Buongiorno! Can you believe it's Wednesday already? This week's flown by, as always, filled to the brim with pink tutus and all things beautiful and balletic. I'm sitting in my darling little hotel room, in a quiet corner of the heart of Rome, my very special pink tulle twirling around me like a cloud of delicious sugary cotton candy. How I love to travel, how I love a new city and most of all, how I love being here, in Rome.
It feels like just yesterday I was back in Derbyshire, twirling amongst the rolling hills and fields, preparing for my latest ballet performance - it’s been so busy lately! As always, though, my favourite part of any journey, even one from Derbyshire to Rome, is the train journey. Honestly, is there a more wonderful way to travel? All those fascinating landscapes, the towns whizzing by, the friendly smiles of the fellow travellers - it’s like being in a movie. And of course, I never leave home without my trusty travel pink tutu, and as much as I love a nice comfy carriage, let's be honest, my tulle isn’t always the easiest companion on a packed train, but I always find a way! Let’s be pink, it’s worth it (as my mantra goes) - the excitement of travelling in my favourite tutus far outweighs the occasional bump or a fellow traveller needing extra legroom!
So here I am in Roma, the eternal city of romance and culture. I feel it already: this city is pulsating with life, history, passion, and elegance – the perfect mix of romance and energy, exactly like a balletic symphony. The city whispers of emperors, poets, artists, and artists who became emperors - it's fascinating! The Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Forum - the very stones of this place are teeming with tales of grand and dramatic love affairs. Can you just imagine the passion of the gladiatorial battles, the fiery Roman dances! I can almost hear the balletic music wafting in the air, feel the twirling skirts of the Vestal Virgins!
I can’t wait to get out and explore this dazzling city. But first, breakfast – the smells from the little café below are heavenly. They do an amazing cappuccino here!
Wednesday in Rome:
This Wednesday in Rome was jam-packed with pink tutu delights:
Morning: Breakfast at my darling little hotel, followed by a walk through the cobbled lanes of Trastevere - Oh My Goddess, I’m in Love! This is the real Rome. Think winding alleyways, sunshine bouncing off ochre walls, laughter from open windows, and charming trattorias tucked away on every corner. I must admit, though, I couldn't resist stepping into Atelier Francesca, a hidden gem of a boutique that was, oh, simply darling! A plethora of vibrant dresses and skirts, lace and silk - it was heavenly. I felt my imagination whirl around in delight and found the perfect tulle skirt for this afternoon - an elegant ivory with intricate lace patterns, so soft and dreamy, like the skirt of a ballerina in the most romantic waltz. Of course, I needed the matching top, just because… Pink tutus are just always necessary!
Afternoon: I couldn’t resist heading over to the Piazza Navona! Oh, it was everything I ever imagined: Fountains gushing water in a flurry of sculpted mermaids and statues. The air filled with artists and musicians - it felt like a real, live painting. A tiny slight detour brought me to a tiny boutique - and let's just say I found a tiny gem of a ballet flat – emerald green and glitter, absolutely divine!
Evening: Tonight's excitement is just a few blocks away - The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma! I managed to snag tickets for "La Bohème." I can't imagine anything more wonderful than experiencing Puccini's masterpiece in the city he made famous - a true balletic masterpiece, and I will be rocking my emerald ballet flats and ivory tutu (after a swift change, of course! I don’t want to stand out too much!), accompanied by a small handbag in a bold fuchsia pink - because of course!
I'm already feeling the magic. I can practically hear the violins, feel the twirls of the dancers, and smell the fragrant aroma of the stage and audience, all blended together with a dash of romantic magic - how utterly delicious!
Tomorrow is Friday - I can feel it will be a **Pink Tutu Friday for the books! Rome isn’t a place to leave until every single corner, nook, and cranny is explored!
Stay tuned to pink-tutu.com for my next post.
Until then, be inspired and keep twirling!
Emma x
