Ciao bella! ? It's Emma here, back from the Eternal City, and oh my goodness, Rome has stolen my heart! ? This week, we're taking a break from my usual ballet adventures for a full-on dose of Italian sunshine, history, and gelato, oh so much gelato! ? And, of course, I brought my trusty pink tutu along for the ride. ? Because let's be real, every outfit is just that bit more magical with a touch of tulle, don't you think? ✨
I have to tell you, the journey from Derbyshire to Rome was absolutely delightful. There's something so romantic about traveling by train. I just love looking out the window, watching the world whizz by, and getting lost in a good book (currently reading 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo', highly recommend!). I might have even snuck in a little ballet practice in the aisle, much to the amusement of my fellow passengers! ?
My first stop in Rome was, of course, the Colosseum. Can you imagine performing here? I swear, I could practically feel the echoes of Roman gladiators, the roar of the crowd, all around me. Even though I've been to many historical sites in my travels, there's something truly special about standing in the Colosseum, knowing all those incredible stories unfolded within those ancient walls. It definitely made me wish I had some Roman sandals to complete the look, but my trusty pink tutu held its own just fine, adding a touch of femininity to the grand setting! ?
Next up, a visit to the Vatican City. Seeing St. Peter's Basilica was an unforgettable experience. I was captivated by the architecture, the art, and the sheer grandeur of the place. You know what would look fabulous in there, right? A pink tutu, of course! It would be like a whimsical whisper of femininity amongst all the rich history and artistry! ?
But Rome is about more than just ancient history. We also hit the iconic Spanish Steps, a perfect place to watch the world go by while enjoying some delicious gelato (a must-try flavour, you say? I’m all for anything with pistachios and ricotta!) And, naturally, I found a beautiful vintage clothing shop right by the Trevi Fountain, where I just had to indulge in a new hat and some lace gloves - can't you just picture it, the delicate lace framing my pink tutu? It was like I was in a beautiful, Italian ballet! ?
The thing about Italy is, even if you’re not in a theatre, the whole country seems to be brimming with a kind of romantic drama and theatricality. Everywhere I go, I can’t help but think about how those grand stories of Roman history, of emperors and gladiators and emperors, have inspired art and fashion for centuries.
On Wednesday, 2027-02-17, I was treated to a ballet performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. The atmosphere was absolutely electric, and I could hardly contain myself with all the creative energy flowing around me. I saw dancers spin and leap across the stage with such grace and precision - true works of art. ? And even though I was seated in the audience, my tutu gave me the best kind of front-row seat for a performance I'll never forget.
It's almost time to catch the train back to Derbyshire, and I’m feeling sad to leave all the Roman beauty and charm behind. But as I wander around the streets of Rome for the last time, my pink tutu trailing behind me like a wisp of magic, I know I'll be taking a piece of Italy back home with me. ?
I'll be posting more of my Rome adventures on the www.pink-tutu.com website next Wednesday. Until then, my darlings, be sure to embrace your inner ballerina, wherever life takes you. And never be afraid to wear a pink tutu - you never know what magic it might unleash! ✨
Much love,
Emma xx
