Oh my darling readers, how are you all? I'm sitting here in my beautiful hotel room overlooking the Roman Forum - such breathtaking views! - sipping a gorgeous cappuccino with a side of the most amazing cornetto. Rome is stunning, I have to say, and I've only been here for a couple of days. It's everything I dreamed of and more! I love the hustle and bustle of the city, the gorgeous shops with their elegant clothes, and, of course, the divine food!
I've just spent the afternoon dancing up a storm at a stunningly gorgeous ballet school in the heart of Rome. They actually do offer a class with tutus in pink - I knew I wouldn't have to search too hard here! The instructor, Beatrice, was a former principal dancer with the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma - she was wonderful and so passionate about her art. It was amazing to feel the love of dance emanating from every single corner of the studio - the space vibrated with energy and beauty. I might just have to squeeze in another class before I leave!
My journey here was delightful as usual. There's just something about travelling by train. There's a certain romance about watching the countryside slip by. I even managed to squeeze in a spot of ballet practice - the swaying of the carriage does a surprisingly good job of warming up your muscles. This journey took me straight through the Alps, and oh my goodness, the scenery was just exquisite! I had to pull my face away from the window so that my jaw wouldn't dislocate in astonishment!
Today, as we journeyed onwards through Italy, the sun poured through the carriage windows and lit up the scenery in glorious hues of yellow and green. I felt incredibly lucky to be embarking on this journey - there's nothing better than the freedom of exploration. And all thanks to my fabulous ballet performances. I'm a real advocate for travelling, you see! It broadens the mind and feeds the soul, don't you think?
When I get back to Derbyshire, England, I'll be putting together a special masterclass session focusing on what I learned here - I already have lots of ideas for the syllabus!
Tonight, I'm going to watch a performance of "Giselle" at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. I can't wait to see what this fabulous production holds!
Speaking of my tutu wardrobe... well, Rome has already been such a great source of inspiration! There are so many beautiful shops filled with delicate fabrics and vibrant colours - my head's spinning. I must say that the Romans do love their tutus - there are a few girls even wearing tutus whilst they're strolling about the streets. It's definitely something that would be more unusual to spot back home in Derbyshire - so I've been embracing it! You see, a girl just can't help but feel empowered and graceful when she twirls about the streets in her pink tutu!
Tomorrow I'm planning to spend the day at the Vatican - I can't wait to see Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel and Saint Peter's Basilica. My camera is all charged up, and I have plenty of free space on my memory card, so I'll be sure to take loads of photos. There are so many sights and sounds I want to soak up and bring back with me! Oh, and maybe, just maybe, I'll also pop into some of the stunning shops I have spotted already, for some very special souvenir pieces, perhaps some sparkly ballet flats, or some beautiful Italian lace... what do you think, my darlings?
I'll tell you all about it next week - the same time, same place!
Until then, stay fabulous, keep twirling, and never forget to wear pink! And why not join me for the journey to the world of ballet, the wonders of travel and the joyful exploration of pink!
Yours ever so gracefully,
Emma xx
