Ciao, darlings! It’s Emma here, and guess where I am? Yep, you guessed it! It’s the Eternal City, the magnificent Rome! I’m twirling with joy, soaking up the sunshine and the historical vibes in my latest pink tutu ensemble. This week's #PinkTutuRome adventure has been all about ancient wonders, breathtaking views, and of course, my insatiable love for fashion!
So, how did I get here? Well, last Friday, after a delightful performance with my troupe at the Derby Playhouse (a rather dashing black swan, you know) I boarded a shiny red train from Derbyshire. I'm always thrilled by the journey, the passing landscapes whizzing by, the comfy carriage, the rhythmic clickety-clack of the train… it truly sets the mood for a delightful adventure!
Now, I landed in Rome on a balmy Saturday morning. After a quick coffee at the cutest café with a perfectly pink macaron (pink macarons are a must, you know!), I checked into my delightful little hotel in the heart of the city. A charming boutique place, you see, with gorgeous vintage furniture and oh-so-perfectly decorated in pink and lilac hues – pure pink tutu heaven!
Day 1: Pantheon & Roman GloryMonday morning found me ready for a day of sightseeing, wearing a delicate tulle tutu over a classic black midi-skirt – I’m all about keeping things classic, you know? First up: the majestic Pantheon. This incredible ancient structure blew me away with its grandeur. I felt like I’d stepped back in time! Of course, I did my best twirls for a few photos, adding a touch of contemporary ballerina magic to the ancient architecture – everyone was smiling!
Later, I visited the Roman Forum and Colosseum. The sheer scale of these monuments is incredible! They transported me to another world, with echoes of gladiators and emperors resonating in my imagination. And, of course, no Roman adventure would be complete without indulging in a scoop (or two!) of the most amazing gelato, especially the flavours inspired by Roman classics – they’re to die for!
Day 2: Trevi Fountain and Pink FashionTuesday was all about indulging in the glamour of Rome! My outfit was a vibrant coral-hued tulle skirt layered over a vintage white blouse, adorned with a bejeweled pink tutu belt, you see. After a delectable breakfast of coffee and freshly baked cornetti (it’s what Italian mornings are all about), I headed for the iconic Trevi Fountain. Just a little something magical happens when you throw a coin over your shoulder, darling, for good luck!
In the afternoon, I took advantage of Rome's vibrant fashion scene. My mission: find the perfect pink accessory for the week. After wandering around some exquisite shops, I found it – a beautiful rose gold headband adorned with sparkling pink crystals, just the touch of glamour my outfit needed! I had a delicious cappuccino (essential fuel, you know!) with some scrumptious pastries while enjoying the view – pure fashionista heaven.
Day 3: Galleria Borghese and Ballet InspirationWednesday dawned, bringing a little hint of artistic inspiration. Today, I felt the need to channel the ballerinas of the world in a flowing, soft pink, layered tutu – the ultimate romantic ballet style. A walk to the Galleria Borghese – with a stop for some gorgeous Roman espresso – led me to masterpieces by Bernini and Caravaggio, all with stunning stories. I must confess, I find myself constantly inspired by their dramatic forms and poses, translating that into my own movements and costumes. It truly makes my ballet heart sing!
Later in the day, I made my way to the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma for a spectacular ballet performance. Oh, the magic! "Giselle," in all its glory, swept me away. The incredible dancing, the emotion, the stories they conveyed… all felt utterly spellbinding. I was transfixed!
Day 4: The City’s MagicThursday dawned in Rome, brimming with a touch of pink Parisian chic, in a classic black dress paired with a blush-hued tutu, darling. I am, of course, always about a perfect blend of elegance and twirling power! My morning started with a leisurely breakfast at a tiny trattoria near the Colosseum. The perfect aroma of freshly brewed coffee and warm pastry set the stage for a day of exploration!
This afternoon I walked the streets of Trastevere – charming and full of artisan shops! This lovely neighbourhood in Rome is such a breath of fresh air – it reminds me of all things authentic and unique. Of course, no Italian adventure would be complete without trying some authentic Roman pasta - my favourite is Cacio e Pepe – simple yet oh-so-delicious!
Day 5: Farewell to Rome, Hello to InspirationOn Friday morning, it was time to bid farewell to Rome, but not before indulging in another divine espresso and enjoying one last twirl under the Italian sky. My time in Rome has truly inspired my next collection, featuring pink hues and flowing, tutu-inspired silhouettes. My heart, as you know, always leans towards delicate femininity, and this trip has solidified that!
Back on the train, the rhythmic clickety-clack reminds me that this adventure, like any performance, has a beginning and an end. I can't wait to share these experiences and my newfound creative inspiration with all of you, darlings!
My fellow pink tutu lovers, don't forget: the beauty of pink tutus is not only about fashion – it’s about expressing yourself freely, with confidence, and spreading a little bit of magic wherever you go!
Until next week, Emma xx
