Ciao, darlings! It’s Emma from Derbyshire, back with you for another fabulous Wednesday on Pink-Tutu.com, fresh from a week in the Eternal City!
This trip, just like my vibrant pink tutu, was bursting with colour and magic. From the iconic Colosseum to the breathtaking Trevi Fountain, Rome stole my heart, and I think it might have stolen my credit card too! ? But hey, a girl's gotta treat herself!
This week's #PinkTutuRome adventures started on a Thursday, right after my last performance at the Peak District Theatre. It wouldn't be a proper Emma trip without some railway romance. I love hopping aboard those shiny, new train carriages and watching the countryside speed by! I was practically vibrating with excitement, a vision in pink and frills as I nestled into my first-class seat, feeling like a fairytale princess ready to conquer Rome!
The Coliseum: Where History Meets Haute Couture
On Friday, we arrived in the heart of Rome! As I emerged from Termini Station, the city embraced me like a warm hug. We checked into our charming hotel in the Trastevere district – such a picturesque labyrinth of cobblestone streets, bursting with shops and cafes!
Rome, you’re so fashionable! The streets are an explosion of colour and texture - I mean, what other city boasts such incredible street style, complete with vibrant murals, stunning architecture, and people wearing outfits that rival my tutu ensembles? ? It was straight from a fashion magazine, and I was right there, a pink-tutu-clad, balletic beauty ready to capture it all!
The Coliseum, it's incredible! It was huge, with imposing walls and the faint echoes of gladiatorial cheers whispering in the breeze. And let's be honest, those ancient Romans had some serious style. Think togas! And what is a toga if not a Roman version of my glorious tutu? It's like a universal statement of “I’m here, I’m glamorous, and I’m ready to strut!"
Fashion Shopping Therapy: Roman Style
Who else could resist an afternoon of serious shoe shopping in the Spanish Steps area? Honestly, I went a little overboard, adding several pairs of those cute gladiator sandals to my wardrobe. Can you blame a girl for embracing the Roman fashion scene? I paired those new gladiators with a sunshine yellow tunic - so much sunshine yellow in my wardrobe this week, it's practically like the Italian sun!
I also treated myself to a beautiful handcrafted, rose-patterned purse and some decadent leather goods from a tiny, independent artisan shop in Trastevere - those little independent shops are pure magic!
Ballet Under the Stars
On Saturday evening, the air hummed with anticipation! That night, the famous Teatro dell’Opera di Roma was putting on "Giselle"! This legendary ballet is one of my all-time favorites. It's romantic, heartbreaking, and utterly captivating! I almost burst with pride watching the dancers in their intricate tutus as they danced a story of love, loss, and betrayal, their feet gliding effortlessly across the stage. Seeing these incredibly talented performers reminded me that dance, with its graceful movements and its powerful expression, is a universal language that transcends borders and cultures.
I've been indulging in my love for ballet performances while in Rome! After Giselle, we watched a show at the Teatro Argentina. The audience's enthusiastic applause at the end of the show was an explosion of excitement and joy! I have such a profound respect for the dedication of ballet dancers. Each step, each graceful arabesque is a masterpiece.
La Dolce Vita with Pink Tutu Flavour
And what is a trip to Rome without indulging in la dolce vita, darlings?! From slurping down the most decadent gelato, a flavour each day, to trying the best pasta dishes you can imagine (I love anything with a good dollop of pesto!).
I have even managed to slip into a pink tutu and perform a street ballet routine on one of those warm balmy evenings, with a soundtrack of opera tunes echoing in the streets. A few surprised onlookers joined me as I pirouetted across the cobblestones, twirling a tutu in the city lights of Rome. They loved the little performance and I think my pink tutu is helping me in spreading the tutu love all over Rome. Maybe by next year everyone will be wearing one - a vision of pure joy and colour!
The Colosseum is lit up in an array of colour each night and I have spent every evening admiring the incredible architectural masterpiece as we strolled the nearby streets.
The sun sets slowly here in Rome, bathing the city in soft oranges and pinks that perfectly complement my pink tutus.
Onwards to the Pink Tutu Pantheon!
The city itself felt almost like a ballerina, dancing a story in stone, history, and passionate, life-loving people.
I could easily get lost in these ancient city streets forever. It was a truly magical journey filled with culture, fashion, delicious food and, of course, a touch of pink tutu magic.
So darlings, keep on dancing!
Next Wednesday, I will share my experiences at the magnificent Pantheon, another beautiful architectural marvel that took my breath away! And it may even give the Colosseum a run for its money in the grandeur stakes.
Until then,
Stay bright, stay colourful, and remember, every day is a chance to embrace your inner tutu princess!
Ciao!
Emma xx
