#PinkTutuRome: Rome, Sweet Rome, Oh What a Week!

Post Number 1706: Wednesday, 2028-02-16

Ciao Bella! This week's blog is from Rome, a city I've dreamed of visiting since I was a little girl. It's like stepping straight into a romantic novel. I mean, imagine my delight when I saw a street corner cafe with the cutest pink awning imaginable. You'd think I had just spotted the last ticket to a premiere performance of Giselle, honestly!

Rome hasn't disappointed one bit. It's got a kind of captivating energy that makes your heart race. From the grand Roman Forum and Colosseum to the charming narrow streets and cobblestone alleyways, it feels like stepping back in time and yet is pulsing with the modern, cosmopolitan heartbeat of this vibrant city.

But I’m getting ahead of myself, you lot! First, let’s talk about the journey! A train journey, of course! Who doesn’t love a good train journey, especially a European one? My latest performance for the Ballet Theatre in Derby gave me just the funds I needed for this adventure and my beautiful tutu from Miss Poppy’s Shop in Bakewell will certainly be seen. Oh yes, it is going to be seen! A delicate pink chiffon, with layers and layers, that just swirls and swishes perfectly when I'm twirling. You can’t get much more 'me' than that!

And the train ride, darling, oh the train ride! It was a seamless, picturesque journey, right out of a classic film! The Italian countryside unfurled like a tapestry, each hilltop village looking more like a charming oil painting than reality!

We finally pulled into Rome’s Termini station. The air buzzed with excitement as the crowd surged forth, like a wave, carrying a wave of chattering in a language I still only vaguely understand, but it's one I feel I am beginning to learn! So much passion, so much life in each syllable, and their voices!

The Pink Tutu Tourist

My little suitcase is overflowing with pink clothes. Honestly, even when I don’t know the location, you just know a little pink goes a long way and brightens everyone's day, don't you think? Now, in this glorious city, it's truly living its best life! I love pairing my tutu with vintage scarves, wide-brimmed straw hats and comfy ballet shoes. It’s not practical I'll grant you, but when has fashion ever been just practical?! A tutu needs a little drama!

Even on my trip to the Trevi Fountain, a place absolutely brimming with history, the other tourists seemed captivated by the little burst of pink that came their way. I, of course, had a few coins ready to make a wish for future travel and exciting ballet shows! It seems fitting, seeing how much Roman history, is interwoven with dance, theatre, and artistry! I spent what felt like hours just basking in its grandeur. You'd think I was waiting to enter the Metropolitan Opera!

Speaking of opera, I just couldn’t wait to soak up some local culture, so off to the opera house I went! You know I couldn't pass up the opportunity to catch a performance of Puccini's "La Boheme", my absolute favorite! The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma has this timeless elegance to it that takes your breath away. It feels so special, like you’re part of something grand! The voices, the emotions, the passion – I felt transported to another world! And while I loved the exquisite music, there's always room for more ballet! I can't wait for my own performances on the stages of Rome. Maybe the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma itself will be on my dance schedule soon. Wouldn't that be divine!

But Rome is more than just monuments and art, darling! Let's talk food! I spent what seemed like hours wandering through Trastevere. That's the name of a neighborhood in Rome - you can never have too many neighborhoods named for food, you know?! It felt so authentic, with its little trattorias tucked away, all with little tables spilling onto cobblestone streets. Oh! The smell of freshly baked bread and roasted meat just tickled my nose! It’s hard to go past a creamy, delicious gelato on a summer afternoon in Rome! Oh, what a delight.

Ballet Dreams and Street Performances

For my first visit to Rome, the main focus was taking in the beauty and history that’s simply overflowing from every corner of the city. I couldn’t be here and not spend some time walking along the Via Condotti. Honestly, you all have to put it on your itinerary. It's lined with high-end boutiques. For any ballet lover, you can almost feel the elegance of “La Bayadère" and “Swan Lake" wafted around! It's impossible to be near this street, filled with such glamour, and not feel a thrill of excitement!

Even my trips to the Vatican Museum weren’t immune to the joy of dancing! You can imagine my shock (or not, it’s a known fact I like to live life out loud) when, while enjoying the beautiful, intricate architecture, I spontaneously decided to twirl my tutu amongst the other tourists. Why wouldn’t you, with a stage and an audience so willing? It made for a rather unique perspective, and I hope, for a few fun photos for my blog and Instagram.

Rome's spirit has captivated my heart. I could see myself returning to this lovely city again and again. In fact, there's this small part of me that wants to set up a studio in Rome and share the magic of dance with local children! You never know what may bloom!

After all, the message is clear: Every day should be a day filled with love, a day to embrace the beauty in the world around you, a day to let yourself dance – a day where your own inner spirit blossoms and inspires you!

Ciao for now. Until next Wednesday’s blog, be sure to wear your pink tutu and stay fabulous, dear friends!
