Ciao bellas! Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to the Eternal City, and oh my goodness, it was a dream come true! Just imagine, the most beautiful buildings you've ever seen, incredible food, fabulous fashion – and me, twirling around in my pink tutu of course! This is how I live life, my dears, pink, glittery, and always with a bit of a twirl!
This trip was extra special because I’ve always wanted to visit Rome, the place where emperors ruled and gladiators fought, and the home of all those beautiful Roman emperors like Augustus! I’ve always loved those toga parties! I know, you’re thinking, Emma, toga parties? Where is the ballet, darling? Well, fear not! This Roman holiday was full of it!
Firstly, as my lovely readers know, my travel rule number one – always travel by train! So off we set from Derbyshire, England on the Eurostar to Paris and then from Paris to Rome. Yes, it’s a long journey, but there's no other way to truly experience the world! On the train, I took some beautiful pics for the gram. My signature pink tutu of course, this time, a vintage style creation that was just begging to be twirled amidst the glamour of a Parisian carriage, (and yes, there was a little impromptu twirl on board)! Just imagine! A vintage style pink tutu, in a first class carriage with a steaming cuppa and some divine chocolate from the cart! Honestly, sometimes life is pure bliss!
I was particularly excited about Rome because I knew it was the birthplace of the first public ballet school! How fabulous is that? To be in the place where such an artform began was an incredibly humbling experience.
Fashion: From Trevi to Tosca
Of course, we're going to talk fashion! This week, my chosen outfit was a divine, bubblegum pink silk dress (totally on trend and, needless to say, perfectly complemented by my pink tutu, which, if you don’t have at least three different styles and lengths, darling, you really should.) This one, my darlings, was an absolute beauty, with tulle layers that swirled with each step I took! I just loved it! But when in Rome... I made sure to slip on some fantastic gladiators. What’s a ballet girl to do in a city full of ancient ruins? Channel the spirit of the ancient warriors, darling!
As we were going for a very elegant look this trip, my fabulous accessories were all very carefully curated, darling! A pair of very fine pearl earrings (which were just a bit of a splurge!) , a gorgeous rose gold watch (for that touch of sparkle!) and my special ballet shoes. (Never underestimate a perfect ballet shoe! The right ones, darling, can change the entire world around you!)
Rome: The Pantheon and More
After an incredible trip by train (honestly, the scenery, my darlings! The countryside, vineyards, beautiful countryside) and a fantastic pizza on the train, we arrived in Rome and immediately headed for the Trevi Fountain. I mean, how could we not? Such a truly magnificent sight, but of course, I wasn’t just staring at the beauty. It’s good manners, darling! And anyway, my dear, the fountain, well, it's quite simply a fabulous backdrop to my twirling! A picture in this setting would be chef's kiss!
So there I was, spinning around the Trevi Fountain, my pink tutu catching the sunlight, imagining myself as a Roman goddess of dance! My dreams do get wild when I’m on a trip! But just to set the scene a little further: I was joined by a troupe of little girls who'd also caught the Roman dance bug. They wanted to dance with me, darling! It was pure magic, so sweet. So, darling, for the day, we twirled together at Trevi fountain, little ballerina dancers with my tutus on and, the Roman Goddesses of Dance and Fashion, ready for whatever adventures this city might hold for us.
From Trevi Fountain, we visited the Pantheon. Imagine a temple with a massive opening right in the middle, all the way up to the heavens. I’ve always been interested in mythology and gods and these types of temples. This is an old old structure! We can date its foundation back to AD125 It was pretty overwhelming, darling! To think that people back then looked at this beautiful building! Imagine a modern girl wearing a tutu looking into this temple! A dream come true.
Rome truly is an enchanting place. Everywhere you look, you can't help but be inspired, especially a girl like me!
On Pointe in the Eternal City:
So of course, a trip to Rome wasn't complete without some serious ballet time. After much research (and trust me, it takes an enormous amount of dedication to a ballet lifestyle) we stumbled across this magnificent ballet school called Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. A beautiful building just screaming ballet, and a ballet company full of very experienced and, most importantly, supportive ballet instructors who couldn’t believe my tutu (well, what’s the point of travelling with my tutu otherwise, my dears?) They were so welcoming. It was such a great privilege, being part of the studio and getting some great advice from them.
Oh My God! An Enchanting Ballet
One evening, I had the ultimate treat - a spectacular ballet show at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. The entire experience was breath-taking: the stunning theatre, the intricate costumes, and, my dear, the incredible choreography! I can’t really describe it, honestly. For someone who adores a show and appreciates incredible performances and wonderful dancing, the theatre in Rome really brought all that to life. And yes, darling, my pink tutu had its moments, naturally, when I slipped into my best, dramatic pose, but of course I wasn’t showing off!
That night, I realised a deep truth - Rome is a city full of stories. They're hidden in every cobblestone, in every arch, in the delicious aroma of freshly-made pasta, and even in the twirls of my pink tutu!
And now my darlings, to tell you the truth, it's getting very late, the clocks have gone forward for the new season, so this week, we’ll be wrapping this up. Next week’s post, we’ll be talking fashion again - all about my best purchases from Rome! It’s really got to be said, shopping for vintage tutus in Rome, especially around the Trevi Fountain is a magical thing to do. And yes, it’s all going to be featured next week - including a beautiful Roman leather tutu! I know what you are thinking... how can it possibly be leather? I won't be spoiling the surprise but this is going to be incredible!
