Hello my lovely tutu-wearing lovelies! It’s your favourite pink-clad ballerina blogger, Emma, checking in from the eternal city – Rome! I'm bursting with excitement, because this week marks the beginning of my Roman adventure. Honestly, I can barely contain my enthusiasm! It feels like I’ve been dreaming of this trip for ages, and I finally got the chance to take a train journey here, which is, of course, my preferred mode of travel (sorry, planes, but you can't compete with a train trip and a good book).
I’m going to share everything with you over the coming weeks. But let me start by saying this: Rome is absolutely beautiful. Think cobbled streets lined with terracotta buildings, ancient ruins peeking out from every corner, charming trattorias bursting with the scent of fresh pasta and aromatic coffee wafting from every cafe. Oh, and did I mention the gelato? Seriously, you wouldn’t believe how delicious it is! I’m going to dedicate an entire blog post just to gelato soon, I promise.
But this week, my focus is on the art form that makes my heart sing: Ballet!
Rome’s Ballet Scene: A Choreographer’s Dream
You know how much I adore ballet, right? Well, Rome doesn’t disappoint! They’ve got the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma here, and let me tell you, it’s truly a masterpiece of architecture, both inside and out. They put on some stunning performances, from classics like Swan Lake and Giselle, to modern ballets pushing boundaries with their choreography. And speaking of choreography, there's something about the energy in the city that gets me feeling super creative. Every cobblestone feels like a stage, and I find myself picturing dancers gracefully navigating the squares and fountains.
Just this past weekend, I went to a beautiful performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, it was a contemporary ballet called ‘L’Altro Lato della Luna’. Oh my goodness, I can’t describe how enchanting it was. Imagine graceful ballerinas soaring through the air, their tutus shimmering under the spotlight, accompanied by an orchestra that brought the whole piece to life. It was absolute magic.
Fashion in the Eternal City:
Now, let’s talk fashion! What's a trip to Italy without indulging in some fabulous fashion finds, right? I have already visited several independent boutiques in Trastevere, and let me tell you, I am completely smitten. The craftsmanship is simply incredible! Imagine delicately stitched silk garments in a stunning array of colours, hand-painted shoes, and those iconic Italian leather bags – just divine! Of course, I had to treat myself to a new pair of ballet flats, this time in a lovely rose gold hue – they match my new pink silk scarf, which I couldn’t resist purchasing!
Street Style Inspiration:
Rome's streets are bursting with unique fashion. I see beautiful men in sharp suits, ladies in colourful dresses with perfectly styled scarves and hair, and everyone is dripping with effortless style. It’s a fashion enthusiast’s dream!
And guess what? I spotted a group of street dancers practicing on the steps of a historical building this morning. I swear, there was even a ballerina twirling in a bright pink tutu (although I'm sure she’ll agree, mine's more glamorous!). It felt so inspirational watching them dance with such freedom, expressing themselves through their moves.
Let’s Talk Food (and Gelato):
Let's be real, no trip to Rome is complete without a culinary adventure. From fresh pasta with melt-in-your-mouth sauces to succulent pizzas with crusts that crackle with delight, the food here is truly incredible. But you know what truly steals the show? The Gelato!
Think creamy concoctions bursting with delicious flavors: ricotta with figs, pistachio with a drizzle of honey, lemon with berries, and oh, my god, the chocolate! The choices are endless, and I can't wait to try them all.

My dears, there’s so much more I want to tell you about. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to delve into more about the fascinating history and hidden gems of this enchanting city. From exploring the Colosseum and the Pantheon to strolling through the stunning gardens and throwing a coin in the Trevi Fountain, we'll do it all.
And I wouldn't dream of neglecting you on my culinary journey! I promise to tell you all about the delicious restaurants and hidden trattorias I'll stumble upon. Oh, and there’s one restaurant in Trastevere called “Il Cuoco Ballerino” (the Dancing Chef) that’s known for having ballet-inspired dishes – I’ve got to go check it out!
