Ciao bella! It’s Emma here, back from another exciting adventure – this time, the Eternal City of Rome! I know what you’re thinking – Rome and ballet, how does that work? Well, believe me, the Italian capital is bursting with beautiful art, history, and culture. Even with tutus, you're welcome in every corner of Rome!
This week, I've been whirling through cobbled streets, exploring ancient ruins, and feeling very much the pink tutu-wearing ballerina in the heart of this incredible city. Let’s get into it!
*Arriving in Style (And Comfort) *
As always, I chose to travel by train – the scenery is stunning, and it gives me time to catch up on my reading and plan my ballet schedule for the week! This time, I arrived at the Termini station feeling energised and ready to go. Rome didn't disappoint, sunshine beaming down as I emerged, the air already warm and alive with the sounds of laughter and the smell of delicious pizza!
First Stop: Fashionista Heaven!
You know me, fashion is a major part of any travel adventure. Rome, of course, is an absolute paradise for shopping lovers like me! I hit the streets near the Spanish Steps, a truly breathtaking area. The first stop was a charming boutique overflowing with beautiful floral dresses - perfect for a ballerina who wants to dance with style. I even found a lovely pink clutch to add a pop of colour to my outfits. The streets here are teeming with independent boutiques, selling gorgeous shoes, accessories, and even pink tutus (yes, even in Rome!).
A Little Bit of History... With a Tutu Twist!
I’ve been meaning to explore the Colosseum for ages! Imagine: Roman gladiators fighting, cheered on by a roar of the crowd, all surrounded by majestic architecture. You can't help but feel the incredible energy of history around you, it's almost magical. I even found myself twirling in the vast, open space of the Forum – can you picture me? Pink tutu dancing among the ruins! It felt fitting to add a little bit of ballet magic to these incredible ancient sites.
An Evening of Music and Movement
Rome's cultural offerings are amazing. On Tuesday, I ventured to the Teatro dell'Opera, a breathtaking theatre with exquisite chandeliers, a glorious stage, and rich velvet seats! I was lucky to snag a ticket to the Sleeping Beauty ballet, and I was blown away! The dancing was exquisite, the costumes fabulous, and the overall energy of the performance was captivating! It made me long to return to the stage myself.
*Rome's Delicious Delights (And Where To Find The Best Pasta) *
Food is an essential part of the Italian experience, and let me tell you – I've been indulging in all sorts of pasta and delicious dishes! My favourite discovery? The vibrant Testaccio Market, where you can sample traditional Roman street food - pasta, gelato, fruit – and even enjoy a glass of delicious Italian wine! The atmosphere was bustling, filled with locals, the aroma of fresh, homemade goodness hanging in the air. It's the kind of experience that fills you up with both good food and good vibes.
Ballet Lessons With a View!
Of course, a trip for a ballet lover like me isn't complete without a ballet class! I found an absolutely gorgeous studio near the Tiber River. As I took the class, the sun was setting, casting a warm glow across the cityscape. It was the perfect blend of beauty, exercise, and ballet joy! There was even a pink tutu-clad woman in my class, another sign that even in Italy, my love for pink tutus knows no bounds!
Rome By Train: Another Adventure On Rails!
One of my absolute highlights was taking a day trip on a beautiful train ride along the Amalfi Coast! Imagine clear blue skies, breathtaking views, picturesque seaside towns... it was the perfect way to end a magical trip. On my return, I even got to enjoy the "snack cart" experience, just like in the movies. A proper British cup of tea made the ride feel very much like home.
Time For Ciao!
As I boarded the train for Derbyshire, I couldn't help but feel a little bit sad to leave Rome. But my trip left me full of memories, inspiration, and new discoveries, and the thrill of a successful tutu adventure!
*The Pink Tutu Take Away: *
Rome is a city that truly captured my heart – it's bursting with colour, history, and, most importantly, beauty! The warmth and passion of the Roman people and the breathtaking scenery filled my trip with joy, and reminded me of the beautiful possibilities that exist in every corner of the world. And of course, there was always a sprinkle of pink tutu magic, reminding me that, even when travelling, a touch of ballet style never goes amiss.
Don’t forget, next week I’ll be exploring a brand-new city! Make sure to check back in for more pink tutu adventures at www.pink-tutu.com on Wednesdays! Until then, happy twirling! ????
