt like an opening night in a high-end fashion show.
It's hard not to succumb to the luxury. But I stuck to my usual bargain hunting style. A beautiful silk scarf in blush pink? Check! A sparkly headband that matches my favourite tutu? Check! I had the best time trying on everything and imagined all the photos I'd take in the Colosseum or Trevi Fountain, feeling like the absolute belle of the ball, Pink Tutu and all.
I knew it was the perfect chance to showcase a new kind of travelling ballerina, one that brings glamour and fun to every destination, embracing all the wonderful elements of culture and beauty a place has to offer.
After shopping, we (because you're always with me on these adventures, even if you're just reading) indulged in the most delightful Aperol Spritzes under the Roman sun, listening to street musicians, feeling the infectious Italian joie de vivre. You know how I feel about aperitivos!
For dinner, I treated myself to a pasta feast that tasted like the best kind of culinary fairytale! I savored each bite, imagining myself a princess dining in a grand Roman palace.
This part of the trip, I'm not going to lie, felt like a magical dream sequence! The music, the atmosphere, the food... even the people!
So much fun and joy, and all this before I even started exploring the iconic landmarks.
The Eternal City - a Feast for the Senses!
Yesterday, we started early and walked straight to the Colosseum. Now, even with my inner ballerina already squealing, the Colosseum was HUGE! I didn't just see the sheer scale of its magnificence, I felt it. The history oozed out of the stones.
As a dancer, the gladiatorial arena in front of me conjured up powerful images of epic battles and the sheer passion of Roman entertainment, it just echoed that unshakeable connection between human beings and performing.
I had a little mini photoshoot near the Colosseum to capture the majestic structure in the background. My Pink Tutu was a striking contrast against the ochre walls. I made sure to capture every inch of its glory - and mine, of course!
Of course, I didn't let my love for all things dance, particularly street performances, slip my mind. The Roman streets turned into impromptu ballet classes as I twirled and leaped with joyous abandon. The Roman locals couldn't help but join in my impromptu performance!
Now, there is something almost theatrical about Roman life! Just wandering through the historic streets, I imagined all the stories from different eras playing out, feeling a part of history and that wonderful shared story of human drama!
But Rome is full of beautiful, historical surprises too! Hidden around the corners of the city, we found some beautiful Roman mosaics in churches - more inspiring dance patterns and an enchanting glimpse into Roman artistry.
Even the gardens are inspiring. The Baroque Gardens of Villa Borghese, full of classical statues and tranquil fountains, provided another opportunity for some fun photo opportunities with my tutu. It felt like I had stumbled into the stage set for a historical drama, ready to twirl my way through an opulent scene.
Mamma Mia! A Magical Night Out
Tonight, we’re attending Mamma Mia! - it's a timeless classic of theatrical fun, and it seemed to perfectly capture the spirit of Italy! I can’t wait to immerse myself in the music, the comedy, and the heartwarming stories, with a bit of extra twirling on my part, naturally! I have my pinkest tutu waiting for the big show, complete with sequins to light up the theatre, just like the stars.
For all you avid followers, don’t worry, I'll make sure to report back on how much fun we have.
Sharing the Pink Tutu Magic with You
Here in Rome, everything feels infused with that theatrical and passionate spirit of the Italians. They have such a beautiful love for their history, for the vibrant streets, the sunshine, the food… the sheer pleasure of just existing and experiencing every moment!
It reminds me to stop, savour the moment, and celebrate the magic of life. You can find magic in everyday, that is my ultimate message and my dream - spreading that love of dance, of embracing life, of being ourselves, and most importantly of course... of embracing pink!
I believe every city is an inspiring place, just waiting for someone to bring a splash of pink tutu magic! And while I might not be able to get everyone to wear pink tutus quite yet, I am showing how beautiful and liberating they can be!
But wait, there's more! Next week's blog is all about Vatican City - you won’t want to miss it. Until then, keep spreading the pink love.
Arrivederci, amici!
