Ciao Bella! It's Emma from Pink Tutu, and this week I'm bringing you all the glitz, glam, and tutus from my recent trip to Rome! I’ve always wanted to visit this incredible city, a place steeped in history and beauty, and it truly lived up to all my expectations – and then some!
This week’s post is extra special as it marks my 1691st blog post, a milestone I’m super proud of! I never thought I'd be able to share my love of pink, tutus, and travel with so many lovely people, and I can’t thank you all enough for your support!
I started this blog to spread a little bit of magic and joy, and to inspire others to wear their tutus with confidence. After all, a pink tutu can make you feel like a princess, even in the middle of Rome!
Now, onto Rome! We landed in Rome on a beautiful Tuesday, and the first thing that struck me was the air – so much richer and warmer than in Derbyshire. The vibrant streets buzzed with energy, and it felt like stepping straight into a Fellini film!
As you know, I adore exploring a city by train, and Rome didn't disappoint. The trains are a marvel of efficient transportation, so easy to navigate even for a first-time traveller. I managed to get a glimpse of the majestic Roman Colosseum and the ancient Baths of Caracalla as we sped by – pure magic!
The first stop on my Rome adventure was the stunning Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, home to some of the world's most exquisite opera and ballet performances. Let me tell you, stepping into that grand building is an experience in itself. It's just dripping with history and glamour!
Of course, I had to attend a performance. This week, it was a captivating rendition of “Swan Lake” by the Teatro dell’Opera ballet company. It was everything I dreamed of: stunning costumes, exquisite choreography, and dancers who moved with such grace and fluidity. I sat there, mesmerized, totally captivated. It was truly a night to remember!
After the show, my travel companions and I treated ourselves to a delicious traditional Italian dinner at a restaurant near the Opera House. It was like something out of a movie, with twinkling lights, romantic music, and authentic Italian dishes that made me want to cry tears of pure joy!
But Rome isn't just about ancient history and opera. We explored the charming narrow streets of Trastevere, getting lost in the vibrant markets and art galleries, where we found beautiful artisan ceramics and colourful scarves. I also picked up some beautiful ballet-inspired earrings – a must-have for any tutu-wearing traveller!
For a bit of sunshine and fresh air, we took a leisurely stroll along the Tiber River. I even managed to sneak in a mini-ballet practice session by the riverside! Thankfully, the people passing by were so wonderfully supportive. It's moments like that when I feel so grateful to be on this journey of spreading tutu-joy!
One of the things I love most about travelling is the opportunity to indulge my inner shopaholic! Now, Rome is a city that knows how to satisfy a fashionista. We wandered through luxury boutiques and charming little shops, picking up gorgeous leather bags, silk scarves, and a few very glamorous pairs of heels.
Of course, I couldn't leave Rome without a few pink tutus. There were so many beautiful options, and I had to bring back a few new ones to share with my lovely readers!
On the last night in Rome, we treated ourselves to a fantastic street performance. There was a troupe of street dancers, and they put on a phenomenal show, with elements of ballet, hip-hop, and breakdance all woven together. It was truly incredible, a testament to the artistry and talent that exists in this wonderful city.
As my trip to Rome drew to a close, I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of sadness. I loved the vibrancy, the warmth, and the beauty of this incredible city. And let’s be honest, it never hurts to indulge in some delicious pasta and a good gelato!
But I’m also excited about what's coming next on this Pink Tutu adventure! I've already started planning my next big trip, and I’m hoping to share even more exciting travel stories with you soon. And, as always, I can't wait to share more tutu inspiration, and encourage you all to find your own inner princess, wherever you are!

Pink Tutu Rome: The essentials
- Where I stayed: Hotel Locanda San Sebastiano. A charming little hotel, perfectly located near the Roman Forum and Trevi Fountain. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.
- Where to dine: Restaurant “Le Coq” – This charming Italian restaurant near the Colosseum offers some of the best food I had in Rome. Their pasta is heavenly.
- Things to do:
- The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma is an absolute must-visit. See a ballet, a concert, or even just take a tour of this magnificent building.
- Trastevere is a charming neighbourhood filled with small shops and artisan stalls. It’s also the perfect place to grab some delicious gelato and just wander around!
- The Colosseum is an iconic Roman landmark that is sure to leave you speechless. I recommend buying your tickets in advance, as it's a very popular attraction.
- Shopping tips: Look out for vintage and secondhand shops, especially in Trastevere. You can find incredible deals on everything from shoes and accessories to clothing and home decor.
- My top tips for travelling to Rome:
- Pack light and wear comfy shoes! You will be doing a lot of walking, so comfortable footwear is a must!
- Learn a few basic Italian phrases. You will be surprised at how much they help when interacting with locals!
- Do your research in advance to make the most of your trip. I recommend finding out about any events, festivals, or exhibitions happening during your visit.
